Lorenzo Antonio Iosco Bass Clarinet
Lorenzo Antonio Iosco has been the “Principal Bass Clarinet” in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra from November 2015. He held the same position for 6 years in the London Symphony Orchestra. Born in Potenza in 1985, he moved to Terranuova Bracciolini, Tuscany with his parents at the age of 6. It is in Tuscany that he studies music, by graduating with top marks in 2005 from “L. Cherubini” Conservatory of Florence, under the guidance of Maestro Fabio Battistelli. Straight after graduating, he starts his career as clarinet player by collaborating first with the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana and later with the Symphony Orchestra of Rome (Arts Academy). In 2007, he won the competition at the Madrid Opera Orchestra (Orquesta sinfonica de Madrid titular del Teatro Real). He has been living in Spain for two years. In 2009, he was offered, after the audition and a trial period, the position of Solo Bass Clarinet in the London Symphony Orchestra. With this orchestra, in just 6 years, he has already travelled several times around the world and played in the most important theatres, such as the Berliner Philharmonie of Berlin, the Suntory Hall of Tokyo, the Havery fisher Hall of New York, La Scala of Milan, the Opera House of Sidney etc. and collaborated with conductors of international renown, such as Valery Gergiev, Bernard Haitink, Lorin Maazel, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Myung- Whun Chung, Daniel Harding, Semyon Bichkov, Andris Nelsons, Sir Antonio Pappano, etc. With the London Symphony he also recorded the soundtracks of Hollywood films such as the Twilights Saga, Harry Potter, Philomena, Frozen, The Brave, Rise of the Guardians, The Monuments Men. He is also regularly invited by other orchestras: in these years, he has played with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestra of the Gran Teatro La Fenice, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of St Petersburg, the Philharmonia Orchestra of London. As clarinet soloist, he debuted with Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra K622 in London and in Hong Kong. From 2012 to July 2015, Lorenzo Antonio Iosco was a teacher of bass clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music and at Guildhall School of Music & Drama of London.
