AdultsBellevue College Parent Education Workshop: Communicating with ChildrenEffective communication with children can be tricky! When children aren’t listening to our directions or warning, we may even begin to wonder if a child’s hearing is even working. Usually his or her ability to her is not based on a physical problem, but on what words we use and the child’s ability to understand what we mean by them. Often adult words don’t get the same results when used with our children. Specific areas of communication include dealing with children’s feelings, gaining children’s cooperation, and freeing children from playing roles.
