Tangan Pengharapan again expands its outreach of children in disadvantaged areas who can’t go to school and enjoy nutritious meal. We just opened a new Feeding & Learning Center in Fotilo, Tumu & Villages, in North Amanatun and Lampuun village, Amanuban East, NTT.

We also will soon open a new center in Pelai Kemayo ham-let, West Kalimantan and a Learning Center in Tanggaba, Southwest Sumba.

Seeing there are still so many children who have not enjoy education in rural areas in Indonesia, we will strive to reach 1000 children again and we dream to help 5,000 children up to the end of 2015.

Tangan Pengharapan built the House of Micah - Children Rescue Home in Taehue hamlet, East Amanuban, ENT in November 2013 to help child victims of violence / sexual abuse, children with good academic achievement coming from poor families and orphans.

Last month we harvested corn with Telukh villagers in South Timor Tengah, ENT. They usually harvest corn once a year, but through Community Empowerment program, we train people to be able to harvest sweet corn every 3-4 months.

Tangan Pengharapan trains women and young people on knitting in Pepe and Kaliceret villages, Central Java as an empowerment program for wom-en and children. They produce bags, wallets, and shoes from their knitting that provide a very sizable proceeds to support their family needs.

Teachers who want to teach in rural areas is one of the main requirements of Tangan Pengharapan for its Feeding & Learning Center. Since 2014, we have sent teachers with S1 certificate to various remote areas: 12 teach-ers to East Amanuban, ENT, 2 teachers to West Kao, North Halmahera, 3 teachers to Merauke, Papua and 2 teachers to Weekaraba, West Sumba. Thus, there are more than 100 teachers who serve to educate children in rural areas in Indonesia. Tangan Pengharapan also awards scholarships to teachers who teach while studying for S1 degree.

Difficult terrain in Timor, ENT causes Tangan Pengharapan’s vehicle badly damaged, so we need to send another 4-WD commonly used to deliver groceries to all existing centers in Timor and to reach out and provide as-sistance to the most places.

Finally, we thank our partners for trusting us in building this nation to-gether. We pray may God always bless you in all His goodness and mercy.

Many Blessings,

Yoanes Kristianus (Jojo)

T he intense heat of sunlight on Lanpun hamlet, Pisan village, East Amanuban district this time felt different. The stu-

dents of Lanpun Inpres Elementary School did not leave the school building although it was their time to return to their homes.

Apparently they were waiting for Tangan Pengharapan’s nutrition feeding programs. Joy filled the room as the first grade to sixth grade students gathered in the classroom to enjoy nutritious food.

This is the partnership we’ve been expecting

It’s not just the big day party, but this is the first day of the opening of the FLC Lanpun directly integrated with the local Elemen-tary School. It was so special because it was a step for-ward in the partnership between the school and Tangan Pengharapan under the local government.Tangan Pengharapan made this break-through to give color in the world of educa-tion, especially primary education through school-based meal for education program. Not only in Lanpun, Tangan Pengharapan also cooperated with SD Inpres MAF in Tumu village in the district of North Amana-tun. This program is held after the teaching and learning activities. At the opening cere-mony, Tangan Pengharapan also distributed uniforms and bags for children. The involvement of parents through school committees in the program has increased, with the increasing of public understanding of the importance of self support so that progress can be achieved. What makes this opening special is because it is the first FLC in East Amanuban opened and directly integrated and school-based program so that fostering children can be more focused and it can reduce the poten-tial for conflict.

F ebruary 22-28, 2015 was a special mo-ment for Yayasan Tangan Pengharapan

since through this moment all coordina-tors and teachers gathered to hold an an-nual meeting. This year’s annual meeting discussed many important points to equip all coordinators and teachers so they are ready to be blessings wherever they are placed.

In this moment the coordinator gave a presentation of their respective regions, telling what they had done in their area, barriers and challenges experienced. Through these presentations all fellow coordinators are expected to be able to help each other to get the solution of any problems that arise in each region.

Debriefing is also given to the teachers attending this meeting. They were taught how to be a professional teacher and the way of teaching to prevent boredom among children in their area, especially in rural areas. This debriefing is important for the teachers since they are going to be sent to rural areas that are usually hard to access.

Solution given by Yayasan Tangan Peng-harapan through this event is not just talking just knowledge alone, but includes a variety of things. For their spiritual life, they are also equipped to become the servants of God who are ready to serve with all their heart. Through this spiritual equipping they are expected to under-stand that the profession they are doing is not just speaking as a lecturer in class-rooms, but also set an example to the children so that the children will not be smart only but also noble.

In this occasion, the coordinator through-out Indonesia also had the opportunity to see the projects YTP in NTT. One of the projects in the show is Vero cement Water tanks. An appropriate technol-ogy that can be used in dry areas. Vero cement Woter Tank is soluis for society NTT, this is all due to the extremely low rainfall in the area so that people need accurate solution to address the prob-lem of water shortage.

Ferrocement Water Tanks are used by people to collect rainwater. Through YTP and donators’ support, now in Kai Yayas-an Tangan Pengharapan has successfully introduced and gave solutions to the lo-cals in ENT.

