Citizens of Beaumont will have opportunities throughout 2016 to help create the community’s new Municipal Development Plan.
“The timing is right to seek residents’ ideas, desires and vision for the future of Beaumont,” says Mayor Camille Bérubé. “With the annexation decision pending and our population projected to continue growing strongly, it’s the right time to have that dialogue with residents.”
The Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is a statutory document that sets out a clear vision for the future of Beaumont and serves as an important decision-making tool for Council, administration and all stakeholders. It’s the primary document that guides the future development and growth of the whole community.
“Beaumont’s future vision will be created through public consultation in order to ensure

the MDP accurately reflects the wants and desires of residents, business owners and all stakeholders,” Mayor Bérubé continued.
As a statutory plan required under the Municipal Government Act, the MDP is reviewed and updated every five to 10 years. Beaumont’s current MDP was developed in 1998 and was last amended in 2009 prior to the annexation project.
The MDP outlines policies to accommodate growth while balancing land use priorities with cultural, social, environmental and economic considerations. An MDP addresses several issues, including future land use, future development, transportation and municipal services. In addition, the process will consider whether a majority of residents want Beaumont to pursue city status or remain a town.

Keep it Green Beaumont Solid Waste App & Web Toolbeaumont.ab.ca/curbsideIf you are a smart phone or tablet user, download the Keep it Green Beaumont curbside collection app for organics, recycling and waste. The app gives you a personalized collection calendar for your address. Plus, you can set it up to send you (or a loved one!) a reminder the night before to put out the correct bin. It provides sorting information and other valuable tools to help make it easier to manage your waste. The app is available at the iTunes store and Google Play.
There is also an online web tool—a widget—that gives you the same features, at beaumont.ab.ca/curbside. So far, over 1,700 apps have been installed, and the widget has been used 11,500 times. Way to go Beaumont!

Work is Underway to Reclaim Former Landfill SiteRemediation work began on the old landfill site near the intersection of HWYs 625 and 814 on the south side of Beaumont. Central Oilfield Service began the work in the last week of February and it is expected that this phase of the project will be completed by May. The work

consists of excavating and separating cap, waste, and recyclable materials, and hauling each portion of excavated materials to the appropriate disposal sites.
Due to the nature of the work, the former Freedom Dog park has been permanently closed. Once remediation is complete, the land can be developed to provide additional amenities for residents.

2015 Family and Community Support Services Annual ReportFCSS experienced another busy year, which included the transition of municipal childcare services under the FCSS umbrella. We experienced an increase in requests for services due to the challenging economic conditions in our province. This was most clearly demonstrated through the significant increase in the numbers of residents accessing the Christmas Elves Hamper program. However, our new provincial government has recognized the increased need for preventative services resulting in a small increase to FCSS funding which we are utilizing to support early childhood development in our growing community. I am pleased to share some highlights of 2015 with you! Kim, FCSS Director
Asset Building Committee HighlightsHonduras: In July, FCSS partnered with the CBYC and Souls of the Feet to bring our youth to Copan Ruinas, Honduras. We worked with Urban Promise Honduras to help with a variety of programs that serve the underprivileged youth of Copan. Our youth experienced a different perspective of culture and community by engaging local children and youth.
Events: Amazing Race, Dodgeball, Play for Life and Climb a Hill for Jill.
Block Parties: Helped residents host 8 Asset Building Block Parties in the summer.

Chantal Berube Youth Centre HighlightsSummer of 2015 was one of the busiest summers on record at the CBYC. Youth travelled to Honduras to volunteer in after school programming with underprivileged youth, we partnered with Diverse Youth to host fun Friday nights and even hosted a few open mic nights outside where local youth could come show off their talent by singing or reading poetry.
In 2015, FCSS gave over $16,000 in grants to community
organizations.
