Required High School Curriculum (RHSC):Carnegie Unit Requirement In Specific Subject Areas

4 Carnegie units of college preparatory English

Literature (American, English, World) integrated with grammar, usage and advanced composition skills

4 Carnegie units of college preparatory mathematics

Mathematics I, II, III, and a fourth unit of mathematics from the approved list

4 Carnegie units of college preparatory science

One unit in biology, one unit of physical science or physics, one unit of chemistry, earth systems or environmental science, and a fourth science

3 Carnegie units of college preparatory social science

Must include one unit focusing on US studies and one unit focusing on world studies

2 Carnegie units of the same foreign language

Must be two units of the same foreign language

Total Carnegie Units: 17

Meet COMPASS testing requirements if standardized test scores are below the following:SAT = Critical Reading: 480 ; Math: 460ACT = English: 21 ; Math: 19

COMPASS Exam Requirements:All applicants wishing to enroll at Gainesville State College for fall 2012 semester or later who are required to take the COMPASS exam must meet minimum scores. The following minimum scores have been established for admission purposes by the Georgia Board of Regents:Reading: 62English: 32Mathematics: 20

“Beginning fall 2012, test scores will be required for all freshman applicants. Students must meet testing requirements before an admission decision can be made. The testing requirement can be satisfied by meeting the minimum scores on one (1) of three (3) tests:

1. Minimum SAT scores (Critical Reading 480; Math 440)

2. Minimum ACT scores (English 20; Math 18) OR3. REQUIRED Minimum COMPASS Scores:

English/ Writing32Reading 62Math 20

Students whose COMPASS scores fall below the minimums in any one of the three areas will NOT be eligible for admission.

For Standardized Testing Scores (SAT and ACT) students must complete four (4) years of high school University System of Georgia (USG) Acceptable Math & English courses.”
