Duration: circa 9 1/2 minutes
- An accidental with an arrow means to play approxomitly a quarter-tone away from the notated pitch.
- Each of these markings denote the same amount of tremolo (on strings) or flutter tongue on flute, clarinet, and horn. The symbols change according to the number of flags in the rhythmic notation.
Notation
For all
For flute, clarinet and horn
For strings
- A '+' notehead for horn means to tap on the bell creating a percussive sound.
- Open circles as noteheads means to produce keyclicks. Try to produce higher or lower sounding clicks in relation to their position on the staff
- An open notehead with a slash through it for flute means to create a mostly breath and keyclick sound with a small amount of pitch.
- A triangular notehead for clarinet denotes slap-tongue.
- An 'X' notehead for flute or clarinet means to create a breath sound on the instrument.
- Portamento (abbreviated 'port.') and glissando (notated by a line between notes) are to be performed in the same way. 'Port.' is used when drawing glissando lines would be impractical because there is not enough space between notes.
- This marking means to perform with very heavy bow pressure creating noise.
- A triangular notehead for string instruments means to finger very high pitches.
- These symbols mean to play an accelerating or decelerating constant rhythm within the given time.
- Pizzicato, guitar-like playing on string instruments. Clear pitches should not be made, but instead the strings should be muted creating clicking sounds.
- This notation on string instruments means to slap the strings creating a percussive sound.
- This notation for string instruments means to play pizzicati so high that they are mostly noise with almost no pitch.
