Home renovations can be a scary thing. Where does this go? How does that fi t there? Why do I have all these extra pieces?
But thanks to the friendly, knowledgeable staff at Manotick Home Hardware, those and many other questions can easily be answered.
Owner Michael Mirsky says, “Home Hardware is service oriented. We carry things that big box stores don’t. Basically, anything they can sell, we can sell. It’s customer service, customer service, customer service.”
Managing for about 22 years, Mirsky has become very attuned to his business fi nding ways to get it through even today’s tough economy.
“We’re making smaller sales. For example, people aren’t buying big lawn mowers right now,” he says.
“But there are homeowners who never used to do it themselves now doing it themselves to save money.”
According to him, the trick to keep customers coming back even during an economic downturn is to match and beat whatever the competition is offering.
“I think we go over and above what the, quote unquote, big chains will do,” he says. “We have products [customers] can’t fi nd elsewhere and we break it down instead of selling bulk. As well, we’ve built up relationships over the years. I deal with customers daily and I enjoy that.”
When he learned that his store had received the top Readers’ Choice award for a hardware store, he was pleased.
“It was nice to receive recognition,” he says. “If we made people happy then that’s a good thing.”

Mr. Lube’s commitment to providing cus-tomers with fast, convenient, warranty-approved service for their vehicles has re-sulted in a Diamond Award for Best Oil & Lube by the readers of Barrhaven/Ottawa South This Week.
“We believe that providing customers with the best service possible is critical to our long-term success,” says Francois Trudel. Trudel and his wife, Kellie, own the Bar-rhaven, Kanata and Orleans Mr. Lube lo-cations and have been franchisees since 1992.
“Customers request and receive the ser-vice they want from the comfort of their own vehicle and at a time that is conven-ient to them, seven days a week. With no appointment necessary, convenient and ef-fi cient service sets us apart from our com-petitors.”
The company has built itself on this phil-osophy from the very beginning. Back in 1976, Edmonton-based founder Clifford Giese realized there had to be a quicker, more convenient way to get oil changes and other vehicle maintenance services, rather than dealing with the time and has-sle of making an appointment. In so doing,
Giese not only launched a great Canadian company, but also invented an entirely new service category – the quick lube.
Thirty-four years later, with over 34 million customers served; Mr. Lube has evolved from Canada’s largest quick lube brand to a complete preventive maintenance service provider. Today, with over 100 lo-cations coast-to-coast, including seven in the Capital Region, and more opening every year, they have more customers and more locations than any other automotive maintenance services provider in the coun-try, making it easy to stop by for your next service.
Customers visiting any Mr. Lube location can be assured they will receive the same great service with each and every visit. Open seven days a week and until 8pm on weeknights, Mr. Lube is the preferred choice of the Barrhaven/Ottawa South This Week readers.

Trigger’s Taekwon-Do would like to say thank you to all the people who voted for us as the Reader’s Choice Award Winning Martial Arts Club! Thanks to your votes, we won Diamond in Nepean and Gold in Barrhaven! We are thrilled to thank our clients and hope we can continue being an award winner in your eyes! Ms. Kathy Trigger started Taekwon-Do in 1987. She opened her school in 1994 in Bells Corners and in 2003 opened a school in Barrhaven. Her reputation as an outstanding children’s instructor is known throughout the community she serves. Her dedication to chil-dren in Taekwon-Do is founded on her 16 years as a daycare professional. Throughout her career, Kathy was a repeat gold medalist in provincial and
national competitions. She represented Women’s Power Breaking at the World Championships in Malaysia in 1994 and Women’s Sparring at the World Championships in Russia in1997. Kathy believes that part of her school’s success is due to the fl exibility in the training schedule. Classes are available both evenings and weekends and al-low you to train up to 4 times a week around your family’s schedule. Taekwon-Do promotes constant and never-ending improvement in one’s physical, mental, and spiritual development. It provides the student with the means and method to gain con-fi dence (while challenging one’s limits) and at the same time, the achievement of goals.

