DAY 1- BEGINNING

As the song begins to come to an end, BATMAN and ROBIN enter. Batman is working intently on a compact electrical device (a phone) while Robin is waving and jumping around excitedly behind him.

They reach the front. The music ends.

Batman makes himself comfortable onstage, still intently working on the device.

M.C.Hey everybody! Look who's here! It's Batman and Robin!

The M.C. motions for Robin to come on stage.

Batman looks up from his electrical device before giving it his undivided attention again. Robin continues to wave and smile at the children.

M.C. (CONT’D)Kids! You remember Batman and Robin. Some of our finest heroes here at HQ. Around here, Batman is the man with the plan! Whatcha working on, Bats? The device to change all devices?

Batman looks up at the audience.

BATMANIt's my latest invention. It's a tele-communicator that allows you to get in touch with your teammates with a push of a button.

ROBINHoly smokes, Batman. That sounds rad.

Batman puts the phone to the M.C.'s ear.

M.C.It's an iBat!

The MC pushes the button.

Batman proudly looks at the kids.

ROBINThat's super useful, Bats. We can call every hero within 100 yards because as we know heroes take action. Say it with me: HEROES TAKE ACTION.

M.C.Should we try to see if we can get in touch with anyone?

Crowd says: YEAH!

Wonder Woman rushes in.

M.C. (CONT’D)Looks like the iBat is a whopping success!

WONDER WOMAN(looks around, frazzled)

Oh, Hera!

Superman walks in, texting on his phone.

ROBINWonder Woman, what's going on?

WONDER WOMANI can't figure it out. I felt strangely compelled to come here and take action. But I've flown all over Metropolis and I can't figure out who needs help...

Robin and Batman share a successful look.

M.C. winks at the audience and points to the iBat.

WONDER WOMAN (CONT’D)(puzzled)

Maybe it has something to do with today's mission...

Batman's phone goes off.

BATMANThat's odd. I just received a message from Martian Manhunter, he says the clue is in the shoe.

WONDER WOMANI guess our next mission has something to do with shoes.

(MORE)

WONDER WOMAN (CONT’D)But that doesn't make any sense, does it?

Robin raises his eyebrow concerned, looking at Batman.

BATMANOf course! THE JOKER!

Batman hops up.

BATMAN (CONT’D)TO THE BATMOBILE!

Batman exits in a run.

The kids start waving their shoes around.

ROBINAnyone have any ideas?

WONDER WOMANThe Joker is definitely trying to tell us something.

M.C.Come on, kids we need your help!

SET-UP INSTRUCTIONS IN BOOK.

M.C. (CONT’D)Okay guys. It looks like today's mission is: HEROES STEP OUT ON FAITH! That's a good word, "faith" but a little hard to understand. Does anyone know what it means to have faith?

MC takes a few responses from the audience.

M.C. (CONT’D)Faith means believing in something even though you can't see it.

Kids should be seated and quiet again.

Superman looks up from his phone.

WONDER WOMANLike the state of my amazonian sisters. I don't always know they're okay but I feel it.

Robin ponders.

ROBINHoly smokes! I have faith too. Things happen everyday that I don't always understand or see, but I know they're real. Like when I turn around a Batman is gone. I have faith that he's off on a mission and that he's okay.

SUPERMANHe does that to me all the time so I'm right there with you, Robin.

M.C.Great thinking! Wonder Woman and Superman, your next mission is clear: HEROES STEP OUT ON FAITH! So are you ready?

ROBINI've got to find Batman!

Robin rushes away.

WONDER WOMANReady? I'm always ready. With my lasso of truth, villains don't stand a chance. Come on, Superman. We've got to catch up with Bats and take down the Joker!

Wonder Woman exits.

Superman doesn't immediately follow.

SUPERMANI don't know about this. Lois really needs me.

M.C.The world needs you too!

SUPERMANYou're right!

Superman exits.

M.C.You heard it, kids! Heroes don't just sit around and wait for their girlfriend or live in fear. Heroes step out on faith! Jesus stepped out on faith just like our heroes. You'll hear all about it soon enough. But first: let's see what our everyday heroes have to say about things they believe in but can't see.

END SCENE

6.

DAY 1- CLOSING

Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Robin come onstage.

Wonder Woman has her lasso.

Batman has a Bat-erang.

Robin has his fighting pole.

M.C.It's time for our Hero Mega-Challenge Simulator. As you know, we're all learning about heroes and it's time to practice our skills. Who's ready?

Robin picks a volunteer.

M.C. introduces the kid.

The MC holds up a permanent marker.

M.C. (CONT’D)I have in my hand a ultra-permanent utility marking device. This device is sure to come in handy during today's Mega-Challenge Simulator. I will ask a question about our ultimate hero and whichever one of you answer the question correctly wins the device. Are you ready?

They all nod.

M.C. (CONT’D)Okay. Here we go... Today's Bible hero went to ask someone to heal his servant, who did he ask for help?

