What is in the world we live?
Exposure to “Toxic” Substances in Our Environment
• Definition of “Toxic” • Where are all of the toxic
substances coming from?
We may be exposed to exogenous toxins in every day life Let’s look at a typical day for many: You wake up in the morning and put your feet on your new carpet. You wash your face with soap. You brush your teeth with toothpaste. You shower and wash your hair with shampoo. You apply deodorant. You apply perfume/cologne. You apply sunscreen or other cosmetics. You get dressed in clothes you picked up from the dry cleaners. You eat a bowl of “healthy” cereal with milk. You get in your “new” your car that has been parked in your garage
attached to your house. You drive to work or school and sit it traffic for 20-40 minutes.
Ok, Stop! Let’s dissect the environmental toxins that you are unknowingly
exposed to, just in the first waking hours of your day.

Let’s talk about the air you breathe.
https://gispub.epa.gov/air/trendsreport/2016/
• Stationary emissions from factories • Mobile sources from airplanes, buses and cars • Area sources from gas stations, businesses
and homes • Natural sources from forest fires, flooding,
and storms
These cause emissions which are carried by the wind. The wind acts as transport which results in chemical reactions. According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) air pollutants are directly released into the air but many others are formed in the air. The most common are: • Carbon monoxide (CO) • Lead (Pb) • Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) • Ozone (O3) • Particulate matter (PM), and • Sulfur dioxide (SO2)
https://gispub.epa.gov/air/trendsreport/2016/
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has a researchable data base of approximately 16,000 foods and drinks that are packaged in materials that have chemicals. In particular, BPA (Bisphenol A) which is a chemical in the epoxy used inside of cans to prevent corrosion. This is found in the 126 million canned foods manufactured in the U.S. each year.
The industry list contains 11,879 unique product names. Because of variations in some products and incomplete information for others, EWG's conservative calculation finds more than 16,000 traceable Universal Product Codes.
What is in foods we eat?
http://www.niehs.nih.gov/health/topics/agents/sya-bpa/
This is contamination before you even eat or drink the item. The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) did a study in 2003 to determine the exposure of BPA. The findings demonstrated that 93% of the population of people six years and older where BPA was detectable in urine samples.
The 2016 Dirty Dozen List from the EWG
1. Strawberries
2. Apples
3. Nectarines
4. Peaches
5. Celery
6. Grapes
https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/list.php
The US Department of Agriculture and the FDA have a data list of testing pesticides residue in fruits and vegetables. The EWG analyzed these results and rated these popular produce foods. Forty-eight popular items were rated, lowest number being the worst! These made the list for the “Dirty Dozen”!
7. Cherries
8. Spinach
9. Tomatoes
10. Sweet Bell Pepper
11. Cherry Tomatoes
12. Cucumbers
America’s Weight Management Problem

How to Deal with All the Pollution?
Limit your exposure.
Replace the substances in the house, yard, skin care products, and food with clean alternatives.
Tune up the body’s natural detoxification ability.
Perform a whole body detoxification a minimum of once per year.
Toxins Can Contribute to A Range of Conditions:
Food cravings and weight gain

Questionnaire
Front side is indicative of the challenges to various organs
Back side is indicative of the person’s risk of exposure in his environment
Free Tool – In paper and Digital Format
www.standardprocess.com/TQ
• Complete this form before and after the program • New digital version on Standard Process website www.standardprocess.com/purification
The higher the score, the more concern for the person
If any individual section total is 6 or more, or if the grand total for sections 1 and 2 is 40 or more, then the person may benefit from the Clinical Purification program
Questionnaire
Total Exposure
On top of the exogenous exposures, our bodies have to clear the ones that are made in the body daily
Unfortunately, our bodies were never meant to handle the amount of exposure that is currently occurring and our bodies are overwhelmed.
Organs of Detoxification
Liver
Kidneys
Small intestine
Large intestine
“All Disease Begins in the Gut”
-Hippocrates
Gastrointestinal Tract
Small intestine responsible for digesting and absorbing nutrients, serves as barrier for exogenous substances.
Large intestine has bacterial and dietary antigens to help immune system function if the body is exposed to substances that the small intestines could not filter out.
The Liver
Blood passes thru liver at the rate of three pints per minute.
The most metabolic organ has 600 known functions.
Regulatory functions:
• Carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism
• Storage of glycogen, Vitamins A, D, B, iron, & copper
• Detoxifies substances
Only organ to have two separate sources of blood supply • Hepatic artery • Portal vein
What is Liver Detoxification?
Food vs. foe?
Biotransformation of substances by the liver
Goal: render the substance in a form that is easily excreted
Two distinct categories make up biotransformation of substances
Phase I reactions
Phase II reactions
Foods That May Support Phase One Modulation
Brassicas
Nutritional yeast
Whole grains
Citrus*
Green tea
Berries

Randomly tested 28 chiropractic patient’s serum lipid levels on the purification program
9 males and 19 females: tested weight, triglycerides, cholesterol
Patients were not on any lipid lowering drugs
Patient’s ate fruits and vegetables only and consumed the whole food concentrate supplements provided with the program
RESULTS:
Powell, J, & Leonard, J. A nutritional program improved lipid profiles and weight in 28 chiropractic patients: a retrospective case series. Journal of Chiro Med. (2008) 7, 94-100.
Total cholesterol decreased for all 28 patients who completed the 21-day purification program. Total cholesterol decreased an average of 47 points in these patients.

First task: Learning to master making a nutritious & delicious supplement shake
This is my personal favorite! I call it the Green Goddess! The Green Goddess Shake ½ cup coconut milk, unsweetened ½ cup water (add more water if you like a thinner shake) ½ cup frozen mango ½ small frozen banana 2 scoops of SP Complete Regular or Vanilla 1 Tbsp. hemp hearts 1 Tbsp. chia seeds 1 Tbsp. flax seeds Handful of frozen kale ( I freeze my kale when I can’t eat it before it goes bad) I put all the ingredients into the blender (I use a Nutribullet) and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Special Dietary Considerations
Diabetics
Low glycemic index fruits ~ berries
Eat smaller more frequent meals
Do not consume juice
Add ¼- ½ tsp cinnamon to shakes
Blueberries, sweet potatoes and lentils can help support healthy blood sugar already in a normal range.
Purification Expectations
Frequency of urination may increase as the body is flushing out substances.
Increased bowel movements. This is a normal response to cleansing.
In some instances, people will have side effects such as a throbbing sensation in the head, generalized aches, itchy skin, or even a little fatigue.
These symptoms are normal responses to cleansing and should pass after the first day or so.
Once past this, you should start to feel better than you have in years! Work with your practitioner as needed.
EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE!
Did I say “Exercise”?
Moving the body is another key way to support your body during these 21 days.
For cardio: Walking is simple and safe, with minimal equipment required. My recommendation is to get a Pedometer, you probably have one on your smart phone. The pedometer will help keep you accountable.
Goal: 10,000 steps per day, everyday!
For muscle tone: I highly recommend some type of strength training. You can use machines, free weights, bands or your own body weight for exercise. This is important to maintain muscle and at the same time to burn body fat.
Goal: 3-4 times per week!
Other Tips to Make the Most of a Purification Program
Lymphatic drainage massage
Yoga, breathing, meditation
Epsom salt baths
Infrared sauna therapy
Sleep
Hydration
