WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST (cont’d) JOSHUA SHAKESHAFT (Rip Van Winkle) is absolutely thrilled to be doing one last show with HMTS! Joshua is a member of the Concert Band, Concert Choir, Night Choir, HeartBreakers, and President of the Jazz Band. Joshua would like to thank his family for chauffeuring him from rehearsal to rehearsal, and Chef Boyardee, for lifting his spirits when no one else could.
ABIGAIL DODGE (Dame Van Winkle), a senior, has performed in several Falls Village Children’s Theater productions, including Hansel and Gretel, An-nie, A Musical Revue, A Holiday, and Kids! as well as North Canaan Drama Club’s performances of Sleeping Beauty, Annie, Beauty and the Beast, and The Trial of Goldilocks. She was also in Fiddler On The Roof, Chicago, The Drowsy Chaperone, and The King and I with HMTS. Abigail enjoys dancing, soccer, and lacrosse. Abigail would like to thank HMTS for such an amaz-ing experience throughout her four years. She will miss being a part of the close-knit cast next year.
ELIAS ABBOTT (Older Rip Jr.), a sophomore at HVRHS, has performed in several musicals, including Willy Wonka (Candy Man), Blackboot’s Loot (Cap-tain Blackboot), The King and I (Prince Chulalongkorn). Elias also runs varsity Cross Country as well as play alto and baritone saxophones in the school’s Band and Jazz Band. Elias would like to thank his peers and his family for encouraging him to pursue his goals and challenge himself.
ELIJAH BATTELSTEIN (Mr. Vedder), a freshman at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, has performed in musicals such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Mike TV), Remote (Ensemble), and Princess and the Pea (Knight). Elijah plays soccer on the Junior Varsity school team and is a bass in the School Choir. Elijah is excited for this musical and wants to continue acting in future Housatonic musicals.
DANIELA BRENNAN (Town Child), a 6th grader at North Canaan Elementary School, has been in numerous performances including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She has especially enjoyed working with Michael on FVCT’s A Holiday Show and Disney Show. Her acting career was inspired when she saw the Broadway show Lion King. Daniela plays the flute in the school band and loves soccer, basketball, math, and traveling.
GAVIN BUDNY (Mr. Knickerbocker/Gnome), a freshman, is performing for his first time in an HVRHS musical. Since 5th grade, he has been involved with the production of musicals at his elementary school/middle school (Cornwall Consolidated School), starting with working on sets up until 7th grade when his music teacher “convinced” him to be a part of the musical (Willy Wonka) ensemble. The next year, in 8th grade, he took a huge step, and took the role of the Beast in Beauty and the Beast.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST (cont’d)CARIANNE CALLINAN (Gertrude Lindemulder), a senior, is excited to perform in Rip Van Winkle: The Musical. Past performances include Chicago (Ensemble), The Drowsy Chaperone (Trix), The King and I (Lady Thiang), the HMTS 15th Anniversary Gala, and numerous other shows at NCES and FVCT. Last summer, she was the Assistant Stage Manager for All Shook Up at the Sharon Playhouse. Carianne is a member of Concert Band, Jazz Band, Night Choir, and Sweethearts. She thanks the cast and crew for always making the shows a memorable experience, as well as her friends and family for always supporting her. “Break a leg everyone!”
CHARLOTTE CLULOW (Katrin Andersen), a sophomore at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, has been acting since she was 5 years old, and this is her 2nd year participating in HMTS. Some of her previous musicals include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Schwarzy) and Les Miserables (Cosette). She is also a member of the Jazz Band, a cappella groups, and runs for the Track and Cross Country Teams. She would like to thank her family for being so supportive throughout the rehearsal process.
HALEY CONSIDINE (Young Judith Van Winkle), a freshman at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, makes her stage debut in Rip Van Winkle. Haley sings in the choir and races on the HVRHS Ski Team. She wants to thank her parents for inspiring her to audition and for supporting her throughout the entire process.
KATHERINE “KATIE” CRANE (Act I Child), a 5th grader at NCES, is very excited to be a part of this year’s HVRHS musical production. She has performed in several musicals, including Happy Holidays, Disney: Stage & Screen, The King and I, The Golden Age of Broadway, Blackboot’s Lost Loot, and Willy Wonka. She loves acro, softball, basketball, soccer, swimming, and skiing. She loves animals and spending time with her family and friends. She would like to thank Mrs. Peppe, Mrs. Merrill, Mr. Berkeley, and her family for their encouragement. “Enjoy the show!”

