Philadelphias Very Own Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklins literary works have greatly impacted Philadelphiaspast, is

currently impacting its present and will continue to impact its future. Franklin and Philadelphia

will forever be linked because of the history between the two. Under the pseudonym Richard

Saunders, Franklin stated, I am, as ever, thine to serve thee, (Franklin 242) Franklin earned a

place in Philadelphias heart and it shows through the things dedicated to his memory in

Philadelphia.

Although Franklin was not born in Philadelphia, he considered it his home. This was the

beginning of Philadelphia being able to claim his legacy as a part of its own. As mentioned by

Wikipedia, Franklin at age 17 ran away to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania seeking a new start in a

new city. This alone greatly impacted the past of Philadelphia because of all of Franklins

accomplishments.

According to Phillyfunguide, Franklins birthday and contributions are celebrated yearly

on January 17th

in Philadelphia. Not only are his birthday and contributions celebrated but he

was also anointed as one of Philadelphias Adopted Literary Sons. These celebrations have

transpired as recently as January 17, 2013. The recognition of Franklins works is very

significant in present times and it is very evident by the actions of the Philadelphians.

In accordance with ushistory.org, there are many things devoted to Franklins name or

likeness in Philadelphia such as the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. These permanent dedications

will forever hold a significant role in Philadelphias future. Franklins legacy will always be a

foundational pillar of Philadelphias tourist attraction. It is quite understood that Franklin was

not only an author but him being an author could never be overlooked. His literary works

certainly were the rock upon what his illustrious legacy stood on.

In conclusion Benjamin Franklin has arguably impacted Philadelphia unlike any other

author. His works in these present days are still being quoted on a regular basis by normal

everyday people. The great legacy that Benjamin Franklin has left will undoubtedly impact

Philadelphias future as it has its past and is impacting its present.
