Thanks to all for their commitment to bringing a

smile to the faces of the “seniors”!

Dear Sisters in Beta Sigma Phi,

Looking back, we have a tremendous heritage - - the Southwest Houston City Coun-cil has been active since 1971 - - - 45 years! What a delicious legacy this is - - and a responsibility. A responsibility to all those Sisters who went before us and forged the way to Life, Learning and Friendship!

Life…to live a bigger and fuller life!

Learning…to be open to exciting and new ideas!

Friendship…to free ourselves to be better friends and open ourselves up to new

friendships!

We have a responsibility to those Sisters who follow us. I envision the SWHCC growing in numbers and enthusiasm!

As we begin this 2016-2017 year, I would like to encourage us to take a deep breath and start anew. Let’s rededicate ourselves to Beta Sigma Phi, our chapters and the Southwest Houston City Council.

Let us put our hearts into it!

Bobbie Viles

President

Friendship Prayer

Lord, Thou knows that I am growing older.

Please keep me from growing talkative and possessed with the idea that I must express myself on every subject.

Release me from the craving to straighten out everyone’s affairs. Keep me from the recital of endless details. Give me wings to get to the point.

Seal my lips when I am inclined to tell all of my aches and pains. They are increasing with the years and my love to speak of them grows sweeter as time goes by.

Make me thoughtful but not nosey; helpful but not bossy. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be wrong.

With my vast store of wisdom and experience, it does seem a pity not to use it all. But Thou knows, Lord, that I want a few friends in the end.

ATM members attended Founders Day Banquet. A memorial service was held for our former member Mary Horton. Mary’s two daughters attended. We were proud of our women of the year, Joyce Chriss. Was good to

see everyone.

Joyce Frank enjoyed celebrating her daughter, Deanna's Birthday on April 16 at the KC Crawfish Boil in Ros-enberg. Joyce F attended and enjoyed the SWHCC's Founder's Day Lunch on April 23.

Barbara Hobbs had a great surprise 80th Birthday party on April 23. Her daughter, Holly, gave her birthday

wishes on FaceBook from family and many friends who have known Barb for a while. Even better was a

"surprise" four-day visit by her sister from Lubbock. This was a great way to celebrate Barb's very special

birthday.

Carole Sandoval has returned from meeting her long time (50 year) friends from elementary school for their 5th annual retreat. This year they met in their hometown of Austin! What a fun time and lots of reminiscing as they visited the LBJ Library, Governor's Mansion (learned everyone must have security clearance to tour) and

Lady Bird Johnson's Wildflower Center with lots of blooming Bluebonnets. They headquartered at Barton Creek - perfect quietness and views of the hill country, for catching up and planning next year's retreat.

Bob and Carole Sandoval went to Richards, TX, near Navasota to meet up with 2 neighbors who are with an Adventure Cycling group and bicycling from San Diego, CA to St. Augustine, FL. The trip takes 2 months so they were very glad to see some friendly faces. Fun to visit with the cyclists - especially those who were visit-

ing Texas for the first time and to hear about all their experiences.

XAZ celebrates LIFE, LEARNING, FRIENDSHIP and SO MUCH MORE!

We celebrated LOSS Mary Horton was a dear sister and she had a long and beautiful life—we

were so blessed to have been a part of her story and we were blessed that she was part of our

stories. While we mourn her loss,

we celebrate the beauty of her life.

We celebrated FREINDSHIP as we

welcomed new little sister - Desiree

Bobet

with her Ritual of J ewels Ceremony.

Sister J eanne Peltier celebrated LIFE and LOVE when she married her Beta Buddy—Alan

Melton on March 13, 2016 in Alvin, Texas, surrounded by their friends and families.

We celebrated TRADITION - Founder’s Day was a spectacular

event as always! Our sister, Donna planned and she and her com-

mittee executed a grand and elegant affair. XAZ chose J ene “GiGi”

K ennell as their Woman of the Year and BOY was she SURPRISED!

All kidding aside, I am deeply honored to be have been chosen to re-

ceive this honor.

Xi Alpha Zeta Continued ….

We celebrated FELLOWSHIP - We had our 2nd monthly

meeting at Clancey’s Public House in Richmond, Texas.

Good food, better cocktails and the best of company!

