BENSON KEY CLUB OF DIVISION 62
Time flies like an arrow, while fruit flies like an old banana. With summer vacation
coming to an end, we've been working hard to make the best of our last month. In
this month of August, we attended Seattle Rally, Member Recruitment at Benson’s
registration, went to the August DCM, and ended with another Sunday Parkways.

Through a lot of hard work and some elbow grease, we were able to throw
together a last minute car pool to Seattle Rally. Seattle Rally was loads of
fun. Everywhere you looked, you could be sure to see colorful mobs and divi-
sions, decked out in their spirit gear, and smiles on their faces. Even the pho-
to bombing crowds were great. We also had two incoming freshmen, An-
thony Hoang and Kim Le, attend Seattle Rally as their first Key Club experi-
ence! By the end of the rally, we can surely say they have been inspired to
join us in the Key Club way of life. In addition, I'd like to give a big thanks to
Ka Hei Lee, our division secretary, and her dad for driving everyone back
and forth between Portland and Seattle. It was a stressful task to organize,
but she handled it with ease. Thank you very much, Ka Hei!
Since school and registration were just around the corner, we took the oppor-
tunity to host a Member Recruitment table at Benson's registrations on August
21st and 22nd. Luring in potential new members with our lovely display boards
and charming officers, we were able to recruit 22 members in total. Our first
meeting will be held on September 24th, in Mr. Ryan's room during lunch. We will
begin at 11:35AM, and then we'll proceed to introducing you all to your officers
of the 2013-14 school year. Let's start the year off well. Hope to see you all there!

The August DCM was a Friday afternoon well spent. There, we made upbeat
and cheesy cards for the cancer patients of Doernbecher. It was great seeing
everyone display their creative abilities in a productive way. After making
cards, LTG Sarah started up a scintillating game of kickball. With everyone
tired and worn out, we finished off with a game of charades, taught to us by
Franklin's VP, Bailey Chen. From arts and crafts to frantic acting and guessing,
we all certainly had a good time.
Being outdoors and watching over the streets of Portland was how we end-
ed August. We collaborated once again with Grant and Bridgetown Kiwanis
to team up and keep intersections safe at Sunday Parkways. It rained quite a
bit, but that didn't dampen our volunteers' spirits! Diligently, they continued
to complete their task. At our previous event, Bridgepedal, we earned $750
for our club. And at the last Sunday Parkways, we earned $275. Thus, in total,
we gained $1,025 for our club. But! That's not including what we'll make from
this month's Sunday Parkways participation! How exciting is that?
