Berrigan Public School
‘The Bell Ringer’
Wednesday 29th May 2019
Principal: Dorothy Dore email: [email protected]
It has been a particularly busy couple of weeks with many and varied school activities happening.
GRIP Leadership Conference – Year 6 students travelled to Albury for this leadership experience. Upper
primary students play an important role in the leadership of their school and after this leadership experi-
ence students should have a clearer vision, a solid understanding and dozens of ideas for their time as
leaders.
Lions Public Speaking – earlier this week selected students from Berrigan PS and St Columbus delivered
their presentations to the panel of judges. I was very impressed at the standard of students’ presentations,
delivered clearly, confidently and expressively. Well done to Lucy, Tom from Yr3/4 and Jessica, Mia and
Lachie form Yr 5/6 and to Lucy and Jessica who will now move to the next level in this competition.
Paul Kelly Cup – this 12 a side competition was run in Deni early last week. The JeriBerriO team won two of
their games in the round robin competition but their luck ran out in the semi final when they were beaten
by a combined Deni/Hay team.
Tony Lockett Shield – JeriBerriOs v Finley PS It was a bitterly cold morning and the students from Berrigan,
Oaklands, Jerilderie and Mulwala played a competitive game in great spirit. They didn’t win the game but
held the opposition to 5 goals in the windy conditions. The team was outplayed and outsized and a couple
of early injuries didn’t help! Great effort!
DrumBeat – Wednesday afternoons is significant for the rumble of drums! The beat of the drum signifies a
re-connection with self and the interconnection with others. We look forward to sharing a drumming per-
formance with the school community later in the term .
National Simultaneous Storytime – K/1 students enjoyed Alpacas with Maracas at the town library last
week. This is the 19th year of this national event celebrating Australian authors/illustrators and encourag-
ing a love of literacy.

Variation to travel routines (after school)
To save confusion for staff at the end of the day, any variations to usual travel routines must be communicated
to the school via a signed note or by ringing the front office. At times some students try to persuade staff that
they are allowed to walk home even though their usual practice is to catch the bus. We have a duty of care for
your children and the usual routines will be adhered to unless we have received notification otherwise.
Finley District PSSA Cross Country
This sporting event is happening this Friday 31st May at the Urana Aquatic Centre. The bus departs the school
at 9:00am sharp, the BPS team is managed by Mrs Arnold. We wish all of the students representing BPS all the
best – run well and give it your very best effort!
Alice@Wonderland
The students are busily polishing their performances for the whole school musical performance of Al-
ice@Wonderland. Please mark your calendars for Wednesday 19th June and join us for this creative arts ex-
perience at the Berrigan Town Hall
Breakfast Program
We have been cooking up a storm each morning – at this stage toast and vegemite is on offer from 8:30am.
Thanks to Jono for getting this up and going again. The Berrigan Bakery has generously donated bread and the
Lions Club has passed on goods sourced from the Moira Food Bank which we can add to the breakfast menu –
cereal, porridge, milk, baked beans, spaghetti and tinned fruit.
Breakfast is possibly the most important meal of the day and certainly has a huge impact on concentration lev-
els in the classroom first thing in the morning. Eating breakfast every day is “positively associated with im-
proved school performance.”
