Dust Proof PanelsPanels are placed between each drawer to seal the dust and par ticles from the contents inside. Panels also add more stability to the entire case and prevent drawers from sticking.

Mortise & TenonThe headboard is connected to the post with a mor tised hole accepting a tenoned rail, the best joint to resist twisting and racking problems over time.

The solid wood bed rails are bolted to the head and foot board.

Bedroom Construction We’ve taken many of the quality construction techniques from cabinets and chairs plus some of the design flair from the lost art of steambending and incorporated them into beautiful bedroom pieces. Much of the furniture you see while shopping is not made as well so become familiar with signals of quality and ask salespeople for comparisons with other brands before you purchase.

Corner Blocks & LevelersCorner blocks are used at stress joints to reinforce the joint, par ticularly at corners. Screw turn levelers provide stability on even the most uneven floors.

Beveled GlassMost bedroom mirrors features a beveled glass edge around the perimeter. The bevel catches light dif ferently and adds a color ful sparkle to an ordinary mirror.

Flush-Fitted BacksA flush back looks cleaner and actually adds rigidity to the case when it is f it ted inside the frame flush to the edges.

Screws are used for a more permanent connection than staples or nails.

Wood Drawer Guide

The center guide assures continuous drawer alignment with no racking or squeaking for a smooth and quiet drawer operation for years.

Dovetail DrawersA sign of a well-made drawer, dovetail joints hold the fronts and backs onto the drawer sides. Drawers will remain tightly together and square for years of trouble-free use.

Jewelry TrayA felt-lined jewelry tray is conveniently located in the top drawer of many dressers and chests. Some have divided sections like the one shown here.

The rings inside a cut log formed the background for this circular logo. The N&S initials are overprinting a large“C” for chairs.

1910

This logo went on a special fan back Windsor chair.

1930

An unusual logo developed in the mid 1930’s for a line of children’s chairs and rockers made from solid pine.

1931

The early shield symbol shown above in this 1931 logo was inspired by the House of Windsor’s coat of arms hanging at the Windsor Castle in England.

Wood used in chairs was harvested from fallen trees following a hurricane.
