BDM Component Installation and Registration This installation package and instructions are designed for Windows & IE users who are not on the CUNET domain. They allow the user to properly setup and configure their environment for BDM usage. Users that are on the CUNET domain have had all these installations and setups automatically carried out on their PCs through the network. BDM relies on the use of active components and certain IE security settings for optimal use. With this package the user can manually install and configure their environment. Instructions: 1. Using Windows Explorer create the following directory location on your PC: C:\temp\bdm Note – there should already be a C:\temp directory on the PC so all you need to do is open it and create a new folder called “bdm” inside it. If not then first create a temp folder on the root of C: and then create the bdm folder inside it. 2. Download the Windows BDM Setup Install file from the BDM Support Site (http://carleton.ca/bdm/training/support-guides/). Save the download to the C:\temp\bdm directory you created in step 1.

Instructions:

1. Using Windows Explorer create the following directory location on your PC: C:\temp\bdm

Note – there should already be a C:\temp directory on the PC so all you need to do is open it and create a new folder called “bdm” inside it.

3. Using Windows Explorer navigate to the C:\temp\bdm directory and locate the file you just downloaded – Windows_BDM_Setup.zip

4. Double click the file to open it. At this point you are viewing the contents of the .ZIP file. The contents now need to be extracted. In the upper left corner of the Windows Explorer screen locate and click the “Extract all Files” button.

5. A pop up window will appear asking you to select or provide a destination to extract the files to.

Please ensure that the destination you provide is the following: C:\tyemp\bdm\

Click the “Extract” button on this window. Note – by default the destination will be set to C:\temp\bdm\Windows_BDM_Setup when the window opens. Simply backspace the Windows_BDM_Setup portion away.

6. When the contents of the .ZIP file have extracted you should have the following files in C:\temp\bdm:

ComponentCheck650.inf SpellCheckComponent.msi ComponentCheck650.ocx WxIrcCtrls650.dll Install.cmd WxScan650.inf IrcResultSet650.inf WxScan650.ocx IrcResultSet650.ocx WxSuperCtrl650.ocx IrcViewer650.inf XsAdobeComponent91.msi IrcViewer650.ocx XSScanningComponent.msi KeyViewComponent1080.msi

8. After you have installed all four .MSI files the next step is to install the active components. In C:\temp\bdm locate the file named Install.cmd. Right click on the file and choose “Run as Administrator” Note – a command window will open and you will see the progress of the installation on that window.
