This is a two hour creative writing workshop based on a selection of paintings and objects from Cannon Hall. It has been devised by and led by a published author Lynda Waterhouse reflecting the new national curriculum guidelines for writing. The sessions for Key Stage Two are based on three themes (to choose one) inspired by the collection: People and Nature; Myths and Mysteries; and the new theme Glitz and Glamour which focuses on a variety of aspects of life of the 1700s residents of Cannon Hall revealed to us by the objects they left behind.
The pupils are taken on a tour of the Hall focusing on objects and paintings that will stimulate their writing. They are also encouraged to voice opinions, ask questions and enhance their vocabulary as they fill up their writers’ notebook with ideas and some starting points for the completion of finished pieces.
Mark the global commemoration of the First World War with us. We will be offering workshops that explore the real stories of Barnsley soldiers, the impact of war and the objects brought back from war, now kept in our military museum collections. We will launch our new First World War sessions during this week, permanent resources that can be used by schools at any time from Christmas term 2014 onwards.
Love to find out new things and investigate the world? Take part in a range of science related workshops ranging from tours of our newly renovated Newcomen Beam engine, to natural materials, object and art conservation, to guided walks around our parks with the Ranger team.
