Introduction
Moving to a new location can be extremely stressful. Packing your belongings and dealing with the
emotional stress that goes along with a move can be just too much to handle. That’s why our Best
Deal Movers family is here to serve you and help make this exciting time a happy experience for
you!
If at all possible, people who are moving out of their current residence should allow themselves
anywherefrom eight to twelve weeks to get things done. However, business owners usually do not
have the luxury of time and should move as fast as they possibly can to keep costs at a minimum. In
either case, you should consider hiring a professional moving company in Georgia such as Best
Deal Movers to make the move as simple and as stress-free as possible.
At Best Deal Movers, we understand that you need a trusted partner to assist you through the
moving process. To help you achieve this goal, we have prepared this useful guide so you can enjoy
a stress-free move.

Moving Checklist for Home Owners
Two to Three Months before the Move
Call Best Deal Movers. Find the right moving company for your move. Best Deal Movers offers several ways
to obtain an estimate for your upcoming relocation:
At a convenient time for you, submit a moving inventory at www.BestDealMovers.com. Make sure your list is
accurate so we can plan how to best serve you. The actual cost of the move may differ from the estimate if
there is a difference in the inventory and/or conditions of the locations on moving day from the information
provided by the customer for the estimate. Be certain to provide as accurate an account of your inventory and
conditions as possible!
If you prefer to give our office a call, we can take your moving inventory and conditions over the phone and
then email you the estimate.
If you have a large home, are moving long distance, or would like our packing services, call our office to
schedule an onsite estimator appointment.
Sort through your belongings. Identify which items you no longer need and decide whether you will
put them up for sale, donate themto charity or discard them before the move. This can help you
eliminate items that you have not used for a long time, which will reduce the cost of the move.
Put your valuable possessions up for appraisal. If you have not already done so, make a video or
audio recording of your valuables and give a copy to your insurance agent. You will need this for
insurance purposes.
Prepare formal notifications. You need to notify the U.S. Postal Service, your utility companies, bank,
credit card providers, insurance company, publications, and government offices (Social Security Office,
IRS, Department of Motor Vehicles, City/County Tax Assessor, etc.) about your change of address. You
also need to inform your doctor, dentist and optician if you will be registering with new ones.
Start a file of paperwork. Make copies of critical documents (birth certificates, marriage licenses,
Social Security cards, insurance policies, wills, deeds, titles, bonds and stocks certificates) and pack
them properly. Keep the original copies with you.
One Month before the Move
Begin packing. This is the perfect time to start packing non-essential items you rarely use (items from the attic,
basement, shed, garage and any off-season clothing). Be sure all boxes have lids, are securely taped closed, and
are clearly labeled.
Designate a holding area. Identify an out of the way or rarely used area in your home and use it asa
temporary holding area for your packed items.
Contact utility companies. Coordinate with utility companies to set up service at your new residence
and cancel existing service. Consider asking if they can apply the deposit to the final bill.

Know which items are not allowed for the move. Flammable materials, frozen and refrigerated
food, open or half-used food and food that is not preserved are not allowed to be packed or moved.
Personal items such as passports, airline tickets, car keys, laptops, cellphones, checkbooks, jewelry,
prescription medications, titles, bonds, deeds and stocks certificates are likewise considered as non-
allowable items during the move.
Make your reservation. Be sure to have scheduled your move!
Two to Three Weeks before the Move
Continue packing. Packing your things is an ongoing process so keep working at it. You should also
disposeof any flammable materials (cleaning fluids, aerosol/paint/oil cans, etc.).If you plan to move
propane, ammunition and fireworks during the process, plan ahead how you will transfer themfrom
the origin to thedestination, as the movers will not be able to legally transport them. They will,
however, be happy to load and unload them to/from your personal vehicle.Have rugs and drapes
cleaned and leave them wrapped up to protect these items during the move.
Prepare your major appliances for move day. Call a service man to do this for you.
Contact your insurance company. Make sure that your current appraisals for your insured
valuables are on file.
Start disposing of unwanted items. This is the perfect time to hold a moving sale. Consider selling
all unwanted clothes, furniture and electronics, and use the proceeds towards the cost of your move.
After the sale, have all unwanted items picked up by your local charity of choice.
One Week before the Move
Continue packing. Collect items from safety deposit boxes, prepare them for transport and arrange
to have them back in safety deposit as soon as possible. You should pack a suitcase with clothing,
toiletries, medications, and first aid kit for your first night in your new residence. Pack essential items
(toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, etc.) in a box and label accordingly; you will need these items
as soon as you settle in your new home. Collect all items that have been borrowed and return to
family, friends and neighbors. You should also return all library books that are currently in your
possession.
Prepare your pets for the move. Take your pets to the vet to make sure all of their shots are up to
dateand prepare all necessary documentation. Attach their rabies tags and your contact information
on your pet's collar.

Get everything in order before you move. Drain lawn equipment and power tools of gas and oil.
You should also decide whether you will give away your houseplants or take them with you in your
own vehicle.
Confirm your reservation. Contact your chosen moving company and confirm the details of your
reservation.
Day before the Move
Check everything. Inspect your closets, cabinets and storage areas to make sure everything is packed
properly and ready for the move. Put items that are not to be packed or loaded by the movers in a
designated area, and make sure your mover knows about it so they will not pack or load themaccidentally.
Unplug. Give your appliances ample time to cool down by unplugging them 24 hours before the move.
Any children or pets? Confirm your moving day plans for your children and/or pets; it’s a lot less stressful
when you know those loved ones are being well cared for and are not underfoot.
Moving Day
Take responsibility. Make sure that you or your representative is present in your old residence to answer
any questions the movers may have and to make sure that the movers load everything you need to take with
you to your new home. Take a final tour of the house before the movers leave to make sure that nothing is
left behind.
Keep the communication lines open. Make sure that the movers have the exact destination address and
your phone number so they can contact you if they have any questions in route to your new residence.
Be the director. At your new residence, communicate where furniture should be placed. Knowing room
arrangement can save you time and money.
Final signature. When the truck is unloaded and everything has been placed where you want it, sign the
Bill of Lading. The driver will give you a copy for your records.

