Alms Giving

Jesus calls us to give alms to the poor. One of the ways the Little Flower family does this is by donating to our monthly collection for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Unfortunately, some of the needy in our community have taken to not just asking for money outside the Basilica, but also harass-ing parishioners and visitors.

Because of this, the Basilica asks that you please refrain from giving money to anyone outside the church and instead refer them to our community chapter of St. Vincent de Paul who will happily help and minister to them.

If you would like to volunteer or make a contribution to our com-munity’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul, they can be reached at (210) 736-3883. Office hours: Mon-Thur 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Prayer, Procession, and Mass for Life

Sunday, January 12, 2020 | 1:15 PM | St. Mary’s Church Downtown (202 N. St. Mary’s St., San Antonio, TX 78205)

Renew among your people a readiness to nurture and sustain your precious gift of... LIFE. Every year, the Archdiocese of San Antonio calls for the renewed protection and promotion of the gift of life with a prayer service, procession, and mass for life at San Fernando Cathedral around the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. In 2020, this event will be held on Sunday, January 12th, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The prayer service begins at 1:15 PM at St. Mary's Church Downtown, followed by a procession to San Fernando Ca-thedral at 1:30 PM. The Mass will start at 2:00 PM and will be presided by Most Reverend Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS, Archbishop of San Antonio. Because of the prayerful nature of this event, please do not bring signs or distribute literature of any kind.

Your prayers make a difference…Your presence matters… For more information, contact Nicky Mata 210-734-1651 or [email protected] https://www.archsa.org/for-life

A Prayer for Life

Father and maker of all, you adorn all creation with splendor and beauty, and fashion human lives in your image and likeness. Awaken in every heart reverence for the work of your hands, and renew among your people a readiness to nurture and sustain your precious gift of life. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Ho-ly Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen

Faith The Basilica is a center of spiritual and apostolic activity, where we invite you to renew your

commitment to God and begin a new journey in faith.

Did you know?

In this season, we are filled with the joy of Advent and the Christmas Season. Our joy comes from faith that God has fulfilled His promise of sending a Savior whose birth we celebrate at Christmas.

In times past, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets. God's constant word to us through his mes-sengers in this season is: "Do not be afraid. I bring you news of great joy, for today, a Savior has been born for you who is Christ the Lord." What we celebrate in this season is what was promised long ago through the prophets.

God initiated communication and revelation of Himself to humanity through the prophets, in view of the re-demption that was to come to us through the Incarna-tion of the Lord. So, we should not fear, for the Savior, our hope in ages past and our help now and for years to come, is close at hand! His coming brings the rich graces of His life into our own lives.

Lord, hear our prayers… The following family, friends, and members of the Little Flower Family need your prayers. Contact the administration office to have names added to the prayer list.

Are you interested in learning more about Carmelite spirituali-ty? The Apostolate of the Little Flower is a nonprofit publication and ministry of the Discalced Car-melite Friars of San Antonio. Its

purpose is to spread devotion to St. Thérèse of Lisieux, “The Little Flower,” and to support the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower’s restoration project.

Established as part of our first apostolate, The Little Flower Magazine reached over 100,000 subscribers in 1923. Recognizing the great devotion of subscribers from all over the country, the friars took as their mission to spread devotion to Thérèse, to prepare for her can-onization in 1925, and to build a national shrine in her honor.

The winter issue of The Apostolate of the Little Flower is now available! Subscription is free! Subscribe today on the Basilica’s website at: littleflowerbasilica.org/apostolate-magazine/