TIMMY CUNNINGHAM (Rip Van Winkle III), a kindergartner at Salisbury Central, is excited to be making his theater debut with this production. He is currently enrolled in Tae Kwon Do and loves playing soccer, baseball, and any other sport he can. Timmy loves spending time with his family and hanging with his friends.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST (cont’d)MOLLIE FORD (Town Child) is a 5th grade student at North Canaan Elementary. She plays the alto saxophone in her school band. For four years, she has been enrolled and performing with Stepping Stone Performers. She loves acrobatics and dance competitions. She would like to thank her dance instructors, Jean Jaquier and Melissa Pinardi, for believing in her and helping her reach her goals.
MIKAEL GUDMARSSON (Constable Van Schaick), a senior at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, is an exchange student from Iceland. He has been participating in track and field for ten years and hopes to join the Track Team at HVRHS. He is also on the Housatonic Ski Team. Mikael hopes to go to college in the U.S. and to be an actor there. He would like to thank everyone for accepting him in the school society.
MACKENZIE HUNTER (Dame Knickerbocker), a senior at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, is making her first appearance on stage in Rip Van Winkle. She plays Varsity Soccer, Varsity Swimming, and is also President of the Student Government Association. She would like to thank all who helped to push her to try the musical this year and her mom for always supporting her interests.
HANNAH JOHNSON (Town Child), a 5th grader at North Canaan Elementary School, is excited to be returning to HVRHS. She has made several stage appearances in the Northwest Corner including, The King and I (Royal Princess) and Aladdin Jr. (Iago). She sang and danced in Falls Village Children’s Theatre’s Holiday Spectacular. She has worked with Joshua Stone and SongBook World on projects at Music Mountain and Noble Horizons. Hannah wants to thank her family for their support as well as the HVRHS drama students for their kindness.
MADELYN JOHNSON (Town Child), a 5th grader at North Canaan Elementary School, is thrilled to join her sister on the stage at HVRHS for the first time. She has performed with the Falls Village Children’s Theatre as well as North Canaan Drama productions. Maddy is a flutist at NCES and also enjoys soccer and basketball. She would like to thank her parents for their support and her friends for encouraging her to audition.
JASON LAMBERT (Mr. Kellerman), a senior at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, is performing in his second musical for HMTS. His first musical was The King and I. Jason is also in Concert Band, Concert Choir, and Jazz Band.
MADISON LONG (Hendrik Hudson), a freshman, made her HMTS debut in 2013 in Fiddler on the Roof. Since then, she has performed in the Michael Berkeley productions of Divas Do The Best of Divas (2013) and the FVCT Holiday Show (2014). With the NCES Drama Club, she was in Blackboot’s Lost Loot (2017) and Wicked is as Wicked Does (2018). Madison also enjoys horseback riding and spending time with her family. She is very excited to

TABITHA MAFFUCCI (Dame Vedder), a sophomore at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, has performed in several musicals such as last year’s production of The King and I, Peter Pan, Annie, and more. She also enjoys participating on the school’s Swim Team and Volleyball Team. Tabitha would like to thank the cast, crew, and her parents for all the support.
AIDAN McCARTHY (Older Johanna Van Schaick), a sophomore at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, has performed in several shows, including Blackboot’s Lost Loot (Sal), Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Matilda and an Oompa Loompa), and The King and I (Royal Wife). Aidan also plays volleyball and the alto saxophone in her school’s Concert Band. She has participated in several choirs including Chorus Angelicus, (Torrington, Connecticut) and her school’s Night Choir and Sweethearts groups. Aidan would like to thank her family for all of their support.
ALEXA MEACH (Town Child), a 5th grader at North Canaan Elementary School, appears for her second time on stage with the Housatonic Musical Theater Society, having previously been seen in The King and I as one of the Royal Children. Alexa also plays the flute in her school band and loves to sing. She would like to thank her parents for all their wonderful support.
NATALIE NESTLER (Dirk the Gnome), a sophomore at HVRHS, is excited to be be participating in her first HMTS production! She also sings in Night Choir. LUCY OBER (Young Johanna Van Schaick) is a 5th grader at Rumsey Hall School where she will be seen in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this spring. She was thrilled to be in last year’s HMTS’ The King and I (Royal Princess) and has also been in several plays, including The Danville Dodgers, Swamped, Charlotte’s Web and Peter Pan. For the past three years, she has been a part of a summer program in Maine for young actors. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, hockey, and tennis. She also loves to sing and dance. AMBER RAMCHARRAN (Quinten the Gnome), a middle schooler at Salisbury Central School, has performed in multiple musicals and plays starting at the age of six. In addition, Amber plays basketball, piano, and participates in recreational cheerleading. She enjoys singing to her new little sister and is a part of the regional and Salisbury’s chorus groups. Amber would like to thank her family and close friends for supporting her, as well as HMTS for the opportunity to do her first high school production!

