    Barker Lodge was granted dispensationFrom the GrandLodgeof Kentuckyon June22, 1843 Instituted July 6, 1843. ChartergrantedAugust 29, 1843. OrganizedOctober7, 1843 with the following officers: T. D.Geohegan,Worshipful Master; H. F. Able,Senior Warden; S. B. Thomas,Junior War-den; Albert Torrence, Treasurer; J. H.Thomas, Secretary; Isaac Carrico, SeniorDeacon, Thos Neill, Junior Deacon; S. H.Potts, Stewardand Tiler.

    Barker Lodge hasbeenin continuousex-istence except for a time during the CivilWar It is not known whetherit wasactiveor not during this period as there were noreturns made to the Grand Lodge at thistime.

    The lodge hashad 64 mastersduring itsexistence Thirteen have served a total of53 yearswhile 51 haveservedone each.

    Thosewho servedmore thanoneyear areas follows J. R. Kelly, nine years; S. H.Jenkins, eight years; V. P. Armstrong, sixyears; J G Brashearand A. E. Burchiel,five years each; John Smith, three years;and3. D. Fisher, D C Pusey,B. K. Lewis.F. R. Lord, W. H. Thompson,andW E. Bal-linger two yearseach.

    The years with the largest increase inmembershipare as follows: 1912 and 1920,2’? each; 1910 with 20. and 1918 with 18There were no new members during thefollowing years 1877, 1883, 1884, 1888, 1891,1930, 1931, and 1935.

    Our hall was built on its present sitearound 1911 or 1912. The original buildingwas destroyed by fire in February, 1927,with all of our equipment.

    At the time of the fire we hadinsuranceof $8,000on the building and the contents.

    The presentbuilding was built in 1927 ata cdst of $8,200not including the equipment.

    the flood in 1937 did quite a lot of damageto our presentbuilding but we were soOnback readyfor business.

    Our presentmembership is 213 and thelodgeis quite active with the following offi-cers Curtis W. Smith, Worshipful Master;Robert Gammon, Senior Warden; VirgilPreston, Junior Warden; E. L. Reeser,Treasurer,Wm J. Jones,Secretary; RussellMcSeveny, Senior Deacon; Louie Warren,Junior Deacon; Thomas Howey, SeniorSteward;Robert E. Goodman,Junior Stew-ard; Pryor Kitterman, Tiler.

    F. & A. M.

    AR~LCLE 1—This lodge shall be knownas Barker Lodge No. 129, F.&A.M.

    ARTICLE Il—The regular meetingsshallbe held on the secondand fourth Satur-days of each month and on St. John theEvangelist, and St. John the Baptist days,exceptwhen they fall on Sunday; then themeetingshall be held on the day before.

    The clock time of the opening of eachmeetingshall be 7:30 p. m. prevailing localtime.

    ARTICLE Ill—The following officers shallbe elected by a majority of all votescastandfor a periodof oneyear; the Worship-ful Master, the Senior Warden, the JuniorWarden, the Secretary,and the Treasurer.When more than two candidatesare nomi-natedfor’Lhe sameoffice andone doesnotgeta majority of voteson the secondballot,the onewith the smallernumbershall dropout. This shall continue until one receivesa majority.

    ARTTCLJE IV — The regular election ofofficers shall be held on St. John’s Day,December27, except as follows: When De-cemberfalls on a Sunday the electionshallbe held on December26 or December28.

    ARTICLE V—The following officers shallbe appointed by the Master and selectedwith the assistanceof the other electedofficers: Senior Deacon, Junior Deacon,Senior Steward,Junior Steward,Tiler andChaplain Their term shal] be jar oneyear.

    ARTICLE VI 17 ii c Worshipful Mastermay call a meeting at ldtj pleasure, butmust call one upon the rcqucst of eightMaster Monon member:;, All or sufficient

    number shal] have due and timely notice.ARTICLE WI—Failure to hold a meeting

    for a period of longer than three monthsshall be reportedto the GrandSecretarybythe Worshipful Master and Secrebary.

    ARTICLE VIII Nominations s h a 11 bemade from the floor andthe brother mak-ing the nomination shall be recognizedbythe Master Any brother who may wish todeclinehis nomination may do so but mustdo it before the nominationsare closed.Allnominationsmust receivea second. A mo-tion to closethe nominationsmay be madeby any brother about the lodge, providedhe has beenrecognized by the Master. Allsecqndsfor the above nominationsor mo-tions shall be recognized by the Master.After the motion to close the nominationshas beenseconded,the Worshipful Mastershall ask for a vote of the lodge on themotion

    ARTICLE IX—The Master shall decideavoice vote, but if any brother should re-questa count vote the Maser shall requestthe same.

    ARTICLE X—The Master’svoice shall de-cide a tie, but in no caseshall he havetwovotes

    ARTICLE XI—The duesshall be $3.50 peryear plus current Grand Lodge dues andvssessmentspayable on or before January1 of the current year. The yearly duesshallbe pro-rated as follows:

    January 1 to March 31 Grand Lodgeduesplus $3 50April 1 to June 30 Grand Lodge duesplus $1.75.July 1 to September30 Grand Lodgeduesplus ‘75cOctober 1 to December30 $3.75.

