Georgia, 30 other states seeking delay in water rule

Chief lawyers of 31 states, including Georgia, are asking the Environmental Protection Agency to delay a new clean-water rule that has drawn intense opposition from farmers and developers. Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens and his counterparts are seeking a nine-month delay in implementation of the so-called “Waters of the United States” rule, citing a number of pending legal challenges. Georgia Sues Website For Publishing State’s Annotated Laws The state of Georgia filed a lawsuit against the owner of the website, Public.Resource.org, for publishing the annotated version of the Georgia State code online. The owner of the website, Carl Malamud, argues these notes to the law should be free and accessible to the public. (Ga Trend)

Beer industry crafts $7.5 billion economic impact in Georgia The U.S. beer industry annually contributes $7.5 billion to the Peach State’s economy and is connected to 49,051 local jobs, according to a recent economic impact study. “The study shows that the industry generates 49,051 jobs in Georgia -- accounting for more than $2 billion in wages and benefits,” the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) and the Beer Institute reported. “The industry also contributed $1 billion in the form of business, personal and consumption taxes in 2014.” (Ga Trend)

UGA receives $1.1 million grant to support first-generation and low-income students University of Georgia has received a $1.1 million U.S. Department of Education grant to help support first-generation and college students from low-income families. UGA will receive funding beginning in September, distributed over the next five years under the Federal TRIO’s Student Support Services Program. (Ga Trend)

Georgia eases teacher testing rules, for now Georgia public school students won’t have to take as many tests in the upcoming school year, the state Department of Education announced Monday. Specifically, schools won’t have to administer as many so-called “Student Learning Objectives” tests, or SLOs, State School Superintendent Richard Woods announced. (Ga Trend)

Nathan Deal gives Georgia gambling supporters an opening Gov. Nathan Deal is still staunchly opposed to the expansion of gambling in Georgia. But he cracked the door open to another route that could pave the way for the first casinos in Atlanta. In an interview Monday, he hinted that he may not veto legislation needed to operate the casinos if a convincing majority of Georgia voters back the expansion in a 2016 ballot referendum. He probably won’t sign it either, he said, but his John Hancock may not be needed after all. (Ga Trend)

George Washington doesn’t live here anymore

Among the most poignant problem America faces today is that George Washington doesn’t live there anymore. Washington went out when they turned off the lights taking altruism, patriotism, persistence, decency and honesty with him, and his kind has been replaced with career politicians willing to rip off America for everything for which she stands, if only to get into the public trough.

The ideal of George Washington is gone with the wind; an ideal replaced by politicians who lie, steal, fundamentally transform, and ones who gain and keep public office by pandering to the same ‘minorities’ they create.

Like a plague that keeps going the rounds, the worst of the latter day politicians (Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush) keep coming back. They keep coming back because they have the ego, the greed and the money to do so.

The current occupant of the White House will never go away now that he’s put in place a first-of-its-kind database legacy that tracks all Americans from birth to death.

George Washington doesn’t live there anymore because he’s history and history doesn’t live in America anymore either, history being revised, rewritten, and like the Confederate flag, replaced by the driving political scheme of the moment.

The bold and the brash of the current crop of politicians will go to any length to rewrite the script of the glorious past—even dig up a general and his wife from the graves where they were laid to rest in Christian burial.

Why would politicians respect the dead when they don’t even respect the living?

All torture by politicians isn’t of the barbed-wired camp kind. There’s the more subtle and searing torture of the soul like forcing a wait of five days to lower Washington and federal flags to half-staff following the slaughter of four marines and one sailor at Chattanooga. What better way to defile the honor of the fallen than by delaying them the final respects that come from their country’s lowered flags?

No, George Washington doesn’t live in America anymore. But unless We the People can find someone of his kind to return, they are doomed as Amerika.

