L¹Atelier is pleased to announce ‘Crystal Medium Black’, the first solo show of French artist Benjamin Laurent Aman at the gallery, featuring new works.

Benjamin Laurent Aman is a sound and visual artist whose work oscillates between drawing, sculp-ture and sound, most frequently echoing each other. Each medium exists independently, always flowing from a range of perception that informs his work, combining a physical, mental and emo-tional approach. Aman’s constructions invite the public to travel through undetermined zones, always invested with a particular sense of place. ‘Crystal Medium Black’ is, once again, the result of a synesthetic intuition. Mutually embedded, the visual production appears from the unfolding resonance of a sound piece.

Pale Blue Skies introduce the artist’s work through three large collages, a long-term process of manual gesture, in which space and time are feeding each other.Acting like seismographs of a mental awareness, the serie of drawings Circumvolutions, executed with concentration and quasi automatic writing, exposes an inaudible but active mind in its unba-lanced and ordered state.The lecture of Pale Blue Skies and Circumvolutions also reveal physical factors and external interferences, which skews the experience.By displaying Bouncing Room, left to its own state in the dark, Benjamin Laurent Aman reveals the particularity of a forgotten space confronted by its emptiness, an individual experience endlessly rhythmed by the pulsation of a light reflection.The Night Tables, appearing in a state of ongoing research, recall the idea of thoughts and mental pieces of furniture. Disposed and ordered on shelves, the objects appear as an attempted crystalli-zation: a personal collection placed in a fragile equilibrium.

With the drawings serie Fever Dream, the artist continues to explore the reminiscence of memo-ry by the act of recovery through a fragmented landscape opened to potential scenarios.By offering an aperture between the gallery and its basement, Benjamin Laurent Aman ex-plores a passage between the exhibition space and the building.Set into the hidden space of the backstage, the video installation Zona shows a serie of hun-dreds of images accumulated and projected as a continuum.

In a similar approach, the sound piece Crystal Medium Black explores the infinite layers of men-tal connections, where the experience of space and time is part of a same construction process.

A limited edition of a 12’’ vinyl box set and an original drawing (numbered and signed) has been pro-duced exclusively for the exhibition at L¹Atelier.

Since 2005, Benjamin Laurent Aman’s work has been presented in numerous group exhibitions (Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, CAC Nei Liicht Luxembourg, Selasar Sunaryo Museum Bandung) and de-dicated ones (Styx Projects, Able Kulturverein in Berlin, Kunstraum Michael Barthel in Leipzig). Since 2007, he had many live performances and radio shows (Epsilonia in Paris, Le Tétraèdre in Bruxelles, The Wire on Air, Resonance FM in London...), performed at the 10th Berlin Biennale, Transmediale X, Club Transmediale (CTM), Nu Substance festival in Indonesia, amongst others.

Benjamin Laurent Aman currently resides at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
