•Ms. Tipton is seeking input from theCLCA and ASLA. She hopes to tie theprogram into the horticultural programsat area colleges.

•The California Center for SustainableEnergy, on Balboa Avenue, has provideda grant to develop a Fire SafeLandscaping curriculum.

•The Green Gardener CertificationProgram will present an holisticapproach to gardening, showing thebenefits of sustainable practices from thesoil up.

•The program will be targeted tolandscapers and maintenance crews, both English and Spanish speaking.

•The county will be soliciting an industry

stakeholders group in the future. Anyoneinterested in participating should contactCecilia Tipton at 858/694-3691.

Public Relations•Amy Conrad will be the chapter’s newPublic Relations person. She will workwith Rick Griffin on PR for the upcomingawards program. She has worked for theOrange County Chapter as well as BriggsTree Company, Hydro-Scape and severalcontractors.

•The next new member event isWednesday, June 16 - a happy hour atGordon Biersch in Mission Valley.

Resource Management•The Regional Water Quality ControlBoard will hold a meeting on July 14, at9 a.m. at 9174 Sky Park Ct.

•Brian Maynard suggested that CLCA andASLA develop a plant list. Someagencies require designers to use a listthat is less than ideal. Creating anaccurate and thorough list could takemuch research. Fabian suggested aconsortium of nurseries to help fund anddevelop a list. Existing lists includePlant Master, the Nifty Fifty andinformation from Nan Sterman.

Education•Fabian has updated the contact list forthe school outreach program.

•Fabian will discuss possible topics forfuture meetings at the next boardmeeting.

Legislation•There was an industry bulletin from theCSLB urging all contractors to updatetheir contact information as quickly aspossible when a personal or businessaddress or telephone number changes.Failure to do so is grounds for adisciplinary action.

Updates:•AB2332 – Withdrawal of Opposition –CLCA withdrew its opposition after theBoard of Equalization assured it will useits authority judiciously in suspending acontractors license when a licensee isdelinquent in payment of sales or usetaxes.

•SB392 – Withdrawal of Support – LLCorganization. The limitations for thesurety bond and minimum liabilityinsurance make it impractical for mostsmall and mid sized contractors tobenefit.

•AB2630 – Passed the Assembly Revenue& Taxation Committee. This bill is forthe $3,000 tax credit for hiring anunemployed person.

•SB1231 – The author of the bill will offeramendments to restore the public worksexemption to the sweatshop labor codeof conduct. This bill requires statecontractors to certify that no supplies ormaterials furnished in a state contract orused in a public works project wereproduced by sweatshop labor.