We celebrated LEARNING and SERVICE through our donations to Faith in Practice mis-

sions to Guatemala. The patients thoroughly enjoyed the blessings of cosmetic bags, toiletries

and socks. The medical staff appreciated the medical supplies. We reached out to help our four

legged friends, as well, with donations and volunteer hours at the Fort Bend County Animal

Shelter and with their partner non-profit organization—SOCA (Saving Our Companion Ani-

mals). Learning through anecdotes relayed from those that partook in the Faith in Practice

missions and the tales of the those that participated in the shelter events.

We celebrate the FUTURE as our sister J eanne Peltier Melton graduates with honors from

the University of Houston later this month.

We could not be prouder of her hard work and determination.

Janie Collier had a hip replacement on Tuesday (26th) and is recovering at a friend’s home. She said they had her walking in six minutes or felt like it! Her friend is a RN so she is in good hands.

Janie starts rehab today the 29th.

Amy Okie: I have been busy with the boys' schools, helping with Passover, Teacher Appreciation, and End of the

Year. We celebrated Passover with two fun Seders and a visit from my MIL. Luke will be in his first school pro-

gram next week so we have been practicing his part. It has been fun cheering him on from the sidelines at soccer!

Diane Giagnacovo: We have been enjoying our camper and visited village creek

this month! Daniel is very excited when we go camping, he's usually full of sand

and dirt all weekend- he loves it. We are looking forward to more trips this summer!

Our chapter really enjoyed founders day! What a

wonderful job done by Donna and her committee!

Oh! & how could I forget, I went on a cruise with my Mom and brother to Cozumel!

Our very first cruise!

In April we met in the home of Johnette Oakes in Magnolia. We enjoyed having Jeanne and Debbie from XAZ join us. Johnette served us a delicious lunch topped off by a dessert baked by hubby, Glynn. It was a yummy

cake made with oranges from a tree in their yard. We had two rituals at our meeting: welcome rituals for Glen-da Howard and Linda Daspit and the Master degree ritual for Johnette. Julie presented a program about the

recent trip that she and husband, Wayne made to Waco, Texas. She showed some pictures and told about the mammoth site discovered and excavated there.

We enjoyed attending Founder's Day - the food was excep-tional! We were excited that all of our members planned to

attend. On that day, however, Mary Gordon was unable to

join us. It was a special day for Julie who received the Gold-en Circle ritual and was also honored as our Woman of the

Year.

Now we are looking forward to attending a Kentucky Derby party being hosted by ATM. Every- One enjoyed a party with this same theme last May and are eagerly anticipating this year's get-together.

Choo! Choo! April showers bring May flowers! It has been a very wet April. We hope everyone is recovering from the floods of Houston.

Our XPG April adventure took us to a fun filled week-end in Fredericksburg. We stayed at a wonderful B&B. Shopping, eating and wine tasting were on the agenda. We had an evening spa regimen that included a facial…

And NOW…look at the new ladies of XPG…wow! What a facial!!!

Saturday, the weather wasn’t quite perfect, but we had a won-

derful time, shopping and viewing the beautiful flower blooms

at Wildseed Farms.

Then we were headed to Grape Creek Vineyards for a wine tasting tour and lunch… We had soooo much fun, that we are now members of Grape Creek Vineyards. We can’t wait for our shipments of fine wines!!!!

And, Sunday we returned home. Thank you Jill and Melinda for a weekend well planned!

Congratulations to the XPG Woman of the Year…(drum roll please) Melissa Dailey.

Melissa wants to thank her wonderful sisters for this honor. “This has been an exceptional year, and I want to thank my sisters for selecting me as the XPG Woman of the Year, the XPG Sweetheart and trusting me as their XPG President. They are the greatest ladies! Thank you!!!

The high point of the month for April was Founder’s Day where our own Sue Carson was both

included in the Golden Circle ritual and honored as XEE’s Woman of the Year. We thoroughly en-joyed the bottle of champagne she bought to thank us.

Because of family responsibilities, Shirley Grass has elected to take leave from BSP for a few months.

She will be greatly missed.

San Antonio was the site for a ‘cousin reunion’ for June Ryan and her cousins from that city, California and Oklahoma. This was an exciting time for them because they had not been together for

twenty-five years.

Barbara Hupe and her daughter have traded places for a couple of weeks. Hupe is in Pennsylvania babysitting with her grandchildren until school is out while her daughter is in Hou-ston beginning a new job. The daughter soon will move here which makes her mother very happy.

Nannette Chapman was reminded this month that she is no longer young when she learned

she’ll be a great grandmother again in November.

Volunteers for the Hampton’s Spring Fling included Barbara Hupe and Becky Fuller who served barbecue.
