Welcome to Week 10 Term 4 December 12, 2016
I know I said that last week would be the last newsletter for 2016 however there is so much news to tell!
2017 School Leaders
Congratulations to our 2017 school leaders: Alexandra Donoghue, M’ilou L’hostis, Bronte Bell, Hannah Angel,
Nicole Tarrant (VC), Neve Crotty (C), Kyle Villano, Riley Dowd, Michael Bogeholz, Henry Lawson, Ashton
Mace (VC) and Jordan Pattinson (C). I look forward to working with our prefects and captains and have every
confidence they will be an amazing group of leaders.
Cricket Team Success
Congratulations to Richard Cotter and the boy’s cricket team who travelled to Maitland to participate in the final
rounds of the knockout competition last Tuesday. The boys performed exceptionally well in extremely difficult
conditions to finish third in the state.
P&C Major Fundraiser- Xmas Hamper raffle
Thank you for the kind donations towards the P&C Christmas Hamper. We were able to fill five washing
baskets and therefore have five draws. The money raised will continue to support our students in 2017.
Thank you
I would like to acknowledge the kind donation of books to the school by Year 6
student Luke Writer. Luke has attended Ben Venue since Kindergarten and is very
appreciative of the efforts of all the staff. He has been mowing lawns and washing
cars to earn the money to pay for this generous gift. Thank you Luke!

is a nice way to celebrate the wonderful year students and teachers have had

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS
KS The Kindergarten Seals have been counting
down the days left of Kindergarten and it is truly
hard to believe that a whole year has almost
passed. We have had a very busy week with
another one to follow. Thank you to all of the
parents, friends and family members who
attended the Celebration of Learning last
Wednesday. The students enjoyed performing on
the stage and do so now with such confidence!
We are also looking forward to our very exciting
end of year party as well as the K-2 disco this
week. We are continuing with L3 Reading and
Writing lessons in the classroom but our home
reading program has finished for the year. If you
have any readers still at home, please send them
back to school with your child.
As the year draws to an end I would like to thank
all of the wonderful KS parents, grandparents and
family members for your help and support this
year. I have enjoyed working with all of you and
wish you and your families a happy, safe
Christmas.

3T
As the curtains close on the school year, 3T reflect on all the fun we have had. The children were asked to think about their favourite moments from the year.
My favourite memories:
‘… are about everyone, including Miss Trott, laughing all together about funny things that happen in class’ – Will Dorrian
‘…was when Year 3 went to the National Park. We all had fun and laughed together and talked, especially when William and Tom had the biggest laughing fit ever!’ – Thomas Singleton
‘…was when we all went to Thalgarrah and took special photos of flowers and got copies of them in printed frames’ – Hayley Clark
‘…are the drama lessons we have had, and the different drama games we have played’ – Hugo Fittler
‘…was when it was Miss Trott’s birthday and we put up all the decorations and with all the balloons and we had cake and celebrated’ – Skye Vaughan
‘…was when we helped each other out in the classroom’ – Myles Harris
‘…are when Miss Brien was here and we spent lots of time with her’ – Tanya Wickramathilake
‘…are when we went to Saumarez and we got to learn interesting things and explored the house’ – Erica Craig
‘…was when we were doing news one time and Simon was doing news and said a word funny. We laughed so hard that Luca had to go outside to recover’ – Georgia Swann
‘…are all the things we have learned in Year 3 with Miss Trott and how it’s been different to everything we have learned every other year’ – Austin Johns
‘…was when we went swimming with Miss Campbell, because on the last day we got to play in the pool’ – Chenara Westaway
‘ …was the first day I came into Year 3 and made some new friends’ – Chisom Madubuko
‘…was when we went to the Trout Hatchery and we got to feed the fish, and when Luca swallowed a fish pellet by mistake’ – William Griggs
‘…are all the art we have done, I have enjoyed it and everyone had a go’ – Luca Williams
‘…was when the NAPLAN results finally came in, because I was happy with my results’ – Tom Drew
‘…was when we came back from the rainforest and when Luca made us laugh so hard’ – Leen Jezani
‘…are when Hugo kept making us laugh all the time’ – Grace Krug
‘…are when we got to learn stuff at Thalgarrah and on the excursions’ – Lauren Mason
‘…are at lunchtime when we got to play with the Kindergartens’ – Simon Grimsley
Wishing all of the families of the children in 3T a happy and healthy festive season, it has been my pleasure to work with your children this year.
Rhiannon Trott.

CRICKET NEWS Last Tuesday December 6 the Ben Venue Cricket Team played in the finals day of the PSSA Knockout Competition in Maitland. In the first match Milton P.S won the toss and elected to bat. Milton raced along with their batting scoring 99 runs off their first 13 overs. The Ben Venue bowling and fielding improved in the second half of the innings and they were able to restrict Milton to 158 from 25 overs. Best bowlers were Ryan Harris with 1/24 and James Marshall 2/18.
Ben Venue began their innings very cautiously after loosing 2 early wickets to some untimely run outs. Captain Ben Heagney batted solidly throughout the innings scoring 26 runs. Other notable batsmen were Nick Jackson and Hayden Schumacher with 13 runs and Maurice Kelly 12. Unfortunately the continual loss of wickets hampered the run chase and Ben Venue were all dismissed for 124.
In the second match Ben Venue batted first against Parkes P.S. Parkes bowled a tight line and length which made run scoring difficult with Ben Venue only able to achieve a score of 104 from their 25 overs. Best batsmen in this match were James Marshall 32, Ben Heagney 24 and Ryan Harris 14 not out.
Ben Venue then set about defending the small target they had set and did this very well with careful bowling and excellent fielding. Best bowlers were Nick Jackson 2/11, Brock Parsons 1/9 and Maurice Kelly 1/18. Ben Venue restricted Parkes to just 92 off their 25 overs and claimed a hard fought victory in very hot and humid conditions.
The overall winners of the competition were Lindfield Public School from Sydney. Richard Cotter
