4 things not to miss:
• Sharing the journey with students on a ‘pedagogy of joint discovery’ (Barnett 2007)
• Focusing on the journey rather than end point (Gibbs 2011)
• Posing questions rather than proposing answers• New vistas of intellectual challenge and
stimulation.
Highlights
![Page 3: Barefoot Guide to Research Informed Teaching](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070603/5871f0401a28ab5c348b565b/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
You can begin your RIT journey from:
• Your own and students’ research interests• The curriculum• Real world projects and questions• Consultancy and industry links• Your discipline• Pedagogic research
Getting there
![Page 4: Barefoot Guide to Research Informed Teaching](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070603/5871f0401a28ab5c348b565b/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
If you find yourself in this dodgy location, take an RIT turn
![Page 5: Barefoot Guide to Research Informed Teaching](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070603/5871f0401a28ab5c348b565b/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
A few things may trip you up:
• Not knowing how to design an RIT curriculum• Students being oblivious to the direction of
travel• Students not wanting to stamp your RIT
passport• Quality not readily issuing a visa to travel to
unknown territory.
Visas and red tape
![Page 6: Barefoot Guide to Research Informed Teaching](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070603/5871f0401a28ab5c348b565b/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Insurance
Remember to take out in-house insurance:
• Solent are underwriters• SLTI will be your brokers, R&I your investors• Post-docs Virandi and Jamil will give research
and evaluation support• Less risky in large numbers – at Solent & in
wider community of RIT active universities, eg. UCLAN, UCL, Sheffield.
![Page 7: Barefoot Guide to Research Informed Teaching](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070603/5871f0401a28ab5c348b565b/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
You will need currency for travel to RIT:
• Enthusiasm and willingness to take a few risks• Time to spend with colleagues who have
pioneered RIT and the SLTI RIT team• Spare change to negotiate ideas through quality
regulations if necessary• Trading a bit of content and control for student
engagement in an inquiry process
Cost, money and banks

A TEF bail out?
Universities provide an environment for deeper and wider learning, allowing for the development of analytical and creative thinking, objective inquiry and primary research.

Maps and information
The main map is a bit outdated but looks like this:
