BAPTISM OF THE LORD JANUARY 12, 2020
JANUARY 12, 2020
ST. MARY MAGDALEN BRIGHTON, MI
This weekend we welcome Bishop Boyea at the 11:00 a.m. Liturgy who will install me as your
second Pastor. The installation really confirms what so many have you have and continue to
express in your welcome of me and your encouragement of my ministry with and among you. I am
very grateful to each of you for your commendations and challenges. Together let us move forward
with the Lord!
Sign Ups Continue
I have placed sign up sheets for this month in the gathering space. I appreciate meeting with
you. Please also encourage anyone you know who might be looking for a Church or to reconnect
with the Church to come meet me. I am glad to meet with anyone for any reason, even if they are
not parishioners.
Blessings on your week!
SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Isaiah 49:3,5-6 The book of Isaiah in four
different places speaks of a mysterious servant
of God. This servant is sent to do great and
marvelous things that touch the entire world.
Christians have traditionally thought of Jesus
as the fulfillment of these passages.
1Corinthians 1:1-3 For the next several
Sundays our second reading will be taken from
the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians.
Today’s reading presents the opening words of
that letter and is another example of the
salutation used in classical letter writing: Paul
identifies himself, acknowledges the community
to whom he is writing, and extends warm
personal greetings.
John 1:29-34 Christian communities were
worshipping before the Gospels were written
down in the form we know. So when, in this
reading is heard the familiar liturgical text –
recognize that this was likely included in the
Gospel because it was already part of the
liturgy where John worshipped.
Reflect: If you were going to tell someone the
most important thing you know about Jesus,
what would you say?

CHARITY & JUSTICE
THANK YOU! Livingston County Catholic Charities would like to THANK the St. Mary Magdalen parishioners for your tremendous generosity of gift cards and funding for paper products for our annual Christmas Blessing project! Each delivery to local homebound and low income senior citizens included donated food items, cleaning supplies, and hygiene items along with a special Christmas gift and the love of Christ. These special care packages bring relief to seniors who struggle to meet their basic needs on a limited fixed income – many of whom live at or below 150% of the national poverty level. The winter months tend to provide extra stress with increased utility bills. Your shared generosity was a blessing to 161 seniors. We received many calls the afternoon after delivery took place. Below are a few:
“Thank you for everything, all was so nice! Tell everyone involved thank you so much.” “Thank you for all you do for me. I wish I could do something for you.” “I thank the Lord for the people who do this for us! Sometimes this is all the Christmas I get.”
This project would not take place without the enormous generosity of all of you - and for that we THANK each one of you for bringing love and joy to so many! Additionally, thank you to all who donated to our annual Loaves & Fish Appeal! You are providing transformational and life-saving services right here in our county! Wishing you all a New Year filled with many blessings! The Board & Co-workers at Livingston County Catholic Charities

Volunteer needed!
We need your time and your expertise! Ideally, we would like to have one or two volunteers to help create our weekly bulletin using our Microsoft Office Publisher bulletin template.
You can choose the day and time that works best for you to come in to the office to work on the bulletin. The time commitment would likely be 6-8 hours per week. We are looking for someone who is comfortable using or learning Publisher and is detail oriented; creativity is a plus!
Please contact Sandi Phillips or Gayle Zawisa in the office, 810-229-8624, if you are interested or let Fr. Shaun know!
