BARE NECESSITIES

Bare Necessities is a stunning 82’ custom built Oyster, designed to deliver a luxurious sailing experience. From first glance you will notice the stunning hull colour of metallic blue with metallic silver boot top and cover lines. Her size and uncluttered teak deck is perfect for entertaining. The large cockpit with two tables can comfortably seat guests for eating ‘al fresco’. The guest cockpit has four deck computer screens capable of displaying navigation information to guests. The guest area is over 3m long and has a clear central walkway aft, giving access to the helm positions and side decks. Unlike most 82s, Bare Necessities has a custom built archway above centre cockpit with integrated lights and custom carbon framed windscreen to protect the main companionway providing excellent shelter as well as sun protection. The stern design incorporates a bathing platform trimmed for easy access to the stern deck and swimming ladder. A custom made dinghy platform and carbon davit makes launching and recovering the dinghy extremely easy.

In many respects, Bare Necessities represents the most advanced Oyster built to date, the majority of her electronic equipment being typical of much larger vessels. Her powerful cutter rig with carbon Smart boom, top quality laminate sails with main being fully battened, hydraulic furlers all go to provide exceptional performance with minimum effort.

Below deck, her maple interior makes her very light and makes for a very open feel. The upper saloon offers excellent views with large deck saloon windows and has a 42” screen neatly flushed in. There is a four-sided wraparound settee surrounding a square, custom, swivel and expanding table which accommodates up to eight guests to dine together in comfort. The lower saloon has a large L-shaped settee with another folding table. This is a wonderful area to read, play games or watch movies on the 32in screen.

Bare Necessities provides spacious accommodation for six guests in three cabins, while separate accommodation for crew is provided forward. The master cabin has a spacious centre line queen berth. In addition, there are two identical guest cabins also aft with twin berths. All cabins throughout the yacht have a private en-suite head and shower. Every cabin has a computer screen providing an independent entertainment system, or through the network, can become part of the vessels navigation display. Additional aft berths are available in the form of a sofa berth and Pullman berth.

The yacht is currently operated and immaculately maintained, with equipment constantly upgraded by the same professional and fastidious skipper who co-supervised her build.

Bare Necessities is an ideal family charter yacht due to child friendly benefits such as metre-high guard rails, providing extra safety for children on board.

CREW

Joey Compton - Captain

Joey and Jenna met, fittingly, at the Newport Shipyard in the heart of America’s sailing mecca, one spring day right as Joey stepped onto the dock from a passage up from the Caribbean. Their dynamic as a team became quickly apparent and they’ve been working, sailing, and traveling together ever since. Joey & Jenna are joined by first mate Oli to provide top quality service. All three have a deep passion for sailing and entertaining and thrive off making sure guests have a memorable, one of a kind experience while on board.

Joey got his start in yachting over 10 years ago, tempted into sailing off the docks of a popular Caribbean destination, Antigua, where he was born and still calls home. With dual-citizenship and having spent most of his adolescence in his other home, New Zealand, Joey has that Kiwi-charm that always keeps those around him in good spirits. Since his first Atlantic crossing many years ago, he has logged over 65,000 sea miles and sailed in many of the most scenic ports of the Mediterranean, Caribbean and East Coast USA. Joey holds a RYA Yachtmaster Ocean ticket as well as a host of other yachting certificates. Joey’s love for the ocean centers around his passion for surfing and you can always catch him checking the wave forecast. His other major love is rugby and is secretly also quite talented in the galley.

Jenna Barnes - Chef

Jenna is a life long and passionate sailor having grown up on the shores of New England, USA. Growing up as part of an Italian-American family, Jenna has had a passion for cooking from a very young age. After graduating from University with a business degree, Jenna heard life on the ocean calling and she left a promising career in the sports marketing industry to pursue bluer pastures. A natural born and experienced hospitality specialist, she fell right in step with life as a chef/mate/stew aboard sailing yachts 5 years ago and has been successfully making guests feel spoilt from day 1.

Jenna has trained at the Walnut Grove Cookery School in France and Academia Italiana di Cucina Pandolfini in Italy with several other specialty training courses to note as well. She loves cooking healthy, fresh and creative food and is always keen to try something new!

Oli Hirstwood - Mate

Oli hails from Morecambe Bay on the north west coast of England. As an adolescent, he sailed in the Lake District in the north of England and the west coast of Scotland. His adventurous spirit took him to experience life down under as a young adult, where he spent the past 5 years sailing up and down the East Coast of Australia. Oli holds an RYA Yachtmaster Offshore ticket and his yachting career has been a healthy mix of cruising and racing, culminating in the most recent edition of the famous Sydney Hobart Race.

His warm and enthusiastic demeanor makes guests feel at ease whether hoisting sails or serving cocktails. Oli is an avid watersports enthusiast from surfing and kitesurfing to wakeboarding and diving. As a bonus, he’s very talented on the guitar, which he keeps on board and is willing to play for guests on request.
