LOST AND FOUND
Any trailer entering BBV MUST use the
visitor lane, even if you have a decal on
your towing vehicle,
This allows the guards to check for cur-
rent decals, if it’s a boat/trailer AND they
can open both gates to allow for safe en-
try for all types of trailers.
Too often the gate arms have been bro-
ken off because the reader doesn’t recog-
nize the trailer as belonging to the vehicle
towing it.
Keep your speed DOWN!!
There is a reason the speed limit is
20MPH within BBV. There are no side-
walks, therefore the roads are used as a
sidewalk would be. People walk, ride
bike, skateboard, ride scooters, run, and
even at 20MPH hitting someone will
cause serious injury.

BIRCH BAY VILLAGE YACHT CLUB CRUISES
A Quick Look At BBVYC's Upcom-
ing June and July Cruises:
The second leg of our 2019 cruising pro-
gram, the San Juan "Island Time" cruise,
was a smashing success. Thanks to cruise
hosts Chris & Agnes Doutre and Russ &
Marsha Murkowski, we had a great time
exploring our favorite island destinations.
Looking ahead now, we see two more
great cruises looming on the cruise radar.
INTO THE GULF ISLANDS:
June sees us venturing into Canada’s Gulf
Islands, eventually ending up in Port Sidney
to celebrate Canada Day.
Trip leaders Bob & Pat Simpson will take
us to their favorite places and ensure we
experience the best each venue offers. The
25 June - 1 July foray includes post-border
provisioning in Pender Island's Port
Browning.
This unique little place also has a pool, a
café, and nearby shopping. Next, the flotilla
will anchor and possibly raft up in Saturna
Island's Winter Cove Marine Park. This
beautiful little provincial park has a dinghy
dock, walking trails, and a nearby café for
lunch.
Then we move on to Galliano Island’s
Montague Harbour with its endless list of
things to do, including an optional trip to
the Hummingbird Pub via its infamous ce-
lebrity "musical" bus driver. Our final stop
will be Port Sidney on Vancouver Island.
Cruisers will find bountiful shopping, great
food, and spectacular holiday fireworks.
Port Sidney's annual Boat Building Contest
and Race is a hoot. Entrants must con-
struct their boats between 8AM & 4PM for
under $100 in materials.
Race time is 4PM sharp when it's off to the
water where only one is "fastest" around a
course. Some sink and some don't. It is
hilariously entertaining to watch and the
food choices afterwards are fabulous. Port
Sidney is a great place to visit with all of its
museums, eateries, book stores, street
fairs, and markets.
Canada Day weekend there is a "bucket
list must". See the SignUp Genius for the
specific details. We would love to have
you grab your passports and join us on this
great cruise!

VIEWING THE SKOOKCUMCHUCK
RAPIDS:
In July, cruisers will make their own way individu-
ally to Gabriola's Silva Bay where the hosted trip
will originate. This trip will begin as we cross the
Strait of Georgia early on the morning of July
15th to make for Secret Cove where cruisers
may either tie up to a dock or anchor out in the
protected harbor. The next day is a short hop
into Pender Harbour's Garden Bay. Here, again is
a choice of anchoring out in the protected bay or
docking at the Garden Bay Pub. The next leg will
take cruisers to Egmont's Backeddy Resort and
Marina. Here we
will view the
world's fastest
tidal flow. It's
only a short hike
from Backeddy to
the Skookum-
chuck Rapids
where we will
safely picnic
while watching
the rapids cycle.
The “Skook”, as
it is known by
locals, is anoth-
er "bucket list"
item and inspirational to behold. Currents have
been measured as high as 17.14 knots. Needless
to say we will not take our boats near them.
Kayakers and surfers
may also be seen in
action playing on the
waves. Our next stop
is only 8 miles away in
the Harmony Islands.
Friel Falls, another
breathtaking view, is a
1450-ft water drop
and easily seen up
close and personal as
we pass by on our way
to the Harmonys.
From the Harmonys,
some may want to
jump off and continue on their own to Princess
Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox Falls as they are
within easy reach. Those who wish to see Prin-
cess Louisa Inlet but don't wish to make the 68-
mile round trip from Egmont on their own boat
have another option. There is a daily local excur-
sion up and back with a stop at Malibu Rapids and
a tour of Chatterbox Falls in the inlet. From the
Harmonys, trip hosts Bill & Lyn Rackley will shep-
herd cruisers safely home via Pender, Secret, and
Clam Bay on Thetis Island. They, as with all our
cruise hosts, are happy to assist with information
and reservations as needed. For those who may
wish to travel by car, they may easily drive and
join us at Backeddy Resort. It is an easy and sce-
nic trip by car. After crossing the border at the
truck crossing, go straight north to Highway 1
and then west to the Horseshoe Bay ferry termi-
nal. The driving time to the ferry terminal is
about 1:15. The ferry takes about 45 minutes and
it is another 1:30 drive to Backeddy...this plus the
wait at the ferry will make it about 4-hours en-
route.