WONDER WOMANGreen Lantern.

SUPERMANThe nice men in the Metropolis police force.

BATMANBatman.

ROBINDefinitely Batman.

KIDJesus.

M.C.And

(Insert Kid's Name)Wins the device!

Hand kid the device.

M.C. (CONT’D)All right, heroes. Today's Hero Mega-Challenge is this: A mad scientist has used his replicator ray gun to create 11 copies of an explosive device. I will give each of you the opportunity to study the original device before placing it in with the replications. You will have 30 seconds to find and disarm the real explosive.

Batman looks closely.

M.C. (CONT’D)Okay, the eggs in the bowls are raw eggs. I'm handing each of you a boiled egg.

He does.

M.C. (CONT’D)Take a minute and study the boiled egg. Before I mix it in with the others. When I give the signal, you'll need to sort through your bowl of eggs, find the boiled egg and peel it. <Kid's Name>, because you won the marking device you may use it to help you tell this egg apart from the others.

Help the kid if needed.

Examine. Mix around.

M.C. (CONT’D)On your mark. Get set. Go!

SUPERMANDon't worry, everyone! I've got this!

Superman pauses.

8.

SUPERMAN (CONT’D)Does anyone else hear the ticking...?

ROBINThere aren't any wires. Why aren't there any wires?

Wonder Woman looks closely at the bowl, stumped.

WONDER WOMANI'm lost.

BATMANI've got this!

Robin cheers Batman on as he dramatically treats the eggs like actual bombs.

The kid finds the right egg.

M.C.Great job! You got in there and worked hard even though you didn't know what was going to happen. But I had faith you could do it all along.

(to audience)And you know, I've noticed many of you acting on faith here today. You heroes are really stepping out on faith and making a difference in the lives of people around you.

BATMANHere are a list of reasons why I'm the best example of a hero who steps out on faith.

Batman hands the MC a long piece of paper.

M.C.It just says: "Because you're Batman"

BATMANExactly.

Robin tries to high-five Batman. He is left hanging.

Batman and Robin exit

M.C.Anyways, that reminds me of a song I'd like to sing.

10.

DAY 2 - BEGINNING

As the song comes to an end, Batman is almost to the stage. Batman is carrying a basket full of shoes.

M.C.Hey everyone! It's Batman. But he doesn't look so good.

The MC helps Batman with the basket. He puts them on the stage. Batman tries to make it to the stairs without falling out. He wipes his forehead.

M.C. (CONT’D)Is it shoe cleaning day in the Bat Cave? Is Alfred off today?

BATMANWell you know that yesterday we discovered that HEROES STEP OUT ON FAITH! Right?

Crowd responds "Right".

BATMAN (CONT’D)Robin's really taken it to heart. He's been stepping out on faith right and left! It's a good thing don't get me wrong but now he's trying to upgrade all of our hero boots.

Robin runs in with a pair of shoes in his hand.

BATMAN (CONT’D)Quickly! Hide them!

Robin makes it to the front.

ROBINHey everyone!

Robin is jumping in place.

M.C.What's the excitement about, Robin?

ROBINWell, I call these my Ultra-Master Faster Blasters! When filled with a high concentration of air, these things can make a hero really fly!

Wonder Woman and Superman walk in, casually talking.

11.

ROBIN (CONT’D)Imagine how much more crime Batman and I can fight if we could fly! It's a bird, it's a plane... no! It's Batman and his trusty sidekick Robin!

Superman furrows his eyebrows.

SUPERMANWait, that's my catch phrase.

BATMANI glide. I don't fly.

Robin and Superman begin a stare off.

Wonder Woman notices the basket of shoes and looks through them to find a pair of high heels.

WONDER WOMANThere they are! I've been looking for these all day.

(smiles)Big night tonight!

Batman furrows his eyebrows and stands.

BATMANNo one's going out tonight. There's no time. Right, Superman?

Robin and Superman finish their stare off.

SUPERMANRight! We have to uncover today's mission! Now step away from the footwear and help me out, please.

Batman takes the heels from Wonder Woman and she rolls her eyes at him.

SUPERMAN (CONT’D)Now look around closely. Do you see anything unusual?

Kids point out rope (or if needed, the MC)

SUPERMAN (CONT’D)Kids, I think you're on to something. Batman, Wonder Woman- quick, grab a rope!

BATMANI don't know, looks like Wonder Woman just got her nails done.

WONDER WOMANI don't need this.

Wonder Woman sits on the stage.

SUPERMANBats?

Batman looks at Wonder Woman and sits on the other side of the stage.

BATMANI'm not doing anything until Wonder Woman tells me who her date is.

SUPERMANRobin?

He looks around but Robin is working intently on the shoes.

SUPERMAN (CONT’D)Okay, kids. I'm going to need your help!

INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOOK

SUPERMAN (CONT’D)We've figured it out!

