Beginners Class RegistrationThe top bar hive design originated in Kenya,Africa.

This hive structure allows bees to create theirown bee space and wax foundation. Naturalbee space is smaller than bee space inLangstroth hives. Some beekeepers assertsmaller, natural bee space results in fewerproblems in managing colonies and hives.

L.L. Langstroth, inventor of the stackingbox hive system was born in Philadelphia. His hive design revolutionizedbeekeeping and paved the way for largescale commercial apiaries.

The White House bee hive is anexample of a Langstroth hive.

Another advantage of top bar hivebeekeeping is the weight a beekeeper mustlift when harvesting honey. With a top barhive you harvest individual frames of honey, each weighing a few pounds each.

A top bar hive may be a good choice for anyaspiring beekeeper who is differently-abled.
