UHP170 and UHP250The Beam Ultra High Pressure (UHP) washer is offered in two
variants, the standard 170KW model and a high power 250KW
version. Both machines have a variety of applications – including
runway rubber removal, painted line removal, and surface texturing.
They can be equipped with different high pressure cleaning heads
to suit each application – allowing the width of clean to be varied
between 300mm and 2500mm.
Both machines are mounted on either 3 or 4 axle chassis.
They have 14m³ stainless steel hoppers containing:
• Fresh water tanks
• A waste tank
• The ultra high pressure water pump
• A powerful fan driven vacuum system to collect waste.
The machines are powered from the chassis engine driven through
a hydrostatic gearbox. A CAN control system monitors and controls
the operation of the water system, the vacuum waste collection
system and an array of different cleaning heads and other optional
equipment. This allows the machine to be operated by 1 driver from
the chassis cab.

The UHP170 and UHP250 are equipped as standard with rear mounted rotorcleaning heads
for jetting large surface areas – for example for runway rubber removal or road surface
texturing. The UHP250 has a 2500mm wide system containing 5 rotor heads in a partially
overlapping configuration using 110 nozzles positioned to ensure an even application of
water to the surface. The UHP170 is equipped with a 1500 mm wide system using 3 heads
in a similar configuration.
For the cleaning of smaller or narrow surfaces – such as painted line removal, a variety of
optional front or side mounted rotorcleaning heads are available.

The UHP Water PumpsHammelmann has over 50 year’s experience in the construction of UHP pumps that are
used in some of the most arduous environments worldwide. The Hammelmann service
network is extensive – with service centres also located worldwide. The HDP174 and
HDP254 are vertical pumps of 3 and 5 cylinders respectively, featuring:
• Stainless steel stress free pump heads
• Bellows that form a hermetic seal between the suction chamber and crank section
• Solid tungsten carbide plungers
• Bronze suction chambers
• Integral speed reduction gears
• Pressurised oil lubrication systems with oil cooler and filter
The UHP pumps are driven directly from the chassis gearbox. An optional splitter valve can
vary the flow between 37 and 57 litres/min with the UHP250 and between 14 And 34 litres
/min with the UHP170. Pressure and flow can also been controlled via the gearbox.

Control Centre
The CAN control system has been designed for ease of use and
monitoring of the various functions during operation including:
fan speed, oil and water temperature, oil pressure and providing
a summary of the brush gear (or other optional equipment) in
operation. The user friendly control panels are linked to the CAN
controller located under the hopper in an IP66 waterproof locker.
These controllers communicate with all the machine´s sensors and
control valves and ensure all the safety interlocks are functioning.
The controllers and programming language use a Sauer- Danfoss
system also used by: Claas, Caterpillar, Case New Holland, Landini
Manitou, Putzmeister, Merlo, Kalmar, Cargo Tec, Rolls Royce Marine
and Lännen.
Coverage
Beam UHP machines are equipped with the most powerful water
pumps available. Through well tested systems using CAN controls
and the latest water jet technology, the Beam UHP can offer very
high levels of coverage with little or no adverse effects on the
underlying surface.

Waste Hopper, Water Tanks and Vacuum SystemThe waste hopper and water tanks are constructed from grade 304 stainless steel.
A hydrostatically powered fan system creates a strong vacuum that draws waste water
and debris into the hopper via nozzles on the ground that are integrated within the
rotorcleaning heads. The maximum vacuum is 1,800mm water with an airflow of 30,000
m³ per hour. The waste hopper is emptied through a pneumatically operated rear door by
tipping hydraulically.
Optional EquipmentMachines can also be equipped with a combination of additional options. Examples include:
• Runway and apron sweeping systems
• Cleaning of surface areas prior to UHP water use
• Aircraft stand cleaning and scrubbing with or without detergent

Hydrostatic gearboxThe hydrostatic gearbox has a maximum continuous torque of 21000 Nm in mechanical
mode for normal driving. The gear ratios range from 5.27 to 36.24 giving a speed between 0
and 5Km/h in hydrostatic mode. The hydrostatic gearbox has a length of 720 mm, height of
850 mm and a weight of 430 kg.
In hydrostatic drive, the vehicle is controlled from the chassis throttle pedal – both
acceleration and braking. When a desired speed has been reached an autopilot/ cruise
control can be engaged. The autopilot forward and reverse buttons are controlled from a
panel situated at the driver’s armrest.
Cooling and FiltrationAll Beam heavy duty cleaning machines are designed to work in a wide range of arduous
environments. The UHP machines have engine, hydraulic and water systems rated to
operate at up to 50 ºC ambient air temperature. The water filtration system ensures that all
impurities greater than 1μm Are filtered out and cannot damage the precision elements of
the water pump and nozzles.
