BE SMART,

DON’T START

What is an etwinning project?

An etwinning project is a collaboration between

Maltese and other European students, with the aim to learn together about a

particular topic.

HOW SMOKING

IMPACTS ONE’S

LIFE

How it affects sports: Sports requires a large amount of energy. When one smokes, their

body will have less fuel, and the little fuel it has is not transported to the

areas that are needed when you are practicing a sport.

How it affects appearance:

The skin is probably the first thing that one notices. When you smoke, the skin wrinkles prematurely and

dark circles appear around the eyes. Smokers’ hair becomes more brittle and more likely to break off before it’s fully grown. Heavy smokers are more likely to go bald. Prolonged

smoking causes yellow, stained fingernails and teeth.

And so this is us...

HOW SMOKING

EFFECTS OTHER

WHAT IS OUR

ETWINNING

PROJECT ABOUT?

Our etwinning project is called

“Be smart, Don’t Start”. It’s about smoking. Only few people know about ALL the problems that

smoking can cause., and how it interferes with daily

activities.

Passive smoking means breathing in other people ‘s

tobacco smoke.

HOW SMOKING

AFFECTS THE

SMOKER

Smoking is hazardous to health, because it causes:

Cancers: The main substance in

cigarettes that causes cancer is “tar”. Such as: Lung,

Kidney and Liver cancer.

Cardiac Diseases: Smoking affects the heart and the

circulatory system by increasing your heart rate and causing a

sharp rise in blood pressure.

Respiratory System: Harmful substances of the

cigarettes accumulate inside the bronchial tubes, that is the

obstruction of small air ways in the lungs, which prevents inhaled air

from exiting, which causes ruptures of the air sacks.

Passive smoking is dangerous to

everybody, basically a second hand smoker is

affected just as much as the active smoker.

A person who smokes heavily indoors causes a permanent

low-lying smoke cloud that other household members have no

choice but to breathe.
