BYSC camp is winding down, and what a summer it has been. I would especially like to thank the terrific staff that we had working this year. Their enthusiasm, knowledge and winning attitude made this year’s Learn to Sail and Summer Camp one of the best ever! We are hoping that everyone will return again next year for a repeat performance.

Big kudos to Gordon Sproul, John Barber and a whole big group of Auxil-iary members and River Rats who made this year’s Water Festival Regatta a resounding success. Every racer had a great time, and the onshore festivities – well they just rocked!

All the sailors are gearing up for the start of the Fall Series beginning La-bor Day weekend. There has been great wind in the afternoon almost every day and boats are hitting the water to brush away the cob webs.

See you on the water, Larry Hamilton

Hey Ya’ll,

It has been a heck of a great summer at the BYSC!

I have been blessed to have a wonderful group of young

people helping me run our summer programs and I am so

glad that have stuck with me. Our Swim Coaches, Summer

Camp Staff, Lifeguards and of course Renee Dillinger in the

office have helped me through a crazy couple of months

here. I am very proud of all of them and all the work they

have done. Our camp has been as much fun for us as it is

for our campers!

As these young folks head back to school I wish them all

the best and I’m counting the months till it’s time to do it

all again. We will have kids activities throughout the school

year to include more shark tooth hunting, science pro-

grams, and a chilly boat ride or two. These activities are

open to kids of all ages and we hope to see ya’ll around. I’ll

get mighty lonely if folks don't come see me in the cold

months!

Thanks again to everyone for making this a wonderful

summer at the BYSC!

Milledge H Webb

Sailing and Racing RACING:

The Water Festival is history and a big thanks to Regatta Chairman, Gordon

Sproul, PRO, John Barber and the River Rat team.

The next big racing event for BYSC is the start of the Fall Series and the popular

Labor Day Regatta. The regatta, Sunday Sept. 1 and Monday Sept. 2, leads off nine weekends of great sailing. George

Post is heading up the Labor Day Regatta and you will hear more of the particulars as we get closer to the event.

However, for you River Rats and PRO’s, the volunteer sign-up sheet is posted on the porch and you are encouraged to

sign up for the fall racing. Speaking of PRO’s, congratulations to Andy Kinghorn and Dave Pontious for attaining their

US Sailing Club Race Officer certifications. They join four other certified PRO’s at BYSC.

You might want to write down these Fall Series race days so that you don’t miss anything. Warning signals are at 2pm

except for 1pm during the Labor Day Regatta.

Sunday, Oct. 6

Sunday, Oct., 13

(Sunday, Oct. 20 will be a “fun day sailing event”)

Sunday, Oct, 27

We need PRO’s, mark boats, helpers and recorders for each weekend. Come and join the fun on the water.

Sailing in the fall is sometimes the best-usually a bit lighter in wind strength than the spring but with some sea breeze

in Sept.

In other BYSC racing news, the PHRF fleet will be starting up soon and you will hear about the particulars from Ever-

ett Ballenger for the fall series and from Roy Crocker for the Dataw Cup on Oct. 19.

The juniors have been extremely active this summer including various national level regattas-Lisa Mazzeo will be re-

porting on these events. And Sunfish B fleeters, join Cheryl, Robin and others in the fall races. You can reserve your

club Sunfish ahead of time.

It’s hard to believe that summer sailing is almost over and we’re looking at the fall. How time flies.

See you on the water.

Frank P., Fleet Captain

I am very happy to announce 4 New Memberships for July,

Mark and Lorin Siegel, Kate Polevitzky, Robert and Celeste Pruit, and Rob and Pam Vyge.

We look forward to getting to know all of you!

Although it is a little steamy outside at the moment, The BYSC PHRF Fall Series will be here before you know it!

We start Friday Sept 20

th at 5:30 pm. A little later in the month than last year. The

hope is that by starting later in September, the winds will be a little better for us. Please note - there will not be a race on October 18

th, as this is the Dataw Island

Cup race weekend. The only problem with starting later in the month, is the loss of day-light may possibly be an issue. The last race in November is the weekend the clocks go back, and we end DST.

Attached is the NOR, Registration form, Approximate mark locations, and Class

Regulations. We will have two classes again for the Fall Series. Class “A” is orientated more towards boats designed for racing, boats that have been upgraded to their vari-ous class racing regulations. Spinnakers and hi-tech sails are allowed. But boats still need to comply with PHRF and class racing regulations.

Class “B” is for the more (cruiser) type boat/owner…who wants the excitement and

fun of racing, but does not want to fundamentally change their boat or boating life style. Only types of sails that were supplied with the boat when new are allowed. No spinna-kers or “hi-tech” sails allowed.

I hope we have a great turnout like we did last year. See you on the water!

For more information please contact Class Captain Everett Ballenger, (843) 521-7977.

BYSC Auxiliary Committee Report “To the promote social enjoyment, fellowship, and the general welfare and beautification of the

Beaufort Yacht & Sailing Club”.

If you like what you see at the club these days, and would like to become more involved in keeping things going, the Auxiliary is your avenue to do so. Bring your ideas and en-thusiasm for the club, and as a group, we can make them happen.

Just a few of the things that have sprung from these meetings since our group began . . . Kitchen renovation, bathhouse renovation, beautiful landscaping, Steak night, BYSC merchandise, onshore regatta support, family games, online Directory and even the Swim Club.

The Auxiliary was happy to be a part of the rejuvenated Water Festival Regatta this year. Thanks to each of you who helped put together a terrific spread of food after the races both days.

Please join us at our next meeting, Thursday, August 15th at 6pm. This will be a “Bring an Appetizer to Share” even-ing while we discuss new ideas and meet new friends.

Cheers,

Sue Hamilton, BYSC Auxiliary President