  • The Secretaryshall notify each memberby April 1 of his indebtednessand if thedelinquent fails to pay dues and indebted-nessin conformity to the notice, the lodgemay suspendhim by a majority vote ofthose present if the indebtednessbe onefull year’s dues.]f the indebtednessbe twofull years’ dues,he shall be automaticallysuspended.However, it a satisfactoryreasonbe given for the delinquencythe lodgemaye,~cusehim by a three-quartervote of thosepresenb.In either case,the action shall benotedin the minutes.It shall not be neces-sary to go through the formality of a trialother than as stated in Sections 153, 154and 155 of the Constitution.

    ART ECLE XII— All business s h a11 betransactedin the MasterMason degreeex-cept as noted.

    Voting on proficiency of candidatesshallbe by voice vote, andmay be in the degreeIn which the examinationtakesplace or inthe neKt higher degree.

    Every memberpresentshall ballot unlessexcusedby the lodge accordingto Regula-tions 426 and427.

    ARTECLE XIII — All businessbefore thelodgeshall be decided by a majority of allvotes cast except in casesotherwise pro-vided for.

    ART ECLJE XIV—The Master shall decideany questionnot covered by the Constitu-tion or By-Laws and his decisionshall befinal unless revoked by the Grand Lodgeor the Grand Master.

    ARTICLE XV—Tbe lodge shall have thefollowing standing committeescomposedasfollows:

    Building Committee, composed of threeMaster Masons.

    Finance Committee, composed of threeMaster Masons, each member shall servefor a term of threeyears.

    The first committee shall be appointedas follows. One to serve for three years,one to servefor two yearsandone to servefor one year. Thereafter one shall be ap-pointed eachyear for the prescribedthreeyear term.

    Sick Committee, composed of three ormore Master Masons.

    ReceptionCommittee, composedof threePastMasters.

    The duties at the Building Committeeshall be to look after the lodge propertyand recommendany necessaryrepairs oradditions.Thelodgeshall authorizeany andall repairs or additions the cost of whichexceeds $25.00; necessary minor repairsunder this amount may be taken care ofby -the Building Committee as they arise.

    The Finance Committee will investigatethe financia] conditions of the dodge andrecommendany expenditureoverandabove$25 00.

    The Sick Committee shall visit aJl sickanddistressedmembersandwith the con-sent of the Master and Secretary in anemergencyrender financial aid not to ex-

    - ceed $25.00The ReceptionCommittee shall meet all

    visiting brethren.ARTICLE XVI—A brother shall be auto-

    maticall.y re-instatedafter beingsuspendedfor non-paymentof dues by paying the in-debtedness,provided he hasnot been sus-pended for more than two years If sus-pendedfor more than two yearshe shallpetition the lodge for re-instatementandpay two years’ back dues and the currentyear’s dues.The petition shall be acceptedby the lodge, referred to a committee andballoted on the sameas any other petitibnfor membershipexceptthat a three-quartervote of majority presentshall elect him tomembership.

  • ARTICLE XVII—No lodge property shallbe sold or disposedof without written bids,after notice of such salehasbeenmade atthe previousmeeting.

    ARTICLE XVIII—Duties of the Investi-gating Committee shall be the same asthose statedin Section 112 of the Consti-tution

    ARTICLE XIX—Fees for degreesshall beas Eollows: $10.00shall accompanythepeti-tion, $10 00 shall be paid before taking theFellow Craft degree, and $10.00 plus anyspecial Grand Lodge assessmentsshall bepaid beforetaking theMasterMasondegree.

    ARTICLE XX—No duesshall be collectedfrom any memberwho is a minister or whohas attained 50 years membershipin thefraternity.

    ARTICLE XXI—Any Mason may beelected to honorary membership Regula-tion 198 shall apply.

    ARTICLE XXII—No brother shall bechosenMaster or Warden of the lodge un-less he-manifestsuchzeal for the fraternityas to induce the belief that he can andwillqualify himself to preside accordingto thelaws and usagesof Masonry. The Wardenshall be qualified to fill the Master’s chairin his absence.

    ARTICLE XXIII—Any MasterMasonmaypreside in the East when requestedto doso by the Masteror Wardenacting asMas-ter, the officer making the requestmustremain in the hall, provided the brotheris not a PAst Master.

    ARTICLE XXI V—The lodge shall presentto each Master, at the end of his term, asuitablePastMaster’s jewel or a like amountin cash, provided he has purchased thejewel of his choice.This amount shall notexceed15 dollars.

    ARTICLE XXV—The Treasurershall notbe charged any dues during his term ofoffice.

    ARTICLE XXVI—The lodgeshall presentto all MasterMasonsraisedafter January1,1948 a copy of the Kentucky Monitor.

    ARTICLE XXVII— The lodge may tem-porarily occupy a hall not its own for theconferring of any degreeor for the trans-acting of special business, providing themembershiphas five daysnotice. The char-ter must be present.

    ARTICLE XXVIII — The Standard Ma-sonic Code shall govern in all Masonictrials.

    ATECLE XXIX—The Master shall readOr causeto be readat leastone time a yearthe ancient chargesof Masonry.

    ARTICLE XXX — These By -Laws shall,upon the adoption of the lodge, make nulland void all preceding By-Laws or partsthereof.

    ARTICLE XXXI—The duties of the offi-cersof this lodge shall be as designatedinthe Constitution.In addition, the Secretaryshall be paid a salary of $8 00 per month;the Tiler a salaryof $6.00 per month.

    ARTICLE XXXII — These By-Laws maybe amendedaccording to Section ‘73 of theConstitution
