BASS

The audition for Bass will consist of three parts: 1) Big band excerpts 2.) chromatic scale 3.) optional open submission 1.) Play the Swing and Latin excerpts below as indicated 2.) Play your chromatic scale from as low to as high as you feel comfortable, at a speed that feels good for you to play. Play it ascending and descending. 3.) OPTIONAL—submit something of your choice. This could be you improvising a walking bass line of a 12-bar blues, taking an improvised solo with a backing track, or a video of you playing with a band. Really anything that gives me an idea of your musical personality and experience. If nothing comes to mind, it is totally okay to skip this part! If any of the tempos suggested feel too fast, feel free to play them where they feel comfortable. This audition is for me to get to know your playing experience and style; it is not a test!
