DESCRIPTION
Despite the hype, few businesses are in a position to move their IT requirements wholesale to the cloud at any time soon. However, this does not mean that there are not benefits to be had from embracing such a services. Whether this is moving the use of certain utility applications over the specialist providers or boosting infrastructure requirements at peak times, cloud services make IT delivery more flexible and used judiciously can free IT staff from many mundane day-to-day tasks. However, there is another side to the use of cloud applications and services; whether IT departments like it not, users and lines-of-business will invoke cloud application for themselves and overlooking this can lead to a loss of control of corporate data. That said, wholesale blocking of certain user invoked applications is not pragmatic either, some of them are probably already embedded in business processes even if IT departments are not aware of this.TRANSCRIPT

Risk - 2 years of change – a rough guide
• Ultimately the security and compliance issues regarding your organisations data are your responsibility
• Either, it should be clear that a cloud service provider is: 1. Providing an SLA that provides adequate cover 2. That the SLA is being adhered to
• Or, your organisation must take the necessary measures itself
Who owns the risk?
Don’t over look risk reduction
• Access to enterprise class data centres
• Better business continuity • Mundane aspects of IT
outsourced to experienced 3rd parties
VALUE Collaboration
Mobility Business process
benefits
• The use of cloud based services is now widespread
• The tide is flowing in one direction • There is growing acceptance of the
“cloud” value proposition • The positive and negative aspects of risk
need to be communicated • Laggards will lose competitive edge
