Volunteer Clinical Faculty members can participate in a variety of teaching opportunities at the medical student and resident training level and as well as serve on the admissions committee and participate in various other departmental and SOM activities. The following benefits are offered to help recognize and support those who contribute so much to the education of our students and residents. MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION University of Colorado School of Medicine Maintenance of Certification Portfolio Program (MOC) is now available. The SOM MOC Program helps physicians understand and meet the requirements of their specific American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) standards for MOC.  The MOC Program awards MOC Part IV credit to faculty physicians participating in quality improvement (QI) projects, which is a requirement for MOC re-certification. The CUSOM MOC Program will help reduce the administrative burden for faculty seeking MOC Part IV credit, while ensuring they complete meaningful QI activities and meet the high standards for self- evaluation necessary for receiving credit. The SOM MOC Program started in April, 2013, serving faculty at the University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado. Volunteer Clinical Faculty members can obtain a library account which provides the faculty member online access to the library’s digital resources from off-campus. These resources include full-text journals, evidence-based databases, e-books, article retrieval and access to Up-to-Date. In-person access to the library on the Anschutz Medical Campus during all business hours, and on-site assistance from the library’s friendly staff. A library card account allowing for checkout of books and other resources like books for 2 weeks (and the ability to reserve textbooks, laptops and other resources). The Ability to use Prospector and order books from other libraries for delivery and pick-up at the Health Sciences Library. Free or reduced-fee library services, including library classes and professional librarian-conducted literature reviews, or services of library liaisons and reference librarian assistants.

The Academy of Medical Educators provides a home base for teachers and a mechanism to support and enhance all educational programs and teachers at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  For more information, please visit The Academy of Medical Educators website for more information and access. There you will find links to online narrated modules with quizzes and interactive elements covering teaching, feedback and career development.

The Academy and OCBME are developing additional live workshops for volunteer clinical faculty members, including such topics as delivering feedback to learners, bedside teaching in busy office practices, assessing and grading students and dealing with struggling learners.
