Bath

Bath is a city steeped in a history and culture. There is so much to discover and learn as a tourist. The city is located in the county of Somerset in the south west of England.

• The population of the city is 83,992

• It was granted city status by Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth I in 1590

• The city was first established as a spa with the Latin name, Aquae Sulis ("the waters of Sulis") by the Romans in AD 43

• It became popular as a spa town during the Georgian era, which led to a major expansion that left a heritage of exemplary Georgian architecture crafted from Bath Stone.

• The City of Bath was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1987

• Over one million staying visitors and 3.8 million day visitors to the city each year

Traveling to Bath

• Train: You should exit the train at Bath Spa train station which is in the city centre and close to the local shops and attractions. Bath is about a 90 minute train journey from London.

• Air: Bristol Airport is just 20 miles from Bath. Alternatively you could fly into Heathrow or Gatwick Airport and then catch the train to Bath.

• Road: Bath is located just 10 miles from junction 18 of the M4 motorway which runs direct from London and Heathrow Airport. There are also excellent motorway links from the North and Devon and Cornwall via the M5 motorway.
