GOLF CLASSIC SUCCESSFUL What a perfect day for golf! The Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce Golf CLassic was held Thursday, May 10th at Fairmont Golf Club. With approximately 27 teams, the Golf Classic was a huge success. Lunch was provided by Outback Steakhouse, beverages by R.A. Jeffreys and Pepsi Bottling Ventures. The hole-in-one vehicle sponsor was provided by Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC & Cadillac.

The winning team, with a score of 55, was Pine Crest Golf Club’s team consisting of Chris Jackson, Da-vid Lowry, Dewey Desse, and Ryan Bass. Second place, with a score of 59, was UNC-P consisting of Dick Christy and Jordan Sampson. Third place, with a score of 60, went to Commissioner Tom Taylor’s team, consisting of

Tom Taylor, Robert Lawson, Tom Lee, and Mark Smith. Most Accurate Drive #4 - Anthony Bailey, Closest to the Pin #8 - Ron Ouelette, and Closest to the Pin #15 - Wooodall Hilton.

The success of the tournament was due to our great sponsors, golfers, and Chamber volunteers. The tournament chair was Suzanne Abbott of Abbott Insur-ance Services. Other members of the committee were Maureen Metzger - Southeastern Health, Amy Ham-mond - Wesley Pines Retirement Home, Rose Avant - Rodan & Fields, and Martha Mahlke - Jimmy John’s of Lumberton. Tournament day volunteers were Suzanne Abbott, Amy Hammond, Martha Mahlke, Michele Smith, Bob Fisher, Alan Avant, and Nancy Johnson.