OLIVIA ROBSON (Town Child) is a sixth grader at Salisbury Central School. She has performed in several shows including the FVCT Christmas Special and with the FVCT’s summer programs, which really started her passion for theatre. At Salisbury Central School, she played the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. Olivia also enjoys playing soccer, skating, and snowboarding. She is really excited to be a part of the high school musical and hopes to continue theatre in her future.
DEAN SACCARDI (Older Daniel Andersen), a senior at HVRHS, has previously performed in several theater productions including Follies and Visiting Mr. Green; this will be his fourth musical production at Housatonic. Dean is also quite active in Housatonic’s music program, playing saxophone in Concert Band and Jazz Band, as well as singing in Concert Choir, Night Choir, and Heartbreakers. Along with music, Dean also enjoys poetry, is on the Cross Country and Golf Teams, and is a member of the Student Government Association.
ARIEH SAED (Mr. Brinkman/Gnome), a junior, has appeared in The Lion King (Rafiki) at his middle school and in Willy Wonka at The Warner Theater (Torrington, CT). He is on the Swim Team and Academic Bowl Team and plays tuba, drums, and bass guitar. He has acted with Grumbling Gryphons since he was very young, including the roles of Anansi-The Trickster Spider and Mercury in The Myth of Persephone, appearing at the Philadelphia Art Museum, the Hudson River Museum, and more. Arieh enjoys taking part in the lively HMTS productions, now in his third year.
DANIEL SAED (Chaucer) is thrilled to be back with HMTS having been in The Drowsy Chaperone (Gangster 2), The King and I (Phra Alack), as well as Michael Berkeley’s Home for the Holidays at FVCT. He has toured se-nior homes as a singer/ pianist/jokester with his original one-man show, A Kinder’s Gift to the Elders, bringing smiles to seniors throughout the region which comes easily to him thanks to a lifetime performing with Grumbling Gryphons Theater. He is a two-time winner of the CT Young Writers Award for his poetry. He will be playing multiple roles in Cornwall Town Hall Player’s upcoming production of Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play.

He is a Quiz Bowl Champion, an awesome tuba player in both Regional and Jazz Band, and hopes to become a professional soccer player or an actor, or maybe both!
BRANDON SORRELL (Peter Vanderdonk), a sophomore at HVRHS, has helped out with props in NCES plays in the past but has never actually acted in one. In high school, he participates in the FFA, runs cross country, plays tennis, and occasionally plays piano in his spare time. Brandon would like to thank HMTS for allowing him to participate even without prior experience in theater, and would also like to thank his family for encouraging him to do it. “Let’s get this show on the road!”
LAUREN SORRELL (Town Child), a 5th grader at North Canaan Elementary School, has performed in many NCES plays including Blackboot’s Lost Loot (Duck), Willy Wonka (Candy Kid), and the 20th Anniversary production as Rapunzel. She has worked with Songbook World on multiple occasions. She enjoys playing the clarinet, acting, playing sports (especially soccer), and taking care of her animals. MARIJKE STIFFLER (Dame Brinkman) is sad to see her time as a member of the HMTS cast come to a close this year. As a senior, this is her 4th year performing with HMTS, having performed in The King And I (Anna), The Drowsy Chaperone, and Chicago. She is also the Concert Band President and a long-time member of the Jazz Band and Night Choir. She would like to extend her sincerest thanks to Michael, Lori, Pamela, and the rest of the production team for four memorable years! GABRIELA TITONE (Young Judith Van Winkle) or Gabby, is a 6th grader at Salisbury Central School. Previously she performed in the musicals Elf, Cin-derella, The Wizard of Oz, and many musical revues with Michael Berkeley. Her heart lies in dance: Modern, Lyrical, Jazz and Tap, which she has been doing with Heather Holohan for five years. Gabby is very excited to play Judith in Rip Van Winkle.
SARAH UPSON (Lennaert the Gnome) is a sophomore at HVRHS. Last year in The King and I, Sarah played an Amazon. She participates in cross country and tennis. Sarah is also on Class Council and sings in Night Choir, Concert Choir, and Sweethearts. She would like to thank her family for their support and say good luck to the cast and crew of RIP 2019!
