Dear residents and families,Wow, is it my imagination or

did 2015 fly by? I cannot believethat we are now in December andthat I have been your ExecutiveDirector for almost 12 months.What a sincere joy it has been forme and I am looking forward tothe improvements that areplanned for the communityin 2016.

Last month we said a temporaryfarewell and best of luck to VidaGonzales, who has taken time off tohave her beautiful baby daughter. Atthe writing of this newsletter, Vidahas not given birth, but she isexpecting the baby to arrive any day.We are anticipating Vida will returnin February of next year, and in themeantime we are receiving supportfrom Shar Gephardt, our RegionalDirector of Nursing and CareServices. As many of you may know,Shar is also the daughter of our lovelyresident, Doris Zummach, so pleasesay hello to Shar and help us makeher feel welcome at the community.

November was a very specialmonth for me too because I gotmarried. We had a fabulouscelebration with family andfriends, and I enjoyed a shortvacation with my new spouse and

family who joined us from allover the globe. Thank you so verymuch to those residents andfamilies who gave me cards andwell wishes; your love andkindness meant so much to me.

Thank you also to residents andfamilies who completed theannual satisfaction surveys. I lookforward to hearing the results ofthe survey and to sharing thatinformation with you next year.

As I mention each month, Iwould like to welcome our newresidents who joined thecommunity in November andDecember. We hope that youenjoy living at our beautifulcommunity, and that as you beginto settle, you will join in thevarious activities and residentmeetings that are available eachmonth. Now that we are inDecember, there will be lots ofholiday activities, services andcelebrations. So please look outfor the calendar of events thathave been put together by Jeremyand his intrepid team. We hopethat you will also note the datesassigned to our Resident Council,Chef’s Chat and Resident Activitymeetings. We always appreciateyour ideas and feedback, and allresidents are welcome to attendthese important meetings.

‘Tis the Season for HealthThe holiday season is a favorite

time of year for many people, but itcan be easy to overlook diet with allthe delicious foods, and even easier toneglect exercise. Exercise is beneficialfor everyone, and is especiallybeneficial for seniors over 65 years ofage and older. As the body ages, ittakes a little longer to repair itself,but physical activity benefits people ofall ages and activity levels.

Starting or maintaining a regularexercise routine can be challenging asyou age, especially if you arediscouraged by illness, healthproblems, and injuries or falls. Whilethese factors can be discouraging,these reasons are actually the bestreasons to get started and keepmoving.

Regular exercise has numerousbenefits, including increasing energy,improving mood and sleep,maintaining independence, loweringchances of injury, relieving stress,and even eliminating symptoms ofillness or pain. Many medicalconditions are also improved withregular exercise, such as diabetes,high blood pressure, osteoporosis,heart disease, obesity, colon cancerand Alzheimer’s and dementia.Exercise can also improve your overall

sense of well-being—it is the key tostaying strong and healthy.

Remember to speak to your doctorbefore staring an exercise program,especially if you have a preexistingcondition. Since it may be easy tooverlook diet and exercise during thisholiday season, it is important toremember all of the numerousbenefits of exercise. Committing to anexercise program is one of thehealthiest decisions you can make.Don’t wait for your New Year’sresolution—get started today!

As you know, our staff cannotreceive tips or gifts throughout theyear, so the annual Holiday Fund isan opportunity for you to show yourappreciation for the services providedby our fabulous staff. All moniesdonated are collected and distributedto the hourly staff (no managersreceive a gift). The distribution iscalculated on length of service andhours worked, and I know that it is agreatly appreciated gift by all whoreceive it.