Besides giving appropriate technology so-lutions, YTP also gave human resource de-velopment programs. One of the programs is the cultivation of plants and vegetables having ecocmic value. At this moment our leader Mr. Yoanes Kristianus and Mrs. Hen-ny Kristianus had an opportunity to harvest corns in one of the centers. Development and cultivation of economic crops thet becomes YTP project is not lim-ited to corn. Another example is the avoca-do, garlic, onion, chili and others. Yayasan Tangan Pengharapan hopes at least the people we help no longer buy vegetables again. Through this way they can boost the economy by selling what they plant, and it can increase their families’ income.Another project done by Yayasan Tangan Pengharapan is breeding animal, in this case is pig.

Yayasan Tangan Pengharapan gives pigs to the locals, in this case the children join-ing FLC. YTP aims to provide scholarships to children receiving the responsibility to take care of those pigs. We think the strat-egy adopted this time is good. Children get scholarship. they do not just only receive the pigs for sale, but they also were given the responsibility to take care of it. Chil-dren get double profit. They know how to breed pigs, be responsible, and will be proud that their school and goals can be achieved not merely from the parents but they also have to fight for these ideals.

We also visited some Centers of Yayasan Tangan Pengharapan. One point that we visited was the village in the Telukh, East Amanuban. The journey to this place is not easy, winding and steep. The cars we use are 2 Innova and 1 land rover. The car took us to the village bay. The trip home after visiting Telukh was a quite stressful experi-ence.

Rain fell, making the soil wet, causing the terrain more difficult to pass by. There was a moment, where two Innova trapped in the mud and could not pass. they repeat-edly tried to climb and climb, but always failed. In the end we used the sling on land rover.

Thanks to the Land Rover, we could pass the steep and slippery road. the slings we at-tached to the cars were able to help those cars continue our journey to the destination safely.

Land Rover is a car that is suitable for pass-ing through a difficult and steep path. The form is stout and paired with rope slings are paired. It will help when the car is stuck in difficult terrain.

Considering that many Yayasan Tangan Pengharapan’s Centers in Indonesia can only be reached through difficult and steep tough road, we still need more cars of this type in our centers to make our service to children effective.

It is our desire when we see the children in Indonesia become more hopeful and fully developed all over Indonesia.

elieving and trusting in sweet promises that were never proven, 99 families left

their homeland in Java and East Nusa Teng-gara and headed to the area in Ratahan, North Sulawesi. Their determination to im-prove their lives turned upside down.

It is deterioration that they actually expe-rience and feel. All their hopes and dreams are eroded by reality in front of their eyes. They can only be stunned to see the acres of land without any buildings provided for them. Disappointed and annoyed raged inwardly.

But they can’t say nothing, all is too late. Their desire to return to their hometown never comes true due to lack of funds. Fi-nally, in order to survive, they begin to work on land that originally they thought has no owner. And they must be willing to leave the land they had planted when the owner of the confiscated land. They just got an empty house without any facilities, including elec-tricity and water. The promise they would get some facilities remains a promise that never comes true. No land for cultivation. Only a small lawn left.

It is the same small lawn that become their hope to meet their daily needs.Nasaret is the name of one of the ham-lets in the area of Ratahan, North Su-lawesi, which became the destination of these migrants. They had to cultivate the small around the house, growing vegetables for their daily needs. The ab-sence of adequate infrastructure make this village became isolated. For that reason Yayasan Tangan Peng-harapan exists to help local communi-ties by providing lock brick molding ma-chine and agricultural seeds. Currently Tangan Pengharapan has started with feeding and learning center to help lo-cal children become the generation who know the truth and want to remain energetic and active in learning.

T hat morning while enjoying breakfast, Tangan Pengharapan’s team (Luther,

Ezra, and Jean) were visited by a gentle-man named Yunus with his daughter, Ode-lina. This man comes from Tliu village, Oeua, where he and his family are the only ones who still live in poverty while about 60 other families already “have a better life” with compensation that a house will be built for each family who convert into another way of life.

At the door of the house built there is a text that reads that the house belongs to a particular group. What a sad fact! Then the Tangan Pengharapan’s team be-gan to serve this man and give breakfast and drink. Then the team and the father and daughter took a picture together. And when one of the team members embraced him, unexpectedly this father wiped the tears from his eyes and began to cry.

Then the team called a woman who could speak Timor language and asked her to translate what the man was say-ing. “Why are you crying?” We asked. He replied, “So anguish.” Then we asked, “Why so anguish?” He replied, “I feel lonely, my eleven brothers have left me for about two years.”Mr. Yunus felt lonely. But he felt very comforted that there are people from Tangan Pengharapan who came to his home yesterday. Then the team began to read the Bible verse that says that God will never ever leave us.

We saw his faces, crying happy tears be-cause of the presence of Tangan Peng-harapan comforted him. Tangan Peng-harapan also has built a house and a stall for him and his family. After all Mr. Yunus and his family are also precious persons in the eyes of God. Al-though he is a poor villager, isolated, but he has the feelings and a heart that need our “hands” as an “extension” of the hand of God, touching and giving new hope for their lives in the Lord.