DOMINIK VALCIN (Town Child), a 6th grader at Salisbury Central School, has performed in several musicals and plays at SCS, inclu-ding Cinderella (Grand Duke), Musical Milestones (Chef Louis), and Imagine That! (Teddy). He also
performs as a member of the Chorus and Band at SCS and loves skiing, snowboarding, and swimming. He is excited to once again be working with the magnificent Mr. Berkeley, and wants to thank his family for all their support and love.
VINCENT VALCIN (Young Rip Jr.), a 3rd grader at Salisbury Central School, is excited to be making his stage debut in Rip Van Winkle: The Musical. Vincent also loves soccer, skiing, snowboarding, swimming, and riding his bike. He would like to thank his parents and brothers for all of their love and support.
JAYME WALSH (Alina-Rip’s Granddaughter) is a 6th grader at Salisbury Central where she recently starred as Cinderella, She has performed in several other plays including The Wizard of Oz, Musical Milestones, Imagine That, and attended a summer theater camp at the Sharon Playhouse. Jayme is in her 4th year of acro at Stepping Stones and is currently playing basketball for the local rec team. Jayme enjoys spending time with her friends and family and would like to thank her family for all of their support.
BRIANNA WEBB (Dame Van Schaick), a junior, has performed in several musicals, including Annie Get Your Gun (Winnie), The Drowsy Chaperone (Ensemble), and The King and I (Simon of Legree, Wife). Brianna plays field hockey, along with being the Historian of the Student Government Association. She would like to thank her past dance teachers, along with her parents, for their support.
SAVANNAH RELOS (Scenic Designer/Technical Director) has thoroughly enjoyed her first experience with the Housatonic Musical Theatre Society. Orignally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Savannah has moved to Massachusetts after spending two years in Florida with the Florida Repertory Theatre as their Assistant Technical Director. She now works as the Technical Director for the Berkshire Theatre Group. Some of her favorite shows she has worked on include Little Shop of Horrors (BTG), The Mousetrap (Florida Rep) and Deferred Action (Dallas Theater Center).
LUCAS PAWELSKI (Lighting Design), a local Lighting, Scenic, and Sound Designer, returns after designing and serving as TD for The King and I, The Drowsy Chaperone and Chicago. Lucas’ lighting design credits include Pioneer Players’ production of Death and the Maiden as well as designing lights for the past two Opera Workshop performances Hansel and Gretel and Women in Opera. For the 2013 Heartland Festival Season, Lucas was the Lighting Designer and Master Electrician for Fiddler on the Roof and Nunsense. Recently, he was the Master Electrician and Sound Designer for the Timberlake Theater 2014 season and was the lighting designer for Pioneer Players’ The Pillowman. He was the Assistant Master Electrician for the 2015 Summer Season of the Berkshire Theater Group. Lucas is happy to once again be doing the lighting design and would like to thank his wife, Lila, who always knows why.

Amanda graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with her MFA in Scenography in 2016 and is currently the Production Coordinator and Festival Properties Master at Berkshire Theatre Group.
KATHLEEN DEANGELIS (Costume Design), a native of Lakeville and 2002 graduate of Housatonic, is excited to return to Housatonic’s stage as costume designer for this year’s production, after designing costumes for The King and I, The Drowsy Chaperone, Chicago, The Boy Friend, Hello, Dolly!, Fiddler OnTheRoof,SouthPacific, Guys and Dolls, Grease, and Anything Goes. A veteran of TriArts Sharon Playhouse’s program as both a costume intern and Costume Shop Manager, Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus in Theatre from Marist College where she both acted in and designed the costumes for Godspell and The Laramie Project, and served as Costume Designer for Noises Off. In 2008 Kathleen earned her Master of Arts in Theatre from Oklahoma State University where she worked as a Teaching Assistant and Costume Designer for several productions including Romeo and Juliet, Glengarry Glen Ross, Beautiful Child and Sweet Charity. Most recently Kathleen has designed for River Valley Repertory Theatre on their productions of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grille and Fat Pig, as well as County Players’ production of Godspell.
