Dear Mayor Larson and Members of the Borough Council,

The Barnegat Light Taxpayers’ Association would like to share with you the preliminary results of our

survey on the Coast Guard property, which was part of the 2016 BLTA annual membership drive and

survey.

Some key points:

We wanted to share this information as quickly as possible, since plans are underway for

property modifications.

Respondents were permitted to express their own thoughts on what they would like to see in

that space.

We included comments from all residents’, not just members. There were over 10 non-

members who contributed.

At the end of March we received over 353 responses to our 2016 survey.

167 (51%) of the residents/taxpayers who responded commented on the Coast Guard property.

We will publish the entire survey results in June and present it to our membership at our June

General Meeting. We will also share that final tabulation with you at the June Council

Meeting.

353 residents/taxpayers have responded to date

327 of those residents/taxpayers (almost 93%) answered at least one survey question

167 (51%) of the residents/taxpayers who responded to at least one question commented on the Coast Guard property

COAST GUARD PROPERTY USAGE SUGGESTIONS

Comments related to: Park/Garden/Open Space - 108 comments/65%

Park – 26 add’l mentions not listed individually Open Space – 8 add’l mentions Open Space. Pay down the debt without raising taxes

Community Garden – 10 add’l mentions Area for seating and relaxation. Park with benches for picnics

Nicely landscaped with trees Park with shade trees Keep it quiet and quaint as is Barnegat Light

Park. Keep the Tennis Courts. Park for sitting, viewing flowers, serenity. Don't want lots of people and noise. Community Garden (Mr. Walker proposal)

Low Maintenance Park. Grass, trees, bushes.

Passive Recreation Open Space Park. Something for children Park. Community gatherings

Green park to sit, with parking at periphery reserved for park users. Town already has a lot - recreation area, dog park and gazebo

Make it a dog park. Return the Softball field to the ballplayers

Natural Garden with Picnic and Playground area

Park for relaxing in, with benches and trees Make this the dog park and turn the baseball field back to what it was

Park. Benches and nice landscaping.

Park. Survey the residents on what they would like to have in the park

Open Space Green Area with Dog Park located in one corner. Current dog park has no place in a residential area as people do not obey rules for hours
