Weekly Newsletter Stage/class information

It’s official—our chicken coop is open.

It was with much excitement that we cut the ribbon on our new chicken coop. Marcus, Nic, Isaac and Phil have done a wonderful job in building this structure for the chicks we have incubated in Boronia and Wat-tle. Their next big plan is the veggie garden and the compost heap. Our office area is really looking great of late, with our new digital photo frame and some colourful children’s work on display. Our office staff have also undergone a change in look and have implemented a new uni-form. They look great and I congratulate them on their initiative.

School reports will be distributed on Monday. Teacher/parent interviews will be held in the second week of Term 3. The Adventure Playground is now on hold until the weather warms up. Kinder and parents have had a wonderful time doing this activity. We are hoping to now go to the town library for visits until spring. Our Stage 2 and 3 boys are playing football today in the Peachey Cup competition. They were very keen and enthusiastic to get there despite the rain. We wish them the best of luck. Have a great week end Toni MacDonald

And the winner is ……. I’m sure the word has passed around by now that Wentworth are the 2010 athletics champions. Congratula-tions to them! Congratulations also to our record breakers – it will be a very interesting District Carnival next term. We thank Julie Pattison, Marg Nicholls and Simon Coomans who kindly volunteered to assist with tim-ing and starting the races. Without their help the day would not have run as smoothly as it did. And finally, a word of warning – Lawson are out for revenge. Watch out for us in 2011.

Vegetable garden We were recently given a grant from Council to buy a tumble compost bin to reduce our food waste and to start a vegetable garden. Plans for this are underway. Very timely for us, McCain have announced a school competition whereby they give us “points” to spend on gardening equipment for every barcode we collect from their frozen vegetable packs. We ask you to spread the news around family, friends and neighbours and bring your barcodes to Mrs Little or Mrs Carr. We will keep you informed as to how we are going and what we are buying. Now, how about a nice bowl of peas!!!

Banksia Homereaders: Due to the reorganisation of the homereaders in the Banksia block the children will not be doing home reading in the last two weeks of this term. Please ensure all readers are returned by the end of this week ready for a fresh start next term.

Video games go live – what parents need to know. Games consoles like Xbox, Playstation 3 and Wii now let your child access the internet to connect with players from around the world. Whether they’re communicating live via text, speaking to each other through headsets or linking up through webcams, it means gaming now has a social network-ing element. It also means that as a parent, there’s a lot more research you need to do before you can plug and play. Read this month’s Click (www.schools.nsw.edu.au/click) to find out about the new gaming environments, and how parent controls can make it a nicer, safer virtual-world to be in.