Zimbabwean charged over killing of Cecil the lionHWANGE, Zimbabwe, July 29 (Reuters) - A Zimbabwean court on Wednesday charged a professional hunter with failing to prevent an American from unlawfully killing ‘Cecil’, the southern African country’s best-known lion, in a case that has triggered widespread revulsion at trophy hunting.

The American, Walter James Palmer, a Minnesota dentist who paid $50,000 to kill the lion, has left Zimbabwe. He says he did kill the animal but believed the hunt was legal and that the necessary permits had been issued.Cecil was fitted with a GPS collar for a research project by scientists

from Oxford University and was one of the oldest and most famous in Zimbabwe.

The university’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit said it had been tracking Cecil since 2008 and was “deeply saddened” by his death.

“Insofar as this happened illegally we consider it deeply reprehensible,” it said in a statement. It was working closely with Zimbabwe’s National Parks authorities to support their “meticulous work” in prosecuting the case.

The unit also said Cecil’s death would be likely to trigger a power struggle in the pride, resulting in the death of other male lions as well as Cecil’s offspring.

“When a male lion is killed, because of the way their society works, a likely consequence is the overthrow and death of other adult male members of his weakened coalition, and the subsequent infanticide of his cubs,” it said.

Palmer’s hunting has attracted scrutiny in the past. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to lying to a U.S. wildlife agent about a black bear he killed in Wisconsin two years before.

He was accused of killing it 40 miles outside a permitted zone, hauling the carcass back into the approved area and certifying falsely that it was killed there. He was sentenced to one year probation and fined $2,938.

In the Hwange case, Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force chairman Johnny Rodrigues said Cecil was lured out of the park with bait before being shot.

The incident has triggered fierce debate over the commercial ‘trophy’ hunting of African big game.

Like many countries, Zimbabwe issues annual permits that allow foreign hunters to kill wildlife such as elephant, buffalo and lion legally, arguing that the funds raised allow the government to fund conservation efforts.

“Sustainable trophy hunting is part of well-managed wildlife conservation. It creates incentives for people to look after wildlife,” said Adri Kitshoff, chief executive of the Professional Hunters’ Association of South Africa.

“It’s easy to fall into the trap of emotions and not focus on facts.”

However, Edward Bourke, chairman of the Australia-based Saving The Lion Foundation, said Cecil’s death showed the dangers of legal hunting.

“There is enough global pressure to push for change. There is an opportunity to offer alternatives, including international aid for establishing safe haven environments like national parks or eco-tourism zones,” he said.

One of the few countries to avoid Cecil hysteria was Zimbabwe, where most people are more preoccupied with putting food on the table and finding work in an economy suffering 80 percent unemployment.

“Congratulations” is a word of encouragement that we all enjoy hearing. Being recognized for any of our accomplishments means that someone has noticed what we have done. It usually brings us feelings of worth and value, importance and significance. Often we swell with pride saying, “Look at me! I’m someone special.” When things had finally stabilized in David’s life he paused briefly and rejoiced by saying, “He put a new song in my heart.” This was not the first time that God heard and answered his prayers. God had delivered him many times - perhaps more times than he could ever remember. And this may not necessarily have been a new song. It could have been one that he sang many times before. Thanksgiving and praise were a central part of his life. Recognizing God’s goodness is a

predominant theme in the Psalms. But “a new song in his mouth, a new hymn of praise.” What could this possibly mean? All too often we take God’s goodness for granted. We expect His deliverance from “messy” situations. We expect Him to heal us when we are sick, we expect Him to provide for our financial needs, we expect Him to be with us when we travel. And He is. And He does guide and guard us and give us what we need. And we express our thanks. Usually. But every time God does protect us and provide for our needs is a new act of deliverance. Each day is a new day and each gift a new gift because we have never been where we are today. It’s all new!

Instructions Place the chuck roast in the bottom of a slow cooker. Turn cooker to low. Pour apple juice over meat. Liberally pepper meat then top with both seasoning mixes.
