APRIL 2015 Volume 2, Issue 3
ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!
Familiar questions:
“Enough snow for ‘ya’??”
“Enough cold for ‘ya’??”
“Windy enough for ‘ya’??”
We will forget just like all the years behind us,
the sand between our toes on our beautiful beach.
We will ENJOY again; good things come to those
who wait….and we have waited long enough!!

Message from Bathurst/Belledune RCMP – RSC3 - 2015-03-23
The Bathurst/Belledune RCMP would like to report that on March 20, 2015, two search

answering pending charges in provincial court later this summer. The names of the individuals
are not being released at this time, as charges have not been laid yet in court.
The RCMP would like to thank the community for its help in the execution of the search warrant
and also pledges to continue work at reducing the effects of illegal drugs in our area.

Trucking through Belledune
Please be advised that Council is requesting your assistance in reducing trucking through our community. For numerous years, the municipal governments have been trying, without success, to have the truck traffic through the community on Route #134 (Main St.) addressed. They have corresponded with the Department of Transportation on several occasions over the years to make Route #134 (Main St.) safer when it comes to truck traffic travelling to the industrial sector of Belledune.
While the municipality has the authority to regulate traffic on municipal streets with a by-law, it DOES NOT have any jurisdiction to regulate traffic on Route #134, a Provincial highway. Council has been reviewing its by-law authority to eliminate trucks on Jacquet River Dr. (No Trucking) as a possible solution to reducing the trucking on Route #134, but it has been advised by the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement agency that unless these signs have been approved by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI), the by-law cannot be enforced. Without the proper enforcement measures in place, the only enforcement would be for traffic violations: speeding, failing to stop at STOP signs, etc. These can be enforced by both RCMP and/or Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. In the interim, Council will reduce the speed limit on Jacquet River Dr. as soon as the signs can be erected in the spring. As well, it will pursue the Traffic Regulation by-law once the process for enforcement can be accomplished with the provincial authorities. However, the long-term solution is to have Route #134 regulations changed by the province. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement can do all enforcements for truck traffic (i.e. weights, vehicle safety, speeds, etc.) on Route #134 (Main Street), the provincial highway.
This is where your - the citizens of Belledune - assistance is requested. Council needs your help in ensuring the proper authorities recognize the dangers to the community regarding truck traffic on Route #134 (Main St.) going to the industrial sector.
Council is asking you to report any truck traffic violations, and safety concerns to the proper authorities. While it can submit complaints from the municipal office, Council needs its citizens to express their complaints to these authorities, as well. Here are the telephone numbers where you can register your complaint or report an incident: R.C.M.P. (Non-Emergency) ………….. …………………………………1-888-506-7267 Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (Non-Emergency)………………….547-2940 (Monday to Friday) As well, we urge you to write or e-mail both Provincial Ministers and express your concerns regarding the safety of Route 134 (Main St.) in Belledune, with regards to truck traffic.
