Claudia’s Creations: Manually Digitizing Embroidery Machine Applique

This workshop will help solidify the digitizing skills for the Bernina Designer Plus Software Version 7 owner. Digitize an applique design from a .bmp using the manual digitizing tools. Create spectacular fills, outlines, and textures over, around and on the applique pieces. This design is created for a 12” finished block. In addition, learn to digitize for multi-hooping with perfect placement. In this one-day workshop you will learn from a profession-al digitizer and embroidery design business owner, how to digitize the flower and center motif using the manual digitizing tools. Curvaceous Ohio Star Create curved Ohio Star blocks using no rulers or patterns. Each unique star will be cut freehand with gentle curves using a rotary cutter. This quilt might appear to be appliqued, but it is completely sewn using curved piecing. We will learn to sew curved sashing be-tween the blocks, and a patchwork curved outer border. Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice is a quilt designed for foundation paper piecing. It is one of Judy Neimey-er’s most popular patterns and has been taught in many locations. This quilt will introduce you to many of Judy’s techniques. It can be made in many different color ways with differ-ent types of fabrics. Japanese Temari: Intermediate-Continuous Flowers

This experienced intermediate temari class will focus on an unusual flower design on a C8 division. The design will introduce the skills of adding extra support lines to a regular divi-sion and following a continuous stitching path. Familiarity with the C8 division and the kiku herringbone stitch is necessary. Students should come to class with a 30cm circumference base already made and marked into a C8 division, along with their marking thread (to add support lines), 5 coordinating colors of pearl cotton (for the design), a needle, scissors, and pins. Japanese Temari: Beginner Series

Temari ('handball' in Japanese) is a folk craft born in ancient Japan from the desire to amuse and entertain children with an embroidered toy ball. Today, the lovely thread-wrapped temari are given as tokens of good luck. A stitched temari ball on a stand is dis-played and enjoyed as a striking example of this style of Japanese fiber art. Floral Elegance The Floral Elegance Quilt is a beautiful machine embroidered quilt that incorpo-rates rich thread colors, large machine embroidery designs and decorative stitch-es. The Embroidery designs are from a collection by Judy Nowicki, and the addi-tional decorative stitches were designed by Serena Nabeta. Just bring your fabric, notions and your own rotary cutter. Hours and days are as indicated below, and may expand as this gets rolling. Sewing sessions are 3 hours. If you choose to bring your own machine you will be given a $5 store credit. Machines are first come-first serve. Essential Elements of Sewing (for ages 8-11) This 11 week course is designed to give children a foundational, skill-building experience in the fundamental techniques of sewing. They will learn how to use the sewing machine and supporting tools, and have the opportunity to build proficiency at an individual pace through a series of useful projects. Design Basics and Portfolio Preparation for Teens (13-18 year olds) This course teaches design concepts and the creative process from the perspective of fashion design. Learn how to create a working sketchbook for inspiration of fabric and color stories, designing, and sculpting a fashion collection. Learn the many hats worn by those in the professional design field, from sketching and illustration to workroom to showroom. Whether you are creating your own wardrobe or wanting to create a portfolio for admission to design school, this course covers the exercises necessary to learn the function and application of working creatively. The full course takes minimally four quar-ters to complete and can also be an ongoing practice. Enrollment in Fashion Construction is highly recommended for learning techniques. More advanced (Level 2) students are welcome to attend the Level 1 camps, but beginning students may not proceed to the Level 2 sessions without permission of the instructor. Kids Sewing and Knitting Camp-Level II “Sewing for Fashion”

Permission of instructor necessary. This course is intended for students who have become fluent in the basic skills, tools, machinery, fiber and textiles covered in Level 1. They will move on to more skill-building in these topics and study the basics of pattern making and notation, as well as the use of textile design for clothing. Students will learn about meas-uring the figure, drafting a first pattern, and other refined construction techniques. In the knitting section of the course, students will create their own double-pointed knitting nee-dles, learn to spin wool with a drop spindle, knit in the round, and make a pair of socks. Ages 8-16. Sewing Practice Workshop A great opportunity to get started or work on your skills! This workshop focuses on build-ing sewing skills on an individual level. Fashion Design Camp “Heading for the Runway” This is a half day camp in fashion design. Topics will include an introduction to the fash-ion industry, fashion as art and haute couture. They will plan a fashion line, create a sketchbook as a working tool, learn how to develop a color story, and create a mood board. Campers will begin fashion sketching and croquis drawing, and learn about portfo-lio development. Although this camp focuses on the preparation of a design line for fash-ion, many of the techniques and concepts are applicable to other fields of design, such as architecture, interior design, textile and product design. Students with those interests are also welcome. No sewing or knitting; additional tools and art supplies required. Supply kits will be available at camp. Bernina Mastery

Bernina Machine Mastery This is a series of classes offered to Bernina owners that is on-going and will help you become more familiar and comfortable using your new machine. Please note that session #1 is repeated the first week of each month. There is no fee if you purchased your ma-chine in our store, but please be sure to sign up by phone or email!
