For the past 21 years, business partners Dee Dee Ferguson and Lani Peel as well as their staff have greeted customers to their Cobblestone Corner gift, novelty and souvenir store.

Located at 40 E. Center St. — the third site the store has occupied — Cobblestone Corner’s objective is to satisfy various needs of customers in Fallon and beyond.

“We try to satisfy people from Fallon and from outlying areas with home decor and gifts,” Peel said. “We see people from Reno, Fernley, Lovelock, Hawthorne ... We try to offer them things we think they want and we try to make the gifts affordable. Our goal is for the customers to feel satisfi ed.”

Cobblestone Corner features various home decor items such as candles — “We have all kinds of candles,” Peel noted.“We try to specialize in home decor that help our customers brighten up their home or help fi x up their home.”.

In addition, Cobblestone Corner has long been active in community affairs such as fundraisers.

The best fishing hole in the county is Liberty Pond south of Fallon and across the highway from the Churchill County Fairgrounds.

The pond is located on the eastern edge of the county park and is stocked by the Nevada Department of Wildlife with catchable size rainbow trout during the colder months.

Top gun Car WashNearly nine years to the day when they opened Top

Gun Car Wash, Kristen and Randy Evans discovered they were recognized as Fallon’s best.

Top Gun was voted the top car wash for the 2012 Best of Fallon.

“It just means that people really appreciate the quality of car washing we do,” Kristen Evans said.

The Evans, however, opened the car wash in February 2002 after frustrations boiled over with a now-defunct car wash. At first Top Gun was self-serve, but as business grew so did their operation.

In the years since, the Evans have three locations and a fourth on the way.

The Bottom Road location allows Top Gun customers to select from a variety of packages including carpet and window cleaning, exterior and a full detail.

The full-service operation was one aspect the Evans thought could benefit Fallon instead of having to drive to Reno.

Top Gun employs 12, including the Evans’ son, Jon, who helps run the business. Top Gun is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday during the winter months. During summer, Top Gun is open from 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

The Best of Fallon’s top annual event, as determined by LVN readers, is the The hearts of gold Cantaloupe festival. Every year, the festival honors the Lahontan Valley for its contributions in agriculture, especially with the growing of the coveted golden cantaloupe.

This Labor Day weekend event is a tribute to one of Churchill County’s top agricultural products. Festival-goers are able to sample sliced cantaloupe, cantaloupe jams, jellies and ice cream in addition to enjoying those favorite cantaloupe libations.

Sanctioned by the International Chili Society, the one-day Chili Cook-off draws cooks from Northern Nevada. Chili and Salsa cooks compete against each other for prize money. This is also a fundraiser for the Churchill County Search and Rescue.