M.C.Today's mission is: HEROES SAVE THE DAY! Sounds like a tall order, guys. Are you up for it?

Wonder Woman stands up.

WONDER WOMANIf it'll stop Batman from questioning me, then I'm in.

Batman stands as well.

BATMANI tracked the Joker down to the carnival in downtown Gotham.

SUPERMANLet's go, gang.

All three of them run out. Robin looks up and follows, shoes in hand.

M.C.Kids, you have the same mission: HEROES SAVE THE DAY! Our ultimate hero saved the day for thousands of people. You'll hear all about it. But first, let's see what our everyday heroes have to say about things that are hard for them to share.

END SCENE

14.

DAY 2 - CLOSING

As the song ends all the heroes come up to the front.

M.C.All right, heroes! It's time once again for the Hero Mega-Challenge Simulator. Who's ready to practice another hero skill?

Kids raise their hands. MC and/or Robin pick a kid from the audience.

MC introduces the kid.

M.C. (CONT’D)<INSERT KID'S NAME>, Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Robin, I have in my hand a prize. I will ask a question about today's Bible story and whichever one of you answers the question correctly wins the prize. Are you ready?

Everyone nods.

SUPERMANReady for action!

M.C.Okay. Here we go. In today's Bible story, a hero shared something that Jesus used to save the day. What did the young boy share?

BATMANHis bat mobile!

SUPERMANAccess to his Fortress of Solitude.

BATMANHis favorite Bat-o-rang.

Robin jumps up and down.

ROBINThe secret to Batman's disappearing act!

WONDER WOMANMy Lasso of Truth!

KIDHis lunch!

MC hands the prize to the kid.

16.

DAY 3- OPENING

M.C. approaches the front in a Flash shirt.

M.C.Hey everybody! It's another great day for VBS.

He looks around.

M.C. (CONT’D)Huh. That's odd. Where are our favorite superheroes this morning?

Batman comes out of the left Baptistry room labeled: Interrogation Room. With files in his hand.

BATMANNo. No. NO!

Batman sits at his table and drops the files down, holding his face.

M.C. looks at the audience before going on stage.

M.C.Everything okay, Bats? Did the mission to defeat the Joker go wrong?

Batman looks at him.

BATMANThe Joker? No! I have a bigger nemesis now and he's a sly one.

M.C. picks up some of the folders and begins to read the names.

M.C.Green Latern... Martian Manhunter... Shazam?!

(pauses)So your nemesis is...?

BATMANEvery man that Wonder Woman could have possibly gone on a date with. Correct.

Robin runs in. He is armed with his Bo Staff.

17.

ROBINBats! I've got a location on Green Arrow. There's a 86% compatibility match between him and Wonder Woman!

Batman hops up.

M.C.Robin? You're in on this too? And don't tell me you have every superhero ranked by compatibility...

BATMANI'm the hero Wonder Woman deserves, but not the one she needs right now. So we'll hunt them down. Because I can take them. Because I'm not her hero. I'm her silent guardian, her watchful protector. Her dark knight.

M.C.'s face goes from admiration to confusion because he recognizes the quote from the movie series.

Batman and Robin start to head out.

M.C.But Batman... I think you're forgetting something...

Batman pauses in his tracks and walks back to Terry.

BATMANYou're right.

Batman slaps a Batman sticker over the flash symbol. Batman gives him the "I'm watching you" and leaves with Robin, who tries to give him another high-five but is ignored.

Superman and Wonder Woman enter.

WONDER WOMANMy amazonian sisters and I had a blast last night and I really mean a blast. Artemis set something on fire.

SUPERMANMake sure to tell Hippolyta hello for me.

M.C. furrows his eyebrows at the crowd.

18.

M.C.You weren't on a date?

WONDER WOMANOf course not. Just another convention for my mother that turned into an amazonian night out.

M.C.Ut-oh.

Batman and Robin enter, dragging "Oliver Queen" aka Green Arrow towards the interrogation room.

BATMANLikely story.

ROBINAnd it's Princess Diana to you!

WONDER WOMANHera, help us.

Superman approaches Batman and Robin.

SUPERMANPut Green Arrow down, Batman.

BATMANDon't get in my way, Superman.

SUPERMANHe did not go on a date with Wonder Woman because there was no date.

Batman looks from Superman to Wonder Woman to Green Arrow.

BATMANI wouldn't leave town if I were you, Green Arrow.

They let go of Oliver Queen.

He brushes off his shirt and exits.

SUPERMANSo Shawarma, anyone?

They all give him a weird look.

SUPERMAN (CONT’D)Or coffee?

19.

BATMANYeah, I could go for some coffee.

He picks up the Spiderman cup covered with a Batman sticker.

The four superheroes head out towards the exit together.

M.C.Batman, that's a Spiderman cup.

Batman turns to him.

BATMANThat's strike two, Madden.
