Iron and Steel Castings
Combined with over a century of experience in machine tool manufactureand superior technology, John Heine has become synonymous with highprecision iron castings, steel castings, metal casting and white ironcastings specialising in wear resistant alloys for the quarrying, miningand power generation industries.
The foundry uses Solid Works for managing CAD drawing files and AFSSolidcast for modelling the solidification of castings prior to manufacturein order to ensure sound castings. A glow discharge spectrometer isused to monitor the melt to ensure compliance with specifications. Ceramic runners and filters are used to ensure cleanliness of the metal inthe mould. The induction furnaces are designed to tilt backwards for slagremoval, prior to forward tilting for tapping out over a clean lip. Castingsare heat treated in one of the PLC controlled gas ovens with multiplethermocouples connected to a print recorder for monitoring temperaturesof individual castings inside the furnace. Machining of the castings isdone in-house, where CNC programs are generated on a Cam WorksCAM package.