In travel, experience is the difference. Barrhaven Travel and Cruise Centre has been open in the Chap-man Mills Marketplace Mall in Barrhaven for more than fi ve years. The business is owned and oper-ated by Bytown Travel, the longest-serving privately owned travel agency in Ottawa. “When we looked at expanding, we looked at Barrhaven,” said Executive Vice President Dave Davidson. “Barrhaven was one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, and we felt that there was room for a good, solid travel company.” Davidson said that having the experience of Bytown Travel behind them quickly led to success. Barrhaven Travel has experienced steady growth since they opened their doors in August, 2004, and they are coming off a banner year. Barrhaven Travel
and Cruise Centre has experienced staff with exper-tise in everything from group travel, custom travel itineraries to packages and cruises. Davidson states “Our staff members all have at least 15 years experi-ence, that is what gives us a competitive advantage. Our knowledge lets the customer know and trust that every detail is taken care of, and that they don’t have to worry about a thing.” He also added “Knowing the destinations, resorts and cruise ships is a real plus for our clients. They can be assured that we’ll help them fi nd the perfect vacation that suits their needs, budget and lifestyle.” Visit Barrhaven Travel and Cruise Centre in the Barrhaven Chapman Mills Marketplace Mall or call them at (613) 823-4700.
Experience sets Barrhaven Travel apart
Rideau Carleton Raceway is known throughout the region as having the fi nest buffet available and those in Barrhaven/Ottawa South can test-ify to that having voted, once again, a Diamond Award for just that. Jean-Claude Bertin, the food and beverage director puts it simply “It’s good quality food for the price. The value is there and people are looking for a good value”. With the low price of only $9.99 Monday to Wednesday you cannot go wrong and from Thursday to Sunday they step it up a notch with even more choices for only $19.99. The Saturday night Sea-food and Prime Rib buffet is an experience all its own and if you have not been yet, you are
missing out. Open seven days a week for break-fast, lunch and dinner, you have the option of watching the horse racing while you dine three evenings a week, or enjoying the SLOTS which are now open 24 hours daily. And, should you feel the desire for something different, the new Bingo Parlour will keep you smiling and win-ning 7 days a week, from morning till night. If you have a special occasion or get together, they can accommodate almost any sized group in style. For more information, or to reserve your group, call today at 613-822-2211 or visit www.rcentertainmentcentre.ca

Thank you for voting us the Gold Award Winning
Landscaping in Barrhaven

Dr. Frederick W. Warren would like to welcome Dr. Brian Martyniuk to the Warren Clinic of Chiropractic.
Dr. Martyniuk graduated from Simon Fraser Univer-sity in British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. After university, he worked as a sport rehabilitation therapist and personal trainer.
He then attended Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) and took part in outside courses that included Active Release Techniques (ART); Motion Palpation Institute (MPI) workshops, and Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT).
Dr. Martyniuk moved to the United Kingdom and practiced for two years in London, before coming to Ottawa. With his background in functional rehabilitation, Dr. Martyniuk incor-porates Chiropractic care with active exercises and education to treat and prevent re-oc-currences. He uses an extensive range of techniques including Active Release Techniques because he believes it is important to customize the treatment to each individual patient.
Dr. Martyniuk joined our offi ce in April 2010 and we hope to see him continue his Chiropractic care with us well into the future!

The Orchard View Wedding and Conference Centre continues to innovate and expand to meet the changing needs of corporate and government clients in search of an alternative to downtown meeting and special event venues. Orchard View offers the amenities one would expect of a full-ser-vice facility, but situated on 40 acres of beautifully landscaped private property. The grounds feature bridges, waterfalls, gazebos and a private lake. The professional and prompt support staff and Coordin-ators pride themselves on thinking outside the box and taking care of all details to provide clients with a memorable experience and peace of mind. Each client’s event benefi ts from a team approach to ensure continuity and regular communication. “If
you think it, we can likely accommodate it,” says Coordinator Elise Schmitz. “From team-building events based on TV shows such as Amazing Race, CSI and The Apprentice, to having a helicopter land here last month, were always trying to make the most of our facilities for our clients’ benefi t.” Onsite recreational activities include a soccer fi eld, lawn bowling, tennis, volleyball, paddle boating and a horseshoe pit. But while Orchard View has earned its status as a venue of choice for high-level gov-ernment and corporate clients, it remains the cost effective option for events of a more festive and so-cial nature, including weddings, birthdays, anniver-saries, retirement and Christmas parties.
