Info Kiosk: Then (May 2010)

Built by students in ENGR305 Spring 2010.

Purpose - To stand as an educational piece near the entrance of the farm, and to be use for obtaining information about the farm.

Made with cobb and finished with earthen plaster.

Info Kiosk: Now (Oct. 2013)

New wooden kiosk has replaced cobb and natural plaster kiosk.

More stable and able to withstand weathering.

Food Dehydrator: Then (date)

Purpose - preserve surplus crops

such as vegetables, fruits, and

meats while promoting sustainable

practices through demonstration.

How it works -

• Solar energy is absorbed → heat

• Heat rises into chamber

• Passes shelves of produce

evaporating water contained in

produce (AKA dehydration)

We were informed that the food dehydrator…

➔Never properly worked ◆ Most likely due to high humidity of Arcta.

➔Rarely used ◆ Not enough surplus crop

➔Took up space ◆ Removed from Bayside Park Farm

◆ Current whereabouts = unknown

Greywater System: Then (Spring 2005)

• Required too much maintenance

• Over capacity - system too small for amount of water used

• Anaerobic decay → failed project

• New build plans (May 2013)

• Tool storage shed area expanded this past summer o New wash station

o Took place of old system