Love to see you on one of these great trips.
Happy and safe cruising to all,

FOOD & CLOTHING BANK DONATIONS
Please do not forget that your Food
Bank donations are a huge help to
those in need anytime of the year.
Please check your cupboards and pan-

is open for any event. Please do not

HELPING HANDS
We have a wonderful group of volun-
teers who are available to provide tem-
porary assistance to residents in the Vil-
lage who are sick, recovering from sur-
gery or otherwise need a helping
hand. Some of the short-term assistance
we can provide include meals, rides to
doctor appointments and medical treat-
ments, grocery shopping, etc. We also
have a good supply of medical equipment
(bed rails, crutches, folding wheelchairs,
a transfer wheelchair, shower chairs,
walkers, and toilet risers, nifty grabbers,
etc.) which is available on a temporary
basis. There is a folding wheelchair
ramp available for short-term loan to
Village residents. If you or someone you
know needs a "helping hand," please call
Linda at 206-276-3713. When borrowing
or returning equipment or requesting
other Helping Hand services, Linda is the
one to call. And thank you for returning
all equipment in a sanitized condition.
If you are thinking of donating equipment
to Helping Hands, please make sure the
equipment is in good condition, sani-
tized, and can be safely used by BBVCC
residents.
STAFHOLT GOOD SAMARITAN CENTER
The Social Club continues to provide
monthly birthday gifts for the residents
of Stafholt in Blaine as they have for
many years. The Club members are also
involved in staffing the “Bingo Bucks”
shopping tables for the residents each
month. This is where the residents can
use their “Bingo Bucks,” earned while
playing bingo, to shop for small items for
their family and themselves. The
“store” could use your help to re-
plenish the tables with items for
the residents to purchase. Especially
needed are items for ladies who love
jewelry, scarves, blouses and tops size 14
and up, socks, lotions, etc. If you have
further questions, please contact Melanie
at 360-393-3774.
“Bingo Bucks’

shirts with non-golf logo/messages, and other overly casu-
al or unkempt clothing.
Footwear is required when playing on the BBV golf
course and cannot cause damage to tee box or putting
surfaces
Metal-spiked golf shoes are not allowed.
Damage: Golfers are responsible for any damage they
may inflict to the course or to related BBVCC improve-
ments. BBVCC has no responsibility for any property
damage on adjoining property.
Inappropriate Behavior: Inappropriate behavior on the
BBV golf course is not acceptable and will not be toler-
ated.
No trespassing: Golfers must respect adjacent proper-
ty owner yards – do not trespass without permission.
Trespassing in this definition means placing ones physical
body (foot, hand, etc,) on BBV member’s property. No-
body may trespass on the Golf Course without permis-
sion.
Ground repairs: Golfers should repair ball marks on
greens, replace or fill divots with sand on fairways, fill div-
ots with sand on tees, and rake sand bunkers as appropri-
ate.
Golf clubs/bag: Each golfer is required to have their own
set of golf clubs and bag; golf bags may not be placed upon
the surfaces of greens.
No practice: Golfers may not use the course as a
“personal” practice area or driving range; golfers must use
practice areas provided (putting green, hitting cage, chip-
ping area).
Course markers:
Out of bounds: Out of bounds areas are marked by con-
tiguous white stakes or a painted/chalked white line; no
ball should be played from an out of bounds area.
Yardage markers: Fairway yardage markers are marked
by painted circular disks or by red (100 yard) or white
(150 yard) stakes; distances from tee boxes to center of
greens are marked by in-ground yardage monuments at
the tee boxes.
Right of Way: Golf Maintenance staff has the right of
way on the golf course. Maintenance activity on the golf
course takes precedence over golf play. Golfers must not
hit balls in the general direction of staff.
A complete set of these rules are available on the
BBVCC website bbvcc.com, in the Pro Shop and on the
Pro Shop Bulletin Board
