It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome the most elusive of our

Central Oregon seasons into the fold, Spring! Come and delight in all things Spring, at the NorthWest Crossing Bend Spring Festival, presented by The Source Weekly. This year, the Peak 104.1 mainstage will coincide with the TeSo’Aria Art and Wine Bop on Friday night, featuring Larry and His Flask at 9pm!

Centrally located on NorthWest Crossing

Drive, The NorthWest Crossing Spring Festival is designed to build commu-nity for the neighborhood of NorthWest Crossing, to promote vitality for the many fine merchants and restaurants of the NorthWest Crossing Neighborhood Center, and to celebrate the coming of Spring! Using art as our canvas, music as our medium, and children’s activities and performances as a way to honor local area families, we, at West Bend Properties, Brooks Resources, Tennant Development, and C3 Events, are proud of the many ways that this festival might enrich your life.

The festival kicks off on Friday night, April 12th, with the Art and Wine Bop! From 6-9pm, local musicians,

winery samplings, and hand-selected, festival artists will be featured within the warm, and covered confines of various NorthWest Crossing Neighborhood Center merchants and restaurants. The School of Enrichment will be hosting the “Art Bop Kids Drop”, with free licensed evening childcare located next to Sara Bella Up-Cycled on NW Crossing Drive.

The festival continues Saturday, April 13th, when you can “pull your best Picasso” by entering the Street

Chalk Art Competition (for both adults and kids) and qualify to win any of a number of great prizes! As you

browse the more than 50 local and regional fine artists, crafters, and importers, by walking the artist promenade and the Souk de Spring Festival, you will bump into 10 foot high puppets, zany stilt walkers, jugglers, magicians, fire dancers, the Bend Endurance Academy Bike Rodeo, and other merry-makers! You might even see the Spring Fairy! The Children’s stage will be packed with dancers, musicians, kid’s yoga, and more! And there will be free children’s arts and crafts most of the day, hosted by local professional artists in residents. Check out the Peak

104.1 Mainstage, where our very own Larry and His Flask, presented by Hydro Flask, headline our Friday Night Kick-Off Concert, and Black Prairie, featuring 4/5 of The Decemberists, bring home the night. The “Conscious Living Showcase” vendors are a remarkable group of businesses who will be promoting green, clean, and collective wellness. We’ll have the usual fine

wines, cocktails and Deschutes Brews on Tap.

In producing this festival, we are standing behind the many courageous bulbs, perennials, birds,

and trees, who, despite their annual confusion, are steadfast in their belief that spring is indeed com-ing to Central Oregon! Inspired by Bend’s fantastic cycling culture and forward-thinking trend-

setters who make art, clothing and function from repurposed materials, we bring you the Let it Ride Cycle/Recycle! This theme of art, gear and activities will be seen throughout the festival weekend.

Let it Ride brings you several fun and informative Cycle/Recycle activities throughout the festival

weekend. First Let it Ride will be on the street with their Pedego electric bikes. Visit Kevin at the booth and take a test drive to feel the best new thing in commuting to work in Bend. You’ll find the Bend Endurance Academy’s Bike Rodeo, a chance for kids to test their bike skills on a fun and challenging ob-stacle course. Hip upcycled artisans from Portland,

Eugene, Salem, Bend and Vancouver, WA will be present showcasing their work using repurposed materials to craft jewelry, accessories, clothing and more throughout the festival space, many with a cycling theme. Gardening tips utilizing composting, a festival vintage shop and other children’s activi-ties provide a plethora of opportunity to ride and recycle.

It’s the Let it Ride Cycle/Recycle and we hope you find a toy that taps your inner child; a child

who dreams of a shiny bike and a beautiful earth to ride it on.

And keep your eyes out for some surprises on one wheel!

Look for this symbol throughout the guide and at the festival info booth for Cycle/Recycle related vendors, booths and activities.Watch as your children’s jaws drop in

amazement when they round the corner to the south end of Fort Clotsap Street and see our Spring into Fun Family Area. Music, ballet dancers, yoga practice, magic shows, gardening projects, giant puppets, stilt walkers, arts & crafts,

face painting, not to mention a kids stage, DD Ranch Petting Zoo and Pony Rides, rock wall, inflatable rides, and the Bend Endurance Academy Bike Rodeo (be sure to bring your bike and helmet for this fun obstacle course)!

Sunday, April 14 at 11am

Help your children welcome spring with a 45-minute yoga and mindfulness session hosted by certified children’s yoga instructor, Heather Furtney of Bikram Yoga of Bend. The circle of young yogis will be limited to 15 children (the first 15 to sign up) ages 5 and older. The workshop will be held on the kids stage and yoga mats will be provided. After a wildly popular premiere last year, this deliciously endearing tea party for 25 returns! The 8-foot-tall Spring Fairy will read (on stilts!) the newest story from Fancy Nancy, while guests dine on high tea finger foods and mango lemonade from Tate and Tate Catering. Kids should come dressed as princes, princesses and fairies. The top 3 best costumes will win a Fancy Nancy book, signed by the Spring Fairy. Fairy paraphernalia like wands, photo frames and tiaras will be for sale at the event, cash-only. Tea party tables will be set for a maximum of 25 kids at 12pm and again at 3pm. Necktie killerCombining funk, hip hop and even some metal elements with ska, punk, dub and rock. In their first two years of being a performing band, the group has played well over 100 shows in the Bend/Redmond Oregon area and is now occasionally taking the act on the road.

larry and his FlaskOver the past two years, however, Larry and His Flask has gone from crawl to sprint at breakneck speed. Jamin Marshall moved from gargling-nails vocals to drums. Guitarist Ian Cook became the band’s primary voice. And a trio of talented pickers and singers — Dallin Bulkley (guitars), Kirk Skatvold (mandolin) and Andrew Carew (banjo) — joined the family. (And no, you didn’t miss something. No one is named Larry.)

sagebrush rockThe band known as Sagebrush Rock started in November of the year 2000. The band plays up-beat classic rock & roll mixed in with some original work. With four different lead vocals and lively guitars, they cover a wide range of rock favorites.