GRAHAM STONE (Sound Design), is thrilled to continue providing sound design for the HMTS! Graham is a graduate of the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College where he studied studio production. He is the owner of Stone Studio LLC, a recording studio and production company he established in Lakeville, CT. BETSY HOWIE (Character Coach/Dramaturge) is a novelist, memoirist and actor who has performed extensively in New York and regionally. She originated the role of Mo in the Off-Broadway hit, Cowgirls, which she also co-authored. She studied with Stella Adler through NYU and subsequently worked as Ms. Adler’s live-in personal assistant. Rip Van Winkle marks her ninth show at HVRHS. She is honored to work with the talented kids and the amazing team of people who make the musical theatre program possible.
JUDI MOORE(Props/BoxOffice)has been involved with local theater in Northwest Connecticut in various capacities for the past forty-nine years. It began with Canaan Little Theater (Gypsy, Plaza Suite, Barefoot in the Park), Housatonic Valley Regional High School faculty productions (Cabaret, SouthPacific,Mame,GuysandDolls), and Oblong Valley Players (Blythe Spirit, Arsenic and Old Lace). Previous theatre experience includes having served in various roles at TriArts Sharon Playhouse, including Executive Director and Producer, and independent producing projects, including Michael Berkeley’s Diva productions (the Divas return to the Sharon Playhouse this summer!), No Tune Like A Show Tune at Music Mountain (2014-2019) and the Center for the Performing Arts at Rhinebeck (2016, 2017), and Rip! The Musical at the Center for the Performing Arts at Rhinebeck. She is especially excited to see Rip Van Winkle: The Musical come to life on the HVRHS stage; it is a project she has believed in for many years. She thanks the dedicated students, supportive parents, and the amazingly talented HMTS creative team for always making this a very gratifying collaboration, and her husband, Jared Zelman, for his enthusiastic and unwavering support.
AMBER CAMERON (Choreographer) is happy to reunite with the HMTS family and be a part of Rip Van Winkle: The Musical. Amber had the pleasure of working with Michael Berkeley, Pamela Chassin, and Lori Belter on The King and I, The Drowsy Chaperone, Chicago, Hello, Dolly!, Fiddler On the Roof, The Boy Friend, Rip! The Musical, and on two Diva productions. Amber has been a professional dancer for the last 13 years and has been fortunate to have toured nationally with CATS, Crazy For You, and Funny Girl. She also performed for seven years as a Rockette in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall and many other cities across the U.S. Since moving to Falls Village in 2009, she has performed at the Warner Theater as Lola in Damn Yankees, and in multiple productions at TriArts Sharon Playhouse. In 2016, Amber and her husband Luke welcomed twins Ruby and Kassell into their family. Many thanks to Michael, Pamela, and Lori for the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing show, and a special thanks to all performers for their hard work and talent.
LORI J. BELTER (Production Stage Manager/Assistant Director) is responsible for revitalizing the musical theatre program at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. A graduate herself of HVRHS, she is thrilled to be bringing back to the stage the programming that she enjoyed as a student. Lori was one of the founding members of TriArts, where she served on the Board as President for many years. She has appeared in numerous productions on the TriArts stage, including: Anything Goes (Hope Harcourt), The Music Man (Marian Paroo), A Chorus Line (Sheila), Cabaret (Fraulein Kost), Chicago (Hunyak), The Full Monty (Pam), and The Wedding Singer (Angie); at the Warner Theatre, including: A Chorus Line (Maggie) and Carousel (Carrie Pipperidge); and at the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck as Dame Van Winkle in Rip! The Musical. Most recently, she and Michael Berkeley directed/choreographed The Music Man at the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck. In her spare time, she is a realtor with Best & Cavallaro and serves as a volunteer EMT for the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service.
WHO’S WHO (cont’d)MICHAEL BERKELEY (Director/Musical Director/Conductor) brings many years of musical theatre experience to the Housatonic Musical Theatre Society. As an Equity actor, he has appeared on stages across the country; as a musical director/conductor, his credits include regional theatre, cruise ships, industrial shows, and national tours (including Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond). He served as Resident Musical Director (1990-1999) and Artistic Director (1999-2012) of TriArts Sharon Playhouse where he directed/musical directed more than 40 musicals. As a composer/lyricist/arranger, he has three published musicals: two youth musicals, Imagine That! and Off The Wall, licensed through Miracle Or 2 Theatrical Licensing, (miracleor2.com) and the Irving Berlin revue, I Love A Piano (co-created with Ray Roderick), part of the Rodgers & Hammerstein library (rnh.com). Rip Van Winkle: The Musical has been in development for several years and Michael is particularly thrilled to see it brought to life on the HVRHS stage. His next project is bringing Divas back to the Sharon Playhouse this summer.