Packing Your Belongings: Some Useful Tips to Consider
Best Deal Movers knows that packing your belongings and keeping them organized can be such a
stressful chore. To make things easier for you, our company offers packing services that take the load
off your shoulders. However, if you prefer to do this task by yourself, below are some tips that can
help you make the task a lot easier.
Keep it under 50 pounds. To make moving easier, you should keep your boxes under 50 pounds.
Consider putting heavy items in smaller boxes and use the larger boxes for lighter items.Use medium
sized boxes for packing cookware, small appliances and decorative accessories. Also, heavier items
should be packed at the bottom of the box while lighter items should be on top.
Wrap it up. Wrap fragile items with bubble wrap to avoid breakage. Wrap each item separately
before putting it in a box.
Cushion it. To further minimize breakage, consider using packing paper, pellets or foam to fill the
spaces between items. Remember to line the bottom and top of the box with additional cushioning
material for added protection. Do not use newspaper to wrap fragile items since they may leave ugly
smudges.
Secure the boxes. Use 2" box tape to secure the seams of the box. Do not use masking tape or duct
tape for this purpose.Remember to stay away from leaving a lot of extra space in the boxes to avoid
anyshifting during the move.
Label them. Label the top and one side of each box using a permanent marker so that you will know
what's in it and the room it belongs in. For this reason, you should avoid mixing items from different
rooms whenever possible. Boxes containing fragile items should be labelled accordingly to reduce
potential breakage.

Moving Checklist for Business Owners
Moving an entire business to a new location can be very complicated and stressful. Since it
involves more people and more details, the planning process should start several months before
you actually start packing your things. (usually 4 to 12 months before the move day)
During the planning stage, you need to:
Establish a timeline. Brainstorm with your internal team to identify the start and end dates for all
the stages of your move.
Identify what needs to be done and what outside assistance you would require.
Get to know your new office space and decide on the new layout.
Brainstorm potential problems and how you will address them.
Get quotes from contractors to define your budgetary requirements.
Set aside a contingency fund to prepare for any unexpected expenses.
Choose a project manager and identify project members.
Communicate regularly with employees to ensure a smooth transition.
Two to Four Months before the Move
Outline all major tasks. Assign specific tasks to project members.
Perform regular budget checks. You don't need any surprises during this time so you need to
keep on top of your budget.
Advertise your move. Notify customers and clients, vendors, suppliers and business partners
about the move and fill out change of address forms.
Identify what needs to be moved. Determine which items will be moved and plan a sale for
items that are not needed.
Educate employees. Communicate your plans, set a date for key/pass collection, entertain
queries and concerns, and set a date for your employeesto start packing their things. You should
also define what they are allowed and not allowed to take to the new office, the rules about
packing their files, desk, personal items, furniture and equipment, and their responsibilities during
the move day.

One to Two Months before the Move
Update your business address. Update your business website and all marketing materials with your
new address.
Conduct a final organizational employee meeting. Offices should already be assigned and plans
finalized for the move. Have employees sort through their desks in preparation for the move.
Establish a schedule. Determine which items can be packed in advance and which items should be
packed last.
Conduct inventory. Inventory all equipment and wall items, and keep a detailed list for packing and
unpacking day.
Get the new business space ready. New phone and extension numbers should be assigned,
utilities turned on, and build out finalized. Finalize the office layout and design to make the best use of
available space, obtain final IT plans, and arrange for a security company to survey your new office if
your management company does not take care of the security.
Organize change of address notifications. Have these notifications ready to send to contacts and
suppliers. Forwarding numbers and postal redirections should likewise be ready for the move date.
Call Best Deal Movers. Request an estimate and prepare a list of things to move so the scope of the
project is clear. Keep in mind that making changes to your moving inventory and/or conditions after
getting the estimate may change the actual cost of your move.

One Week before Move Day
Pack up personal spaces. All personal items should be packed and labelled, and all data backed up
accordingly. Let your employees know that management will not be responsible for any lost personal
items. You should also make sure that all their concerns are properly addressed.
Keep communication lines open. To avoid any problems, keep a list of phone numbers of all the
key players during the move.
Check facilities. Make sure that everything is working properly in your new office including the
bathroom and kitchen facilities.
Clean out old business. You should leave your old office as clean as a whistle, so ask your cleaners
to do a final clean of the premises.
Moving Day
Take responsibility. Make sure that you or your representative is present to answer any questions the movers
may have and to make sure that the movers load everything you need to take with you to your new office. Take
a final tour before the movers leave to make sure that nothing is left behind.
Keep the communication lines open. Make sure that the movers have the exact destination address and
your phone number so they can contact you if they have any questions in route to your new office.
Be the director. At your new facility communicate where items should be placed. Knowing room arrangement
can save you time and money!
Final signature. When the truck is unloaded and everything has been placed where you want, sign the Bill of
Lading.