Christina griggs, Jenna rickards & FriendsChristina Rae Griggs is a folk/indie acoustic singer and song writer. Christina was born in Bend, Oregon and raised in Playa del Carmen Mexico. She embraces positivity in her music, playing well known covers from the 60’s to today’s music, as well as her original songs.

World's Finest Blending ska, bluegrass, dub, punk and everything in between, this 5 piece Portland band has created a genre all their own, and has been steadily filling up dance floors and packing venues wherever they go.

state of Jefferson From Seattle to San Francisco and all points in between, State of Jefferson has really been covering some ground. This Reggae/Jam Band based out of Williams, Ore. has even been cruisin’ off to the Hawaiian Islands for the last six years.

MoWoMOsley WOtta is both a full live band and solo performer Jason Graham. He is a prize winning

competitive poet and performer. Both

his visual and auditory artistic expressions of

art inspires us to find common bonds.

black prairieBlack Prairie is an experimental bluegrass side project of three members of The Decemberists. The group formed in early 2007, bringing Decemberists members Jenny Conlee (vocals, accordian), Nate Query (bass, cello), John Moen (drums, vocals, melodica, guitar) and Chris Funk (vocals, bazouki, dobro, weissenborn) together with fellow Portland musicians Annalisa Tornfelt (vocals, fiddle) and Jon Neufeld (guitar, vocals). Black Prairie’s musical exploration will soon culminate in the early 2010 release of their debut, Feast of the Hunter’s Moon, a 13-song collection largely featuring their own brand of bluegrass, plus two traditional tunes.

keegan smithKeegan collaborates with an eclectic mix of musical heavyweights, producers and bandleaders from the Northwest’s thriving music scene and around the world. Keegan’s melodic voice, catchy lyrics and diverse musical sound covers a wide variety of genres, perpetuating a sense of familiarity with listeners of all ages and preferences.

redwood sonWhether or not the name and music of Redwood Son has yet hit the big radar, this year’s “Best New Artist” of the Portland Music Awards is on the rise. Boasting a 20 Song double-disc debut album titled “The Lion’s Inside” he brings a dynamic versatility that crosses the borders of their West Coast Americana with hook-laden Roots-Rock and Alt. Country, while maintaining an authentic Universal “Pop” vibe.

tony smileySince 2000, Tony Smiley has captured audiences with his beats. This musical savant loops his way through a unique genre of music that you won’t find anywhere else. All with witty, engaging, and energetic stage presence. His cosmic dance of electric melodies mixed with world beats, Mongolian throat singing and beat-boxing have earned the loop ninja a cult like following that repeatedly embarks on his musical journey.

I n the tradition of fantastical street art festivals held across the globe, we invite

professional artists, students, kids and anyone who doesn’t mind a little chalk dust on their hands and knees to “bring what you got” to this awesome artistic event and competition. On Saturday, April 13, the east end of NorthWest Crossing Drive will turn into a collec-tion of some of the finest street art around. Whether you’re an Adult 18 and over, or a Student 8-17, we have an empty piece of paved canvas ready for you to let loose with pastel brights.

The event will also feature four highly esteemed artists creating exhibition street chalk art murals.

Two Portland folks will brighten the pavement all day with one-of-a-kind art: Marissa Lopez and Laila Dzene who were both with us as artists and judges last year. Marissa’s work has been featured at “Art Along the Rogue” chalk festival in Grants Pass! Our 2012 Grand

Prize Winner, Karen Elund, will be back as an exhibition artist, as well as Maisy Washatka, our 2012 Youth Grand Prize Winner.

The Chalk Box, a non-competitive chalking area for kids under 8 is perfect for little ones. Send them

over to create their own special masterpiece with sidewalk chalk, sponges, brushes, brooms and more.

tips From a proPlan your drawing ahead of time and bring a few essential supplies to make your street painting experience successful. Things you might want to bring: • Chalk-we’ll have some pastels on hand but bring your own for a wider selection• A pre-sketched drawing or photo for reference• Tape measure• Carpenter’s chalk snap line (if working from a grid)• Yardstick for drawing straight lines• Knee pads• Masking tape• Pieces of cardboard• Felt chalkboard eraser• Plastic surgical gloves• Baby wipes to keep your hands clean• Hat• Sunscreen• Water• Camera! The only way of preserving your art

Competition will go from 11am-5pm on Saturday, April 13. Judging will occur promptly at 5pm so be sure to get out early! Winners will be announced Sunday, April 14 on the Mainstage. Street Chalk Spaces are free, but limited.

The Artisan and Fine Crafts Promenade, filled with 40+ artists and vendors this year, is also a great place to start planning ahead for outdoor entertaining, with garden art, furniture, and tips from the OSU Master Gardeners program.

area debuted at the 2011 Bank of the Cascades Bend

Summer Festival as a way for C3 Events to support local

commercial and non-profit organizations that make a

difference in our community. The Conscious Living

Showcase consists of the “Naturally You Wellness Expo”

and the “Green Living Showcase.” The “Naturally You

Wellness Expo” offers attendees the chance to learn

more about organizations that focus on the art of

staying well and living a balanced life. The “Green

Living Showcase” features vendors that offer a

variety of services and products

River Song Montessori is a non-profit school providing a
