Baragoola Week Ending 4th December 11 In attendance this week: many Visitors: Nil $140 raised this week, but no outgoings. Not a vast amount and not much to eat into our total we are trying to raise but every little bit helps. Don’t forget that all donations over $2 are tax deductible why not do what some of our donors have and set up an automatic payment once a week, fortnight or month ? We are still chasing our target of $63,200 and have already raised $36,037 so please keep those tax deductible donations rolling in! Even more important with our auditor’s bill (around $1500) due soon these sorts of things take a huge bite out of our available finances. This time last year we ran a series of very successful charity auctions on eBay raising several thousand dollars for the boat thanks to the generosity of our members. So, a year later we are going to do it again. Can you help with our fundraising efforts by donating items that you no longer need? We will take any item old furniture, knick knacks, electrical and consumer goods, old computer equipment (especially form the early to mid eighties), books, tapes & DVD’s – in fact anything you’ve got laying around causing clutter and can spare us. Contact [email protected] We are also urgently looking for more volunteers with some specific skills in particular welders and woodworkers, so if you know of anyone who can help out give them an invite. Note that the welding does not involve welding plates , just various areas around the vessel like bulwark footings and similar. We had one guy who volunteered to help out but seems to have been frightened off when someone told him that plates needed welding. On Sunday the 11th of December we’ll be at Bunnings Belrose running a sausage sizzle – good chance to drop by and meet some of the crew if you’re on the middle north and buy a sausage sanger to help us out! Special thanks to Mark and Janelle for organising this one and it should raise a goodly amount of money for us especially as it’ll be Christmas shopping time. This Saturday just gone was our volunteer Xmas party, thanks to those who pitched in and assisted with this please note that the association did not pay for this, so no money that belongs to the boat was used all the food was donated. We saw seventeen people on board for this one, so it was pretty

In attendance this week: many Visitors: Nil $140 raised this week, but no outgoings. Not a vast amount and not much to eat into our total we are

trying to raise but every little bit helps. Don’t forget that all donations over $2 are tax deductible – why

not do what some of our donors have and set up an automatic payment once a week, fortnight or

month ? We are still chasing our target of $63,200 and have already raised $36,037 so please keep those

tax deductible donations rolling in! Even more important with our auditor’s bill (around $1500) due soon

– these sorts of things take a huge bite out of our available finances.

This time last year we ran a series of very successful charity auctions on eBay raising several thousand

dollars for the boat thanks to the generosity of our members. So, a year later we are going to do it again.

Can you help with our fundraising efforts by donating items that you no longer need? We will take any

item – old furniture, knick knacks, electrical and consumer goods, old computer equipment (especially

form the early to mid eighties), books, tapes & DVD’s – in fact anything you’ve got laying around causing

clutter and can spare us. Contact [email protected]

We are also urgently looking for more volunteers with some specific skills – in particular welders and

woodworkers, so if you know of anyone who can help out give them an invite. Note that the welding

does not involve welding plates, just various areas around the vessel like bulwark footings and similar.

We had one guy who volunteered to help out but seems to have been frightened off when someone

told him that plates needed welding.

On Sunday the 11th of December we’ll be at Bunnings Belrose running a sausage sizzle – good chance to

drop by and meet some of the crew if you’re on the middle north and buy a sausage sanger to help us

out! Special thanks to Mark and Janelle for organising this one and it should raise a goodly amount of

money for us especially as it’ll be Christmas shopping time.

This Saturday just gone was our volunteer Xmas party, thanks to those who pitched in and assisted with

this – please note that the association did not pay for this, so no money that belongs to the boat was

used – all the food was donated. We saw seventeen people on board for this one, so it was pretty

successful. Apart from one tray of sausages left over nearly everything was eaten so Glen’s BBQ skills

weren’t too bad obviously!

Naturally enough some work was done both prior and after the event (fortunately not much). Mark with

a couple of assistants removed the cap from the aft indicator pointer – you may recall from last

weekend that this was pretty much a write-off. It’ll be used to create two new ones (one for the other

end as well). The assembly is now open to rain so it was wrapped up in plastic to protect both it and the

steering gear directly underneath.

The indicator arrow itself was taken off, I had suspected last week that this was brass and I was correct.

Although some of Baragoola’s larger brass items were stolen, much of the smaller pieces were ignored

and still exist in situ (including several portholes). It’s often these small pieces that actually set off

particular areas and right now we are stripping all of these off for restoration. At this point they won’t

go back on though – the thieves that took certain of our other items are still about so we won’t tempt

fate.

Some further work on the No. 2 English Electric diesel was continued with four or five of the guys

working on it as well.

Sunday started out reasonably and I took the opportunity of a sunny morning to start stripping the aft

deck and needle gunning it. Glen and Nick had previously spent an enormous amount of time doing this

by hand but unfortunately the rust just keeps coming through. Lifting some of the rust bubbles revealed

wet rust areas which is very, very bad. So we’ll need to go back and do this area properly and from

scratch...... A southerly blew in about 9am and the day went downhill rapidly so that spelt an end to any

further work. Coupled with a worsening flu I ended up quitting and spent most of the day sleeping – this

one is really seriously knocking me about.
