First of all, I would like to welcome our fans back to The Hive. It was nice to have our first home friendly.

We’ve had a behind closed doors game and we had the away fixture at Berkhamsted which we took a good following so thank you for that.

I’m pleased that the boys are working very hard in training; they’re all buying into what we believe we need to do to be better than last season.

Shaq took a little niggle on Saturday but other than that I’ve got an empty physio room which has been a rarity, even before my time here. That can only be seen as a plus.

Josh Walker is back in full training which is another plus. For the opening day of the season, I want everyone available – that’s my number one target. We welcome Crystal Palace this evening and you can’t get away from the fact that once

the whistle goes in a match, your natural instinct to win comes into play.

Quite naturally, you want to create winning habits and a winning mentality but I honestly just want to come through the game with no injuries and I want everyone to get some good work into their legs.

At the minute there’s one or two that played 90 minutes and one or two that have played a little bit more than 45.

That will slowly progress as we get further into pre-season but first and foremost it’s about sharing the minutes around and making sure everyone gets some good leg work done tomorrow.

Enjoy the match and#LetsBeeTogether

Darren

I’d like to wish our fans a warm welcome back to The Hive.

It was good to be back on the pitch and there was good support there from both teams against Wycombe and it was really nice to be back in front of the home fans again.

Just under three weeks now until the season starts, and we can start picking things up a bit now.

If we’d have had a few more bodies I might not have got the 90 minutes against Wycombe, but it was good and my legs felt fit.

Over the 90 minutes against Wycombe, we deserved to get the win even though the results aren’t the most important thing at the minute.

A performance like that gives us all huge confidence going forward and if it wasn’t for the late, late equaliser, we’d be coming away with another win.

A result against Palace this evening can give us a lot of confidence due to the level that they’re playing at.

Their standard is what we need to be aiming for and if we can put in a positive performance along with a result to match that, it’s only positive for the team.

The signing of Scott Loach has been massive. He’s added a presence and a voice behind the defenders and due to the amount of experience he’s got, it can only be a good thing for the team and for me personally playing in front of him.

Hopefully he’s not too busy this season but when he’s been called upon, he’s done

well!

Come on you Bees!

The London Bees appointed Lee Burch as their new manager over the summer break, as the club look to embark on a successful 2019/20 campaign.

The Bees finished 8th in the FA Women’s Championship last season and Burch will be looking to improve with a higher finish this time out.

The former Yeovil Town Women’s boss was delighted to join the club and highlighted how the impressive facilities at The Hive London as one of the main reasons he took the job.

Burch said “The facilities here are superb, it is a great place to play football and it was one of my favourite places to come as an away manager, because of how great the facilities are here at The Hive.”

“It massively helps when attracting new players as well, people want to come and play football at a facility like this. I am ready to make The Hive a home for any new players, as well as the existing squad here.”

The London Bees boss also highlighted how he hopes the Women’s World Cup will inspire more people to come down to The Hive and take in a game of Women’s football.

“The World Cup was a brilliant tournament, not just for the commercial side of the game but the technical side too. Everyone enjoyed the World Cup and the Lionesses did a superb job at inspiring so many”

“Now it’s all about getting as many people down to The Hive and all of the grounds in the WSL and Championship to see their local teams. 11 million watched that game against USA, if a small proportion of that come to watch games it is going to be brilliant for the growth of the game.”

The Bees kick off their FA Women’s Championship season with a London derby with London City Lionesses on Sunday August 18th, so why not come down and cheer on London Bees as they begin a new era!

CLUB AUTHOR DAYWednesday 2nd July 2019 saw us host our second Club Author Day which was supported by the Premier League. Sixty students from both Camrose Primary School and St. Paul’s C of E Primary School visited the Hive and experienced both an active literacy lesson delivered by our very own Foundation coaches and an author’s workshop which was delivered by Michaela Morgan, a British children’s author and poet who has written over 150 titles to date.

MASCOTSIf you are interested in being a match-day mascot for Barnet FC during the 2019/20 season, you can register your interest by contacting Matthew Dixon on 020-8381-3800 (Ext. 1040) / [email protected]

The visiting students then had lunch along with a tour of the Hive Stadium before attending their very own press conference where they had the opportunity to ask lots of questions to the author and to some players. They were also given a matchday programme from our historic FA Cup match versus Brentford FC last season and an autograph book each to take away along with a copy of ‘Respect’ written by Michaela Morgan.

