O U R P H I L O S O P H Y

The company’s history:

1929 Bruno Bauerfeind establishes a business that specializes in the production of medical compression hosiery. In 1939, the company already employs over 100 dedicated workers.

1949 The political situation forces Rudolf Bauerfeind and his family to leave their home. They begin anew in Darmstadt-Eberstadt.

1972 Hans B. Bauerfeind, grandson of the company founder, accepts the leadership at the Kempen-based company Diedrich Grote Nachfolger. In 1978 he merges the companies in Darmstadt and Kempen into Bauerfeind GmbH with joint headquarters in Kempen.

1991 This year marks the return of the company back to the place of compression hosiery knitting. Hans B. Bauerfeind begins constructing new headquarters at Zeulenroda.

2002-04 Bauerfeind AG is established. The Bauerfeind Innovation Center (BIC) and the Logistics Center are founded as new entities in Zeulenroda.

2005 Move to the new administrative building, which, at 57 meters (187 feet), is the tallest building to be constructed in the state of Thuringia after Germany’s reunifi cation.

Over 75 years ago, Bruno Bauerfeind combined entrepreneurship with

social commitment by looking towards the future and investing in the

healthcare market. Today, his courage and determination can still be

felt throughout the entire company, since great ideas last over time.

Although the philosophy that people work for people originated in

Zeulenroda it has circled the globe. Bauerfeind viewed this globaliza-

tion philosophy as an opportunity. As a result, patients, doctors, sci-

As early as the 1970’s Bauerfeind proved that it is worthwhile to link

sports medicine with product research. The GenuTrain® was developed

by the joint efforts of Bauerfeind and two well-respected sports medi-

cine doctors: Prof. Dr. Hess and Prof. Dr. Krause. Still today physicians

work closely with the R&D department. The results of these synergies

are patented, prize-winning products as well as the realization that

combining the two together can create the best for the patients.

M O T I O N I S L I F E

Competence, ambition and team spirit are values encouraged by

Bauerfeind. Therefore, involvement in sports on a regional, national

and international level was a natural evolution for the company.

Today, Bauerfeind AG supports 3,800 athletes and as official spon-

sor for the German Olympic Team helps team doctors and physical

therapists do their job.

As early as the 1920’s Zeulenroda was already the most well-known center for

compression hosiery manufacturing, its reputation known beyond European

boundaries. That’s where Bauerfeind Phlebology is located. Since 1991

Bauerfeind has been producing compression hosiery of the brand VenoTrain®

in one of the most modern manufacturing sites of the world – products for

the systematic treatment of mild to severe venous insufficiencies.

Therapeutic braces and orthoses by Bauerfeind Orthopedics set the standard

in the medical industry. They support the rehabilitation process after injuries,

degenerative diseases and surgeries and support motion. A milestone in the

history of the company was the GenuTrain®, a knee brace that has proven to be

effective for 25 years. As all other braces of the Train®-series the GenuTrain®

has been further developed and improved. The new GenuTrain® has been

awarded for “Best Design”.

The development of highly effective medical insole systems along with

the use of computer-based measuring and milling technologies have made

Bauerfeind the leading manufacturer of Foot Orthopedics in Europe. Relief

shoes as well as the footcare system GloboConcept® complete the product

line. With its know-how Bauerfeind Foot Orthopedics supports the ortho-

pedic health care market by actively enhancing its services and products

to best serve the patient.

Mobility enhances the quality of life. Nobody knows this better than an

amputee as well as the artificial limb technician. Technical know-how

and extreme sensitivity are equally demanded. This is why Bauerfeind

Prosthetics seeks the advice of not only O&Ps, physicians and scientists

but also amputees when developing these products.
