Earnings Before Interest Depreciation and Tax (EBDIT) for the second quarter of FY2012 was Rs. 86 crore as against Rs. 73 crore, reflecting a rise of 18 per cent year on year (YoY), while its margin dipped by 0.4 per cent to 10.7 per cent YoY.

The company reported that higher staff costs and other expenditure hit EBIDTA margin. However, subsidiary performance and price hikes helped topline growth.

Standalone net sales for the second quarter ended 2011 was Rs. 632 crore as against Rs. 517 crore with an increase of 22 per cent YoY while standalone net profit for the same period was Rs. 43 crore as against Rs. 37 crore and an increase of 16 per cent YoY.

The basic earnings per share (EPS) improved from Rs. 1.17 last quarter to Rs. 1.42 this quarter with a growth of 21 per cent.

Looking ahead, the company said that it is expanding capacity by de-bottlenecking. It has also shifted toward water based paints, which contributed 50 per cent of the revenues. However, it added that higher ad spends may keep operating margins subdued.

"We continue to remain positive on Berger Paints as the company plans to expand its presence in the high margin water based paints. We believe new product launches in premium segment will enable company to improve its operating profile and return ratio over the next 2 years.