Hodgson’s career has come full circle, with the Croydon native starting it as a member of the Palace youth side before being released in 1965 having not reached the first-team.

A modest non-league playing career combined with teaching PE followed, before his big break in the coaching world came in 1976 when his former manager at Maidstone United, Bob Houghton, recommended him to Swedish side Halmstad. Hodgson would prove to be a success, transforming the club’s fortunes by winning two championships in five years.

He would have short stints in England and Sweden before tasting further glory in the form of five more Swedish titles and two Swedish Cups with Malmö during the late 1980s. A stint as manager of Swiss side Neuchâtel Xamax followed before he was handed the country’s national team job in 1992, guiding them to the 1994 World Cup and Euro ‘96.

After two years with Inter Milan, he had his first crack at the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1997 before spells at Grasshopper Zurich, FC Copenhagen, – where he won a Danish league title – Udinese, Viking and the national teams of the UAE and Finland came during the next decade.

He returned to English football at Fulham in December 2008, and he would steer them to their highest-ever finish of seventh place, earning a spot in the Europa League. Hodgson amazingly took the Cottagers all the way to the final, where they were defeated by Atletico Madrid in extra-time.

He gained further experience in the Premier League at Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion before being named England manager ahead of Euro 2012. They reached the quarter-finals of that competition before securing places at both the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016, and would win 33 of his 56 games in charge of his country.

At the start of the decade, the future of Crystal Palace Football Club remained in serious doubt. Administrators were all set to liquidate the club if the purchase of Selhurst Park was not agreed by 1st June 2010, and as the news circulated, some fans gathered at the ground to protest the day before, while around 250 supporters made the trip outside the London headquarters of Lloyds Bank, where a do-or-die meeting was taking place between the bank and a consortium, headed by Steve Parish, named CPFC2010.

At the eleventh hour, the club was lifted out of administration and Parish, along with Stephen Browett, Martin Long and Jeremy Hosking, were hailed as heroes. Their first step was to appoint George Burley as manager, with Dougie Freedman continuing in the role of assistant.

Burley’s reign lasted barely six months though, before a 3-0 loss at Millwall on New Year’s Day 2011 proved to be his final game in charge. Club legend Freedman was promoted as manager and he secured Palace’s Championship survival, before the following season taking his side to the League Cup semi-finals, which included a shock win at Old Trafford against Manchester United. However, the run ended cruelly as Cardiff City edged past Palace on penalties in the final four.

Although they missed out on Wembley that year, Palace were destined to reach England’s national stadium at the end of a rollercoaster 2012/13 campaign. A scintillating 14-match unbeaten run established the Eagles among the Championship front-runners before Freedman left the club for Bolton Wanderers, leaving Ian Holloway to take the hot seat. The Bristolian guided Palace into the play-offs to set up a two-legged meeting with arch-rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

The first match finished in a 0-0 stalemate in SE25, but on a memorable night at the Amex Stadium, Palace overcame the odds to triumph 2-0 thanks to a Wilfried Zaha brace which set up a play-off final meeting with Watford. On a dramatic day at Wembley, an extra-time penalty from Kevin Phillips gave Palace a 1-0 victory and ensured Premier League football for the first time in eight seasons.

Having never managed to stay in the division before and spending Christmas in the relegation zone, the Eagles’ form in the second half of the campaign saw them finish in 11th place under Tony Pulis and achieve a second successive season in the Premier League for the first time ever. Following Alan Pardew’s appointment as manager after Neil Warnock departed, they went one better in 2014/15 and finished the campaign in the top half of the table in 10th spot.

In December 2015 it was announced that Americans David Blitzer and Josh Harris had invested in the club, making up a new ownership structure alongside chairman Parish, and that season ended with the Eagles once again returning to Wembley, this time in the FA Cup. The semi-final brought about a match with Watford which Palace won 2-1, and once again they would come across a familiar foe when they took on Manchester United in the final, but they were beaten 2-1 after extra-time to finish runners-up for a second time.

The following campaign saw Pardew dismissed just before Christmas with Palace’s Premier League status in jeopardy, but survival specialist Sam Allardyce came in and managed to beat the drop once again, to seal the Eagles’ spot in the top-flight for a record fifth successive season.

Today sees Roy Hodgson at the helm of the club, with the Eagles currently competing in their sixth consecutive top-flight season.
